Scents

Featured Replies

I used a paste that Berkley made, just their basic one but it was incredibly messy/gobby. I switched to Yum spray in crawfish. I like scent, but figure it works more for covering up the human smell I put on the bait tying it on or whatever as opposed to specifically attracting fish. The spray, whatever brand it is, I think is good as it is way less messy/easy to apply. I use it b/c I like to pretend I am a pro haha.

I use a scent as an "edge". It may/may not make a difference, but it's a no-brainer to not take a chance and not use one! hmmm....did I say that right?  ;D

In other words....it can't hurt.

Anyway, I like Megastrike paste. Seems to me to last longer than the water soluble sprays. But I could be wrong!

JJ's Magic for jig trailers, MegaStrike for

everything else. I only use JJ's at home

and keep the trailers in tightly sealed bags.

MegaStike is effective, economical,very "user

friendly" and can be used anywhere without

making a mess. The other important features

are lubrication and longevity. One application

is all you need.

I do not believe either product is truly an

"attractant", but I am convinced that fish

hold longer. When JJ's Magic or MegaStrike

is applied to "soft", soft plastics, hook-up

ratios are noticeably improved. I also use

MegaStrike on some hard baits.

Even on the video that was the guy from Strike King that I was watching last night, he said he never could tell if the fish actually held on longer or not. So, I'm not sold on that idea.

I use JJ's magic so I can dye it different colors, MegaStrike for everything else.

i use spike it for my finesse worms are jig trailers mosy of the time. it is a garlic sence but it dies what ever part in dip it in that color but i use yellow so it is a garlic sence.

To messy in my opinion and once they are dipped in water the scent falls off.  I would just buy the soft bait that is already dipped in scent, I prefer Berkley Powerbait.  I tried Berkley's new stuff Gulp, so far haven't caught much on it.  Powerbait still leads in my book as the best scented lure.

I guess that only water soluble scents can work.

According to Keith A. Jones, the Dr who wrote 'Knowing Bass'.

It made sense, but can't remember exactly why other than oil based products don't mix with other chemical contents in water, and therefore they aren't filtered through chemoreceptors in bass.

I am a big fan of Smelly Jelly. I use the Bass Feast scent on all jigs and plastics. I also use Bang from time to time but I like the jelly better because it doesn't get all over your boat like the spray does. I am not sure that it helps but I seem to get alot more bites when I started using it. I wouldn't know now though because I won't fish a jig without it.

I don't like using scent spray, soon as you dip it in water it just tends to come off.  Unless you dip it in a cup for awhile

This is coming from some of the top authorities of bass fishing that I have talked with . YES USE SCENT . The brand you buy is all good as long as its water soluble. It must come off the bait and into the water. So it should be applied often. In cold weather i believe Scent is a MUST.! I also marinate my rubber baits in a zip lock.
