  1. Dont worry Dom, its only a 3 mile drive, so falling asleep wont be a problem, when I feel sleepy, I just drive faster, for the adrenaline ;D LOL, I remember when I had to travel 1 hour from my parents into Auburn for work at 5am ... by the time I got to the canyon I had a hard time keeping my eyes open... so with no traffic I would try to beat my record of getting through the canyon. I think I finally set the record at 7 minutes. Thinking back to it, it probably wasn't the smartest of things to do :-? But back to the allnighters, I took my old man out to Lake A last night for some night fishing for fathers day. We were fishing by 7pm and I told him that this was his day and I would leave when he wanted to leave. He finally called it quits at 9am ... after laying the smack down on me!!! My old man is the shi!T ;D .
  2. I don't throw frogs much, so my jig rod doubles as my frog rod. MBR844 IMX Shimano Chronarch 100B 65# Suffix Braid Spro Bronzeye
  3. LOL at "RAD" ;D
  4. Don't mean to be insensitive but... Crazy story though. Up where I used to live there used to be attacks once every couple years. When I was in elementry school there was one that was stalking little kids for a week until they finally killed it. Just recently an old couple escaped an attack after they jabbed a pen in it's eye. I've never met one face to face like that, but I have been fishing in a boat and saw one on the shore about 75 yards from me. It seemed to be more scared of me than I was of it as it ran off soon as it saw me.
  5. Well I'll tell a story from the pedestrian side of this post.. I almost died earlier this week while crossing a crosswalk. Let me start off by saying this intersection has 12 signs all together regarding pedestrians and the cross walk. 5 of which are located on the side I was on. They all say "Watch for Pedestrians when turning right". Or STOP HERE: Then look for Pedestrians. There are even flashing lights built into the ground along the crosswalk to get drivers attention when peds are crossing. It's pretty high tech... but is much needed as this road connects downtown Sacramento with Old Town Sacramento. So with that said, I was walking back to my work after my lunchtime walk. I waited at the crosswalk waiting for my ped. light to signal me it's "Ok" to cross. This is one of those intersections that a car must be in the crosswalk to see if there is oncoming traffic before turning right, but there are signs saying stop here first before turning. So anyway, It turns on and I look to make sure no cars are coming and start across. As I get to the halfway point I notice a white car coming pretty fast towards me. I'm at that point where there is no turning back and making eye contact isn't helping as the driver is fulling engaged in a text messaging conversation on her cell phone. Obviously this chick doesn't see the 4ftX4ft sign saying stop here before turning right. At this point she has no intentions of stopping BEFORE the crosswalk as the sign states, so it's either get hit, or make a move, so I take two quick steps to get out of the way, but still couldn't get out of the way quick enough, so I jump up in the air, and land on this chicks hood right when she glances up from her phone and steps on the brakes. Luckily I wasn't hurt at all, but I did leave a fat dent on the hood. So this chick comes out screaming in Korean or Chinese, or some language I don't understand... and I'm like great, this is just a bad situation.. but LUCKILY, there just happened to be an off duty cop on the other side of the road that saw EVERYTHING ;D. He asked me if I wanted to pursue charges for attempted vehicular something...l don't remember the term. But it wasn't worth it. She was already getting a ticket for being on a cell phone (Found out it was her 3rd charge for that), and the hood was pretty messed up... so she got what she deserved and I was fine. But it was pretty scary stuff. There are some stupid drivers out there
  6. I did this race for the first time with my mom and dad and my moms work this year in Sacramento, CA. The three of us walked the 3K (Or was is 5K :-/) in memory, and in celebration, of my aunt who passed away from breast cancer, my second aunt who is a 5 year survivor of cancer, and my ex girlfriends step-dad who passed away from cancer. All three touched me in a way that changed the way I look at life. Although my two aunts cases happened when I was young, and didn't know what was going on, my ex's step dad hit me pretty hard. I was there threw it all. Met him when he was a healthy retired fire fighter, to the diagnosis, then watching cancer physically and mentally break him down, to watching him take his last breath :'(. So needless to say, it was pretty cool to meet 35,000 people that have had a similar experience We had around 35,000 participants this year. Let me tell you, I'm not an emotional guy, it takes ALOT to get me teary eyed, but listening to stories, and talking to these survivors made me feel like a crying baby. I talked with a lady during the walk who was walking 3K with a walker. She was a 15 year survivor and was 87 years old . I talked to her for about 20 minutes. She was telling me the story of her experience and how both her and her husband were diagnosed with breast cancer within the same year. They both fought a long and hard battle, using each other as motivation, but the cancer ended up taking her husbands life at the same time the told her that the cancer was dormant in her. She has been doing this race since then, but just recently had a stroke which put her in the walker, but to see an 87 year old breast cancer survivor doing a 3k walk just blew my mind. I had SO much respect for this lady and it was an honor to chat with her. So for those of you that have never participated in the event, your really missing out on an experience that might really open your eyes. I highly recommend giving it a try as it is for a great cause. srv1990 - thanks for the post. Congrats on your sister's accomplishment. That is awesome!!!
