My roomate and I have accumulated enough in our "rainy-day" fund to go on a 3 to 4 day bass fishing trip somewhere either in the US or Mexico.  I have searched all over the WWW and called many places and it seems the biggest LMB hogs are in Mexico, i.e. Lake Guerrero and such.  For safety (and cost cutting) reasons, I'd much rather saty in US.  Anyone have an endorsement of somewhere in particular with great topwater in Jan-Feb time range?  Basically, if you could pick one destination LMB guided fishing trip, where would it be?

Why fish Mexico when you have Lake Falcon  

Not sure, but if I could fish any lake in the US on a guided tour, I would fish Amistad.  That would give you both your wants... half in mexico half in the US.  Stay on whichever side of the border you think is safest.  Though I have been to Mexico several times and never had issues with safety, my only reservation is driving my vehicle across the border with insurance issues and such.

I do not like large bodies of water. I want to fish a few of the Natural Lakes of Minnesota ( not so exotic) and if I do I will try to have at least one day with a guide.

Mexico for sure man!!

I'd say go to Lake Fork. Never been, but it's a spectacular lake.

My choice would be Lake Falcon. Or Lake Fork

Can't go wrong with Lake Guntersville. The weather is hit or miss that time of year in N. Alabama so top water might not be your best choice. But if you simply want to save money, stay in the south east and catch a boat load of 4+ pounders then G'ville is worth looking into.

Google "dottie the bass" then go to that lake. She was 25 pounds and was going to break the world record put was foul hooked. The anglers released the fish and shortly after was found belly up. Its in So. Cal.

Cali is overrated... i'd go somewhere else.  Especially in Jan-Feb, it's a tough bite over here.  That isn't a "numbers" time of year, yet alone a topwater bite lol.

From what I've read I would have to say Falcon, the size and numbers potential of Mexican lakes without the hassle of leaving the country.

I've got one that's right down the road from you. It's located in North Carolina. I just so happen to be a guide there. It's not a monster fish lake but the average weight come February of next year will be over five pounds. Yep, that's the average weight. The biggest will be over 7lbs. It is a World Class Resort with a private cabin on the most beautiful private 120 acre lake I have ever been on. You will be treated right. It is managed by the best Fisheries Biologist in the country. On a bad day you can expect to catch 20 fish and on a good day the sky is the limit. Early last March I caught 60 in one day on top-water. I could go on about it forever but I'll just post some pics and leave it at that. www.kingfishersociety.com

Varner isn't what it was a few years ago. They put in to many hybrids that have eaten all the shad and then they stocked grass carp that changed the bite.

White Oak Plantation in Tuskegee AL is the best I've been to.

Amistad, Falcon, Toledo Bend or Stick Marsh/Farm 13.

St.Johns and rodman, which of course runs in to stick marsh. has as many 5- 11 pound fish pulled out every year as any place in the country. Also has the largest bass tourny east of the Mississippi, and the Bass capital of the world in palatka.

bass lakes get hot and cold, right now I think Amistad is pretty hot for numbers and size.
