  1. hm.. I wonder who told me to cut 12" off from hte line. well I told someone that, so hopefully hes reading this. I have always left 12" or so of line on the hook.
  2. get stronger line. lol
  3. its only a stereotype that women dont like fishing. as some of them might not like it. there are the same that will find they enjoy it.
  4. I dont seem to have any problems with getting caught, I cast it just to the edge of the hydrilla where it hits the hydrilla, but mostly hits the water. but I use a baitcaster and reel it as soon as it hits. so I dont let it sink and get all into the hydrilla.
  5. I fish all day if I can.
  6. I use palomar knots on everything. never have problems with knots. unless I'm in a hurry and seem to forget to twist it enough.
  7. lol... hahah... sorry, I just had a funny mental picture. and dont take that personally. I do the same thing!
  8. definitely try to fish deep between two points. try trolling them maybe if they're far away. go from the edge of one point, to the edge of the other.
  9. same word, but different meaning. with a baitcaster, its only the way you hold the reel/rod. I do the same naturally. but what feels right to me is the trigger between my middle/ring finger.
  10. I am reading a book by Bill Murphy, "In Pursuit of Giant Bass". he stresses on the issue of releasing the big bass before releasing the smaller bass. its a great idea with the reasons he gives for that.
  11. leaving slack in the line: with a spinning reel, just pull some extra line out of the spool as it sinks. if it sinks to the bottom and needs more, pull out more. and leave enough so line goes straight down from the rod tip to the water. now I always keep the line straight, as it can curve up in the water. I feel like that may be overkill and miss a bite. I hope that makes sense. basically, I just pull out extra line and let it lay on the water. not a lot of extra line. only a foot or two. The guy that taught me how to fish plastics does this. its just his ole school way of fishing. he knows the fish quite well. his purpose really for leavin slack line is: by the time he sees it moving, and reels in the slack. he can set the hook. he gives the bass enough time to put the bait fully in his mouth. now there can be overkill with this. so dont go to any extremes. if that didn't make much sense, please let me know for future posts
  12. I have read here that if I gut-hook a bass, or it swallows the hook... that I need to just leave the hook in and leave 12-18" of line as I release him. leaving that amount of line, is that true? how does that work? how does the hook eventually come out? and can the bass choke on the hook? some questions that came up, thanks
  13. people stress on taking young folks fishing. I can agree. and teaching them good fishing principles is key to ensure our waters for years to come. now-a-days many lakes around where I live have made it illegal to fish on the banks of the lakes. Mostly due to people leaving trash. I think its also important to teach them how to handle the fish, and to practise catch-and-release. especially, as hard as it may be, to throw the bigger fish back. they are the ones that will spawn and will produce better offspring. (so maybe after their first big fish, lol, I dont think they'll let u put the first one back)
  14. by no means are bass 4lbs up sluggish and lazy--... well maybe lazy. but they have quick striking ability. the one you saw might have been limited in speed.
  15. I use fluroclear and I can't see it unless its on top of the water, or right at the rod. I usually leave alot of slack out to watch my line and this ensures the fish eats the lure by the time I reel that slack in, but I can't really do that with that type of line. I keep a curve from the end of the pole to the water, so I can see the line move. I can tell a fish is taking it, yet still enough time to let the fish eat it (instead of ripping it away from him). I have felt bites, especially durin spawn. what else seems to make sense is when there are active fish feeding, they ****** their head to the side after they eat it. Most of the time, I never feel the bite. I see the line, or if I think I'm snagged, I have to reel in lightly and feel the fish before setting the hook. rarely I do that, I just set the hook anyhow.
  16. did someone say easy? must have been a typo-- ;D
  17. well, they dont at the moment... lol ;D
  18. hm, I dont fish many other species, but infisherman has an informative show. sounds like the mag is the same.
  19. lol, same here. ziploc would be a smarter choice. I mean, they even look drybaggy
  20. well it isn't just cabelas it is bass pro shops as well. I was askin u all to see if its common for them to run out at the end of the year and only print more when the 2006 comes out? bassproshops said they were all out of stock and wont be back until 2006. I was wonderin if this is common. and I see cabelas does the same.
  21. was that a 15lb diameter? your best bet is to just tie on a flurocarbon liter. might as well not fight your urge to use PP. I use it, great line. I really want to try this Yozuri Hybrid (soft). I just got to find a way to buy it online, I dont have a credit card.. hah (for good reason I guess) do you walk around the pond or just the side of your land? I'm hoping you fish the whole thing. you should put some cover around your side of it, if its shallow, and it has cover, that'll be the spot durin the spawn, and just make it better overall.
  22. lmfao well thats what I was talkin about, they dont have a bass fishing mag available. y'all could send me ur old ones though, lol
  23. apparently the bass are having entirely too much time to eat the lure. when you see your line movin or feel the strike, give 1 1/2 secs and set the hook. if that isn't enough time, then 2 secs is the general rule of thumb. if they swallow it, cut the like and leave 18 inches of line up from the hook.
  24. RW, in-line or infisherman good big bass mags? I'll probly look into bassmaster. but like LBH said with replacin his mags with this site.... well, I never had mags, so I won't have to replace 'em.. lol I'm not much into the whole tournament side of fishing... I want the good stuff, the lunkers out there. ;D however, catchin bass is always nice regardless, so there is always somethin to learn.