  7. Matt... Quit giving away all the secrets . Yes this works great with most swimbaits. While I don't have the patience to let a bait sit for 20 minutes, when I do use this technique I normally do anywhere from 3-5 minutes. The big girls tend to be real picky on what they want to eat. If you give them time to analyze the situation, it can sometimes stack the odds in your favor. All of my hardgill fish have been from this technique. I'll find shady pockets and throw on the sunny side of the line. I'll let it sit and sometimes if you let it sit long enough you can see them come out and stare down the bait. Anyway, with a bait this detailed, you have a real advantage when using this technique!!!
  8. I'm the same way with sunscreen. But if you take some pro-cure or megastrike, or any fish attractant after your done applying it and rub it in your hands, that way you won't be spreading the smell of the bug repellant all over your fishing equipment.... Other than bug spray, maybe get a beekeepers suit :-/
  9. The only acheivement I have left is Mile High on Veteran (MW). Tried it last night but can't get past the first set of guys after you go up the stairs. >
  10. Halibut is great too. I've fried it in batter like fish sticks, grilled it on the BBQ, and even made fish tacos. It's great for people who don't like the "Fishy" taste of fish :-/ Also, if any of you guys ever get the chance, be sure to try Halibut cheeks... sounds kinda weird, but they are like the filet Mignon of halibut. 8-)
  11. What gives? :-/ I heard it's a scheduled maintenance thing, but what are they doing? I've heard rumors they are making it free? Is this true? So I don't know what to do since I can't play COD:MW, so far i've counted the tile pieces in my kitchen. And cleaned out the fridge... :-[
  12. Well then, I guess the flounder have migrated to the west coast... Cause I've caught them in in the same place that little girl caught her Halibut... Can remember the name of it... It's in Southeast Alaska near the Kenai Peninsula. Biggest was about 5-10# tops. So they are over here on the west coast
  13. Branuss, Wikipedia is NOT a viable source... : ;D That explains all the bad grades in school STUPID!!! STUPID!!! I recently heard that somewhere... never did confirm it though. So correct me if i'm wrong, anybody can put any information about any subject in wikepedia? Is that correct... hmm crazy stuff :-/
  14. I'm no bioligist whatsoever. But here you go: "A halibut is a type of flatfish from the family of the right-eye flounders (Pleuronectidae" Source = Wikepedia Halibut - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Halibut Flounder - http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Flounder I caught both up in Alaska. While at first glance to the untrained eye they look VERY similar, upon closer inspection you can point out differences. The main difference I noticed was color. But I'm sure somebody more knowledgeable will chime in and give us the real answer
  15. Pretty cool read http://www.adn.com/outdoors/fishing/story/832191.html After reading that I REALLY want to go back. If any of you ever have a chance to go up there do not hesitate!!! I went for a week with my old man about 2 years ago. I still can look at the pictures and get all tingly inside ;D
  16. don't know if this is a typo or what but thats funny!!!!! the lights are stock, idk what their specs are. and yes mr. anus04, she does like my aquarium ;D Took my post out... I just remember way back you made a comment saying girls were icky ;D. and you didn't have time for them. I will no longer tease you for that. Congrats. How are they effecting the water (Clarity, Dirtyness, O2 levels, etc) asSam... well I don't know what to say to you
  17. Spongebob is the only strange thing you noticed? You find a fat, talking starfish and a "meowing" snail to be normal? ;D Your right, that is one messed up movie. ;D Your right, that's just the tip of the ice berg. The meowing snail is pretty creepy, or what about the squirrel with the divers helmet. Come on now, have you ever tried holding a squirrel under water :-? Whats' really messed up is that you guys actually went and watched that movie! I hope you at least took the kids. ;D I love horror/slasher flicks so none of them really bother me. Remember-it's only a movie! The one that I can't get out of my head is "Night and Day" which is a documentary of the concentration camps during the holocaust that we watched in High school in film study class. I get nightmares whenever I think about that one. Nothing Rob Zombie could dream up could ever outdo what actually went on there. HAHA.. I knew somebody was going to say this after I posted it. But yes I watched it when I had to watch my little cousins (They are 4)... they are addicted to the show
