This depends on what made the pawl bad to begin with and how long it went undetected (or vise versa). Most of the bad worm gears I come across are the result of something other than normal wear. more times than not lack of proper lube kills the pawl i assume. i could be wrong.

Im not planning on deep crankin a lot besides the summer so, should I go with a 6.4:1? i would and what type of mag brake reels have you used? theres nothing like the Daiwa on the market. my Fuego throws 1/4 Bandits as good or better than my Revo S. I have some older quantum. I just like the shimano citica thats why I think I would prefer it. that would be a good reel for your cranks. get another one.

i cant imagine the worm gear being bad. the paw can be changed by removing the cap holding it. there should be a brass spacer in there. duck soup.

id get the Daiwa Fuego for sale in the flea market. im not a fan of low geared reels for anything other than the deepest cranks.

i like the Lightning rods. my old man has has 3 of them and he uses them for everything from cranks to plastics. no reason you cant find a good use for the rod. rod specs would help with techniques.
