Ive had my eye on the three of these and looking to make up a super lightweight baitcast combo. Which would you guys prefer? Im interested in picking one up for use with most lures/techniques. What size/weight would be good?

Go with the 7' M Veritas... It is super light and I would rate it between a M and MH..

I haven't used the Veritas. But I would rate the carrot stick above the skeet reese in action, sensitivity, and weight. So, if I was making the decision it would be between the Veritas and Carrot Sticks. I have a 6'9", 7', and 7'3" carrot stick and my buddy does have a Veritas. He usually uses one of my CS over it for bottom contact baits, but not for any other techniques. Several pros use the Veritas so it can't be a bad choice. But, several also use skeets line, I've had 3 and sold 3 after using them. They may not be bad, but they do not fit me. Hope this helps you a little bit.

let me tell you skeet reese rods suck big time. they are whippy and under rated. not worth $90 imho

Hold out for the new Compres. If you cant wait definetly thr Veritas.

I am not a fan of the Skeet Reese or the Carrot Stix, I've used my friends Veritas a few times and it's a good rod. I would also take a look at the BPS Extreme and the Falcon BuCoo.

I hate to say it but i'd get a Carot Stick out of the rods you mentioned. However if you're open to suggestions I'd look at the Falcon Bucoo line. Definately dabble into Powell for a little extra bones.

But if you can wait and like EVA foam, the Compre will be good also.

I absolutely love the BPS Extreme rods. I use the 6'6" MH with a 6.2:1 Shimano Chromica. I just got a Falcon BuCoo today from TW and it feels nice in my hand and can't wait to try it out.

For a $100 there is some nice choices out there near that but I would clearance shop at stores. I got a Carrotstix 7'6 H-F for $80 originally $149. It's my frog rod but it's not very comfortable to me. Crazy part I went in for the Veritas but didn't have what I wanted.

Another good option is the old crucial that is closing out for $70 on West Marine

My brother has the Veritas and it spends more time in the truck than on the water. I would also look at Cabelas as they have the Prodigy for $60 and it's normally $100, the XML for $100 and it's normally $140 and the XMLTi for $140 and it's normally $200.

I'm picking up a XMLTi spinning model to pair with the new Quantum Smoke spinning reel when they come out later on this year.

If you want a very light combo, I recommend the Quantum Smoke. Lightest rod I have ever had!!!

I agree with quantumboy. The smoke is lighter than a popcorn fart and one of my favorite rods. I've got the 6'6" medium fast which I use for senkos and love it. Extremely sensitive and I'm a huge fan of microguides. If ur looking for a do it all I'd probably step up the medium heavy in your desired length though as the medium wouldn't handle the heavy stuff as well.

I have one of the Skeet Reese crankbait rods, don't like it nearly as much as I thought I would. I just can't seem to feel what my bait is doing nearly as much I used to be able to when I had a St. Croix Premier Pro Glass. Also had one of the original Carrot Sticks, it broke for no apparent reason and that seems to be a common problem with them but I've heard they have that fixed. I haven't fished one of the Abu rods but they look nice and are really light and I wouldn't mind fishing one. If I was going to go with one of your original 3 rods I'd go with the Abu, but I think you can get a better quality rod if you keep your eyes open for a used one.

Of the three, I would say the Veritas.

The Skeet Reese rods are very whippy. I don't have any experience with the Carrot Stix.

I love my Veritas, by far my favorite rod in my arsenal. Very light, and sensitive!

I've owned and fished with all three.

Best feeling/fishing rod is the Carrot Stick Wild. Problem which was a deal breaker for me was the hook hanger location. If you have big hands or fish trebles it hurts... If you are ok with snipping it off and getting a Fuji hanger then go for it.

Veritas are light but fragile and I didn't find it as sensitive as the Wild.

Skeet rods have QC issues. EVERY one at my DSG has bent blanks, bent guides, offset guides or tips. Not very sensitive at all.

$100+/- is your budget?

Lamiglas Excel, Shimano Compre or close out Crucials (at american legacy fishing company). WAAAAAAAAAAY better rods.

Veritas... you'll love it.

im going to return a skeet reese senko toad rod soon, i caught my first fish with it and the rod guide is broken, nut i also have a jig/worm rod and i love it, its not whippy at all.

I agree, I thought the jig/worm and the senko/toad were both not whippy rods. In fact, i thought they were extemely stiff and quite heavy. The magnum crank was very whippy IMO. I still use the jig/worm, but I use it for c-rigging because I didn't think it had enough sensitivity and was too heavy for most of my jig fishing.