  18. You have a right to your own opinion, but here's something to think about. Most people getting into swim baits tend to be scared off by the high dollar baits (there is a reason why they are expensive )and lean towards the budget friendly baits (One reason why there are so many crappy baits on the market today). People like you saying "It's worth a try @ that price" might try 10 "budget friendly baits" in your lifetime before you realize there is a reason their cheap. Lets say half of those budget friendly baits fall apart, don't swim straight, or just aren't realistic : enough to catch fish (yes, in my area realistic swim baits are a MUST). Well with the money from those 5 budget friendly baits that didn't work, you could have bought yourself 2 quality high dollar baits that are "proven" swim baits. With that said, I've been through the "Budget" swim baits. Been there done that > . As well as NUMEROUS other people on this board. Most of us try to help out "amateur" people like you and steer you clear of baits that have failed us and point you in the right direction to baits that will A.) Quicken the learning curve of swim baits and/or Put more fish in the boat. If we have had good luck with bait A, we will highly recommend it over bait B. Matt lures baits happen to be one of those baits that EVERYBODY throws and has good luck with. I've thrown those crappy castaics... in fact I believe they might have been my first swim bait. As stated above, the "Budget" price lured me in and I bit. I quickly realized there was a reason they were so cheap :-[ Anyway man... take this as you will, but remember, Matt has a giant group of followers for a reason. When somebody asks me what baits they should start out with, his are on the top of that list. His baits are legit and worth every penny. Not only that, he takes care of his customers through thick and thin. Good luck finding that with castaic. Oh yea one more thing. Swim baits are made to be as realistic as possible, in most cases that is there design, to replicate an actual fish... to compare the realisticness (yes I made up a word) of a swim bait to a big spoon is like comparing a apples and oranges.
  19. Get with the times old man!! J/K But I haven't used a phone book in a couple years. With my phone or computer, it takes half the time to look things up.
  20. Spongebob is the only strange thing you noticed? 21. Spongebob Square Pants: The Movie Seriously... a sponge... in the ocean :-/
  22. Solution = Exercise/Activity I'm the same way. I have a extremely comfy bed, so once I touch it, i'm done for. I just try to keep myself busy. Playing video games, re-organizing tackle, going to the gym, fishing, cleaning, etc. The gym helps me ALOT. Not only does it take up time, but gives me a bit of energy afterwards, and I'll end up sleeping 10 times better at night, therfore I wake up the next day feeling energized as well. Also try eating healthier, or at least fit some greens in with your grease. One other thing that kills me is getting into bad habits. If I come home and take a nap after work a couple days in a row, my body thinks that everyday I should take a nap when I get home when I don't need it. So try avoiding those things. I'm sure all this sounds redundant, but this stuff really helps me. Lots of my friends call me grandpa... I'm 22 years old, but really like my naps ;D. I can only imagine what i'll be like when I get to be old... like Burleys age :-?
  23. http://www.kcra.com/video/19753689/index.html This just adds to my evidence that this dumb state is completely infested with stupid people. It's also another reason I hate the Lakers, I can't stand most of their fans.
  24. BINGO... I think it has more to do with equipment than line. I can take the same line, same conditions, same bait but different rod and reel and have a totally different outcome. But if your stuck with your current setup, Trilene is good, I've always been a P-Line CX type of guy. I've never noticed any lack of distance, but then again, I've always had good equipment :-?
