Did anyone hear when he said that he used Catch and Release to save that fish that was bleeding? That's awesome. I've said it a bunch of times. C&R is the real deal.

The man is as Ole School as it gets a true legend of our sport. I've sat and while listened while Paul and Guy Eaker talks about strange things that happened while fishing this will be one for the ages.

I really enjoyed that - what a very special day for Paul and he sure earned it !

Just wanted to echo what a good guy Paul is. I had a chance to sit down and interview him at the Classic this year, and he's really a class guy and yes, totally old-school.

Welcome aboard!

Thanks! Good to be here.

A little background about myself (not to hijack this thread)

I'm a freelance filmmaker based in Austin, Texas, and one of my current gigs is to follow Elite Pro Jason Quinn around all season long and create a "reality" series for the web.

Let's just say that I've gotten to meet a lot of the guys out here, and for the most part, they're all quality.

Cheers!

those were some big fish....I dont understand tournaments at all though, so can someone explain the 129-00 "scoreboard" thing?

and also, why was he putting his rod IN the water on his retrieves (not when he was hooked into a fish)?

can you tell I am new to this?! ;D

The scoreboard total was for his cumlative weight four the four days (best 5 fish each day). he was chasing the all-time BASS tournamaent weight record, previously set by Steve Kennedy in '07 on Clear Lake in CA. Elias beat the record.

He is known for deep structure cranking, and he became famous for his "kneel and reel" cranking tecnique. He kneels down and puts the rod in the water while reeling to get the bait to its' absolute max depth. The rod angle and extra foot or so from holding it down like that gets the bit deeper.

Hope this works for you.

Paul Elias is one of our sports legends, a true sportsman and deserves the win and record at Falcon. Paul credited Catch & Release and adding ice for saving his 8 lb bass the final day that helped him win and set the record.

For those of you who have never caught a big bass and wondered if they jump or fight hard...watch and enjoy the action. For those skeptics who believe bass don't school or group up on one isolated spot, listen carefully just how small the area was Pual caught all his bass over a 4 day period. Thank you Paul and god bless.

Thanks for the link WRB..... For those who want to watch it, just click on the picture.

Has anyone gotten this to play on a mac? I have the windows media player but I get an error.

Incredible video!  Watch it.

Did anyone else notice how while fighting the fish he was constantly switching hands so he could release the spool and give line and then back to reel. Makes me feel that much better about fishing left handed and I never have to switch hands at all and am that much better prepared to set the hook and reel on those fish that hit the instant the lure hits the water.

Oh yeah that was incredible.
