Hey everyone. So I am a beginner in fishing only fished a handful of times. I want to put new line on my spinner reel. I know there are a few different types of lines but don't know which one to put. I am going to be primarily fishing bass and to be honest I only have very basic knowledge on what lures to use. What type of line and what pound tested should I use. Thanks everyone!

get 10 pound test and learn to tie a palomar knot.cut with fiskars kids scissors.on a spinning rod this will be the most trouble free line.close the bail manually and lift th rod tip to get the slack out before reeling in.this will stop spinning reel birds nests.

Okay so I assume when u say 10lb test that u mean mono.... but I can use this type of line with softplastics, spinnerbait, crankbaits, jigs, pretty much anything right?

No he's talking about braid. As I said earlier , read the fishing articles.

As said read the articals. For a beginner and us geezers mono is a pretty good line even though I don't use it as much as before. The stretch can be a plus with some baits, momo is not as visable as braid and it is realatively cheap. It was the line of choice for many years.

Okay I read some of the article and its starting to make a little more sense then it did. If I was to use mono line on my regular Shakespeare Ugly Stick spin cast combo can I use any lure I want on it? Aren't there certain lures you use on like mono and certain ones you use on braided or is that just the difference between spin cast and bait cast. Basically do you use soft plastics, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, all the types on certain lines or is it the difference between the types of reels. Sorry but even after reading the articles it leaves me a little confused.

Monocarbon is usually for top water lures, since it floats well. Then you have flurocarbon, which is used for crankbaits, spinners, and lures which are underwater since the line is practically invisible. Braided line is used when your fishing really nasty thick water, like heavy vegetation type of stuff. Now I favor bait cast reels, but for spinning reels you have to have low lb line or high memory line, because if you have thick line it will come off of the spool. Go with Spyderwire (walmart and other retailers have it), in my eyes if you want spinning reel line go with them.

it's braid and you can use it with anything.mono will give you coiling issues where braid won't.

Rule #1 for a beginner, there are no rules. Learn on your own experiences, you may find that's the best teacher of all. For myself I only use spinning gear with braided line and any lure of my choosing. Don't let yourself get confused, there is so much contradictory info out there. Just go fishing, in short order you'll discover what kind of rods, reels, line, etc, suits you, have fun don't make fishing work. Bass fishing is the perfect venue to get yourself interested in fishing, as bass are plentiful, relatively easy to catch, and can be caught on virtually any kind of equipment, live or artificial baits.

are you sure it is a spin cast reel? if so do not use braid, I have seen many spincast reels spooled with braid break, there is no give in braid and the plastic in most spincast reels just wont hold up. if it is a spinning reel then I would suggest braid
