Jig Trailer If Craws Are Scarce?

Featured Replies

Hey all, I plan to try more bass fishing with jigs this year and plan on picking up some typical dark 3/8 oz. jigs with skirts but am having trouble choosing a trailer. I am in northern Mass. and there aren't too many craws in the local ponds where I fish. What is a good alternative to a craw trailer? Does it matter or will a craw work? Thanks in advance for the help

i like big single tail grubs, great swimming action

X2 on the twin tail grub.

Great! thanks for the info! I have a bag of black craws and I'll PU some grubs and give 'em a try.

Try a small plastic swimbait as a trailer. You don't necessarily HAVE to swim it.

Just because the waters you fish don't have a certain forage naturally, doesn't mean you can't throw it and be successful. The other day,the first day on the water this year,I was throwing a Rapala DT 6 in a Shad pattern and boated 2 fish that went about 2# each, one dink and lost another that might have gone 2# at the boat. I'm telling you this because there isn't any kind of bait fish forage in this lake at all.

Bottom line,as I have learned here at Bassresource.com is,Bass are opportunistic predators. If they see something that they perceive as food, they're likely to eat it. Bass eat everything from Fish, frogs, crawfish, even mice, baby ducks and birds. Bass have even been known to be cannabalistic, they eat each other.

x2 amazing action. Only craws I throw!

x3 on the rage craws. I use paca chunks also, but the action on the rage craws is awesome!

Craws will work anywhere and they may be very good in a place where the fish don't see them very much. Grubs and twin tail grubs are also good but if I was fishing an area or a body of water that didn't have many craws that would be the first thing I would use simply because it is a profile the fish instintively know and the lack of them in the water may cause them to hit even more since it is something they don't see.

I would still fish a craw trailer. Fish will still bite the jig.

Like others have said, fish the craw trailer. For me, i use paca chunks 90% of the time and not only do they catch fish like crazy, but are super cheap!

Rage Craw all the way. Best thing to hit the jig since the weed guard.
