Any advice or opinions on good line for cranking with a carbonlite reel 5.4-1 and what's a good rod?

I crank with braid. All types of cranking. Deep cranking I use 20lb, gets the baits to there max depth, you can feel everything, for ripping lipless cranks out of weeds or squarebilling heavy cover I use 30lb, thats WWE style fishing for me, I want that fish out of that grass and cover, and my baits all have heavy gauge wire treble hooks. The rod has more to do with keeping fish pegged than the line, I use a moderate action cranking rod for the deep baits, and fast action rods with traps and squarebills.

i've got 14# vanish on my new 5:1 carbonlite. i had planned on putting 12# vicious elite on there, but didn't want to have to order it. my local wal-mart carries the vanish, so i just grabbed it. the diameter of it is the same as the 12# elite

i tried crankin with braid last year. i only tried it with a squarebill but it just about rattled every tooth in my head loose. and that was with an old daiwa glass rod!

I use #8 and #10 Yozuri on a Calcutta 50 TEGT and 7.5' Loomis med/hvy crankbait rod.

If I had to have an all around line then I would go with 14lb Fluoro or Copoly.

For all diving crankbaits I use 10lb P-line 100% fluorocarbon which is the only time I really use fluorocarbon other than finesse baits. If you don't like fluoro, try the 10lb P-Line CX Premium which is a copoly that I use for 50% of my fishing applications ( i use other lb test for other applications but for cranking I like to stick to 10lb because thats what is used to rate diving depth at the bait factories). For lipless crankbaits I use 50lb Power Pro braid exclusively. As for a rod a 7' MH St.Croix Avid with a moderate action will cover all crankbait applications however for getting baits down in that 15-20ft range its best done with a longer rod such as a 7'10" Heavy/Mod action St.Croix Legend Tournament to get more distance. If those rods are out of your price range you can get a 7' MH St. Croix Mojo with a moderate action or a 7'8" St. Croix Mojo Glass for under $120. As long as you choose a rod with a moderate action and atleast 7 feet you can't go wrong.

I use that same 7'10" LTB "magnum cranker" and agree, it's the finest deep diving rod I have owned. I often have to reign in my casts with it. That long rod with the long casting ability, combined with the small diameter braid insures I get the baits down where I want them.

40 lb power pro all the way, moss green, i use the shimano compre medium heavy crank rod and love it

I just spooled mine up with 12# Yo-Zuri

Are leaders a good idea having power pro as my main line are there advantages or disadvantages?

Right now I'm using 10# Trilene Flouro.

Daiwa steez 12# fluorocarbon last year but this year probably yozuri or pline 100% fluorocarbon in 12#.

I use 10lb Sufix Elite on a G-Loomis crankbait rod.
