Has the price of gas altered anyone's fishing plans? Either how far you tow, how often or how far you run on the water?

My best lake is around 40mi's so I definately think twice about just running out there.

It is an investment in fun and mental health.

Gas prices are down to $2.59 in Richmond and are expected to drop to $2.50 in a few weeks.

So don't let gasoline prices ruin a good day.

Gasoline is still cheaper than bottled water.

I would not say that the prices changed my present plans...

I was a bit worried when they got to $3.50...

It has changed my FUTURE plans. Next year we will likely be buying a boat and I will not be buying something with a real big motor.

Absolutely it has.  I went from wanting a large bass boat, to getting a nice small kayak.  Its not only the gas prices, but the whole petrol-economies that go along with a traditional motorized boat.  The more I thought about it, I realized that I didn't want to be putting more junk in the water, in terms of exaust etc.  In my kayak I catch more fish in my kayak, get some good excercise, and can go anywhere in it.

The prices haven't made me change where I fish, but I have changed the way I drive there.

As for boat gas, I may run a few miles to get where I'm going to fish, but once I'm there......I FISH!!!  I don't run all over the place.  I get quite a few trips out of one tank of boat gas.

Work has changed my fishing more than anything else, but if I wasn't working as much gas would be a factor.

I normally tow 135 miles round trip, but will be going to a smaller lake (140 acres instead of 55,600) more often due to time limitations. When the gas prices were really high I went there a few times too.

I'm not going to let the price of gas keep me from fishing but I have backed off on the amount of running around the lakes I fish. It takes about a 1/2 tank of gas to get to the fishing and back and I usually can get 2 trips from a tank of gas for my boat.

Gas prices in this area of N.C. are down to $2.65 a gallon so things are getting better.

Didn't change how far I tow ... or how far I run. I don't run WOT as aften as I used to ... we can save a lot of fuel by running 4500 RPM instead of 5800 or 6000.

Heck ... I just made a 25+ mile run this morning just to try to meet up with a friend on the water ... and the friend wouldn't even motor over and say Hi !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm still getting out 4-5 times per week. My 250 Merc. isn't  too bad on gas, but it wouldn't matter because my season is too short. As long as my spine will allow, I'm going fishing.

When I'm just checking around, I'll usually trailor to the closest ramp where I wanna try that day.. I fish a few lakes 50,000+ acres... so I try to trailor to where I want to go. But come tournament time, I go.

I'm the same way.  Living in a city like St. Louis without good, big water nearby doesn't help.  LOZ is about 165 miles from my house, when you factor in gas at $3 for the truck + boat gas I can't afford to just run down there like I used to.

Yep.  If the price was around $1.50 a gallon, I'd be making the 200 mile round-trip to Cherokee or Douglas at least twice a week.  Now I only go twice a month or so.

I did much much more driving when gas was cheaper.

I haven't been to erie or st clair's yet...has alot to do with the gas prices.Starting to look better though...lake erie trip is planned next weekend if i don't have to work.

Having a small bass boat helps this situation for me. Yes the prices have changed my fishing for me. I dont travel as long to get on the water as I used too. If its not within an hour of my driveway odds are Im not going to fish it. I live in a town that has 2 great bodies of water in it. So Im not missing much...

The price of gas hasn't changed where I drive to, how much I run on the water or how much I fish.  Of course I have a 15.5' boat with a 70HP outboard.  I can go pretty far on a tank full of gas.  It has affected my future boat purchase.  My next boat will be 18.5' with a 150 HP E-tec or Optomax.  The direct injection outboards get much better gas mileage and I think I can live with 50-60MPH.

What have gas prices done to my fishing...nothing changed ther, but I now survive on PB&J sandwiches and Ramen noodles, and Oh yeah no more shopping sprees for the wife ;D
