We all know what a "back seat driver" is, but has any one ever fished with a"back seat boater". Ok the bite was a little slow but is it necessary every five minutes "maybe we should be over there"..."we should be a little closer"..."I cant reach shore"..."the boat moves every time I cast" AHHHHHH SHUT UP already.  >    Ok I just needed to vent a little.  So does this ever happen to you guys.

Yeah, that sucks if your on fish but if your bite is slow maybe try and take their advice.

For our club events, the rule is that the non-boater has controll over the water for half or the fishing day and is supposed to be able to call the location.  This doesn't always work, but it is the rule.

Well you can say I 'm the back seat boater cuz I 'm the one that handles the boat, the TM, the electronics from the back of the tub  ,  but I know what you mean so I ask my compadre where he wants to go ( but it doesn 't mean that we don 't make "technical" stops to make some casts to spots I consider productive before we arrive to our destination.

I 've back seated many times with my friend Pedro and he can be a tough customer, every five minutes "maybe we should be over there"..."we should be a little closer"...", I 've heard those arguments so many times from him........ IDONTGIVEADAMNOL solves that problem, two pills before a trip with Pedro and I 'm ready.

Offer to drop that person off over there so they can do their thing, and of course also offer to come back to get him/her later. Fortunately, I never have that problem. If something is suggested I simply remind them that I am the guide.

Fishing with different people can accelerate the learning process and make us all around better fisherman. That alone is reason enough to fish with all the people we can. Every now and then someone might grate our nerves a little bit but rest assured that it happens to everyone at all levels of the sport. It's really frustrating when the bite is slow.

I think it's just a necessary evil that must be endured unless we choose to fish alone. I enjoy going alone but I wouldn't want to all the time.

I don't get to fish out of a boat very often at all. If someone is allowing me to accompany them on a fishing trip in their boat, I pretty much just shut up and fish, be as quite as possible, and adhere to any and all rules they have for their boat. I'll let them do whatever they wanna do. Their boat, their rules.

the  rider respects those rules and that is final.

Also as stated in most clubs the  rider has say for 1/2 the tourney where to fish

either work that out before launch or tell the rider what part of the tourney they have the timeframe to call out locations.

these little tips before any tourney will save  aggravation on the water by both parties.

I have fished as a rider  for about 5 years,  and I do the above every tourney.

Remember that boat may not be the queen mary but it is someones boat and the rider has to respect that at all times.

**(also go over about netting fish, how you are going to let the rider know you are moving so they can gear down and put the life vest on if scent is allowed max poles you will allow, which livewell is who's etc etc etc..)

Iam always a back seat boater. I always out fish my buddy when we fish. But I don't tell him that we need to go there and do this. But once and a while when iam fishing a jig or some thing slow I ask him to slow down the boat.

A back seat boater is what I refer to as a 1st mate ( the guy that does all the work) I am considered the captain of my boat and am in charge of navigation ,fishing areas and general order on the boat . (These are Navy rules) Once when I hit a small sand bar and bottomed out at lake Falcon I ordered my 1st mate (my Dad ,an ex Navy man) over the side to free the boat . He didnt't quite get it until I explained it to him and he did as I said and got in the water (Ankle deep) and got the boat free.If anyone gives me any lip service when on MY boat I explain the chain of command.

I understand the whole Navy lingo, and realize that it's supposed to be rugged and "salty" but there's just something wrong with calling another guy your mate. That being said, I prefer "swabby"- as in- "we've run aground, jump out and free the boat, swabby"

Yea,I've had a few.Guess that's why I prefer to fish alone.I've had some good friends that have been fishing about a minute,and when we fished together it was a nonstop lesson (that they'd probably read about in Bassmaster mag).I don't think I'm the greatest or know it all,but I have been bassin' for 33 years and have picked up a thing or two.Can't stand being coached from the backseat!!!
