Hey guys, I have yet to fish the Avid series and I wondering whether they are under or over powered. I am looking to replace my spinnerbait/swimjig setup and found a good deal on the AC7OHF model. Let me know if you have experience with this rod and if it would be a good fit!

It sort of depends on what you have been fishing before, but I think the Avids are somewhat overpowered compared to "average".

I have the AVC7MHF and it feels like a Heavy rod, not Medium Heavy.

Specific models vary, but as a general rule, Avids

and Legend Elite are one class heavier. My suggestion

is Medium Power for most applications. I have

one EC70MHF which is definitely Heavy Action

regardless of the St. Croix rating.

All I use are St Croix's, to me, Avids are the most overpowered rods compaired to there rating that is in there line up. I have 2 7' MH/Fast rods right now, a Leg. Tour. and an Avid, the LT is slightly more powerfull than most other brands MH's, but to me, still falls in a MH range. The Avid on the other hand, is way more powerfull than the LT, I use it as a frog/jig rod. A H power Avid is going to be a broom stick, you might want to just go with the MH, or find a used LT H "frog & slop" if your set on a H powered rod. I like Mojo's just fine too, but the 7' H Mojo is also a broom stick. I have never liked any of St Croix's 7' H powered rods except the Leg. Tournament.

You want the MH power. An M power would even suffice.

No heavy for spinnerbaits! Sorry its not what you want to hear, but if you need a good pool stick jig rod, this one would work!

Thanks again for the advice. Like I said I have never used the avid series, and a lot of my H rod would work for a spinnerbait rod, so thanks for clearing that up!

I'll disagree and say that the Avid 7' Heavy is a superb spinnerbait rod; albeit I really don't fish anything under 3/4 ounce spinnerbaits. If you're fishing 1/2 ounce and heavier baits in heavy grass and vegetation, the heavy is a great rod for it. It doubles as a SUPERB spoon rod for 4-3/4 inch and 5-1/2 inch flutter spoons as well as for 5/8 and 3/4 ounce Shorties.

I'd agree that the Avids are heavier powered than what they are rated but a 7' H would work just fine for swimjigs. Personally wouldn't use it for spinnerbaits unless you are fishing big baits like Hooligan said. Just means you might have to get a second Avid

Most of the swim jigs I've ever used were no more than 1/2 oz. more like 3/8 or 5/16. I'll toss those on a medium power rod. Spinnerbaits are usually 1/2 oz. medium or MH works well for me. I guess it depends on what weight you prefer.
