I have a new G Loomis CBR864DF cranking rod and need to get a reel for it. I have been looking at the Daiwa Crazy Cranker but would appreciate input from y'all. It has to be a left handed reel, several crankin reels out there but not all companies make left handed versions.

Get a Calcutta or maybe one those Curado 3oo E's.

Curado 201E5 is a good low priced alternative.

I use a Curado 201DPV. I got it off the flea market here, it was like new and I think I paid $90.

Tackletour did a cranking reel shootout I think. Other than the Crazy Cranker and the Curado 200E5, they had the Revo Winch and a Quantum.

The Revo Winch comes in a lefty, and I believe the newest Chronarch has a lefty low speed version too.

Chronarch 6.5 or 5.5 is a fine crank reel, Crazy Cranker is a fine otpion, as well. That said I really like the CTE201 as Kent suggested. It balances out that stick beautifully.

I loved the Crazy Cranker but as time went on I prefer a 6.3ish gear ratio for my crankbait needs. I don't deep crank much and like that I can pull in line a little more quickly If needed.

If you can swing it, I'd go with one of Shimano's round DC reels. Either the Calcutta 201DC, or the Conquest 101DC.

My Curado 200E5 is a beast. Its my favorite reel of my Shimano lineup by far. I'm sure the Zillion Crazy Cranker is awesome too. Just depends on how much you want to spend and whether you have any brand loyalties/preferences.

Tough to go wrong with a Daiwa or a Shimano though.

I have a 100b that I use for cranking and it works good. It is almost effortless to crank which helps out when you are cranking all day. Mine is on a 7'8" MH/M St Croix Mojo "Big Cranker" which I use to throw deep cranks and big lipless cranks.

Nevermind. Called the guy I was thinking of, they are all E7s. Too fast for cranking for this guy, well, that and I'm right handed.

Tackle Tour did a cranking reel shootout, put four reels through the paces. The final scoring, Quantum 4th, Diawa 3rd, Winch 2nd, and Shimano 1st. No lefties in the Curado though.

Just to add, before I bought my Curado 201DPV, I deep cranked with my Citica 201D, which is a 6.2:1 reel, with Shimano's HEG it pulled big deep divers like SK 6xd's pretty easy, not as easy as the CU201DPV, but it didn't feel like I was dragging a dead body through the water, I can not say that about any 6.x:1 reels I have had in any other brand.

I just got a Revo Winch on a clearance sale price (the store didn't want it anymore, good for me b/c I wanted it!)

I added a bit of lubrication to the thumb bar and it is loosening up a bit. But that is the ONLY thing I could imagine to complain about. The feel and retrieve is otherwise incomparable to a lot of other reels (in a good way)

I'm normally a shimano guy but this was a top notch reel I couldn't turn down. I am glad I got it, it seems to be the right tool for the job!
