I use a the Diawa Tierra 2000 Spinning Reel for my DS. To me, it's the PERFECT spinning reel. I can use it for DS, Trout fishing, small jigs, etc.

What about a float tube??? They are small and can easily fit inside a dorm room. Obvioulsy you won't have a trolling motor, but they are cheap and take up little room. Just throwing that out there. Good luck in school!!

Just curious about these drags. I just bought a Calcutta 400B that has these installed. I've never used any reels with them installed, nor have I ever researched them until now. It seems as though they deliver more #'s of drag. :-/ For those of you that have used them, Pro's? Con's? Thanks

I held one once... Broke it though. It wasn't even mine, it was at a demo tank. They had it attached to a 4 ft pole with 8# line and a jig attached to the end so you could experience the "Twitch". I asked the guy if the twitch bar was built to hold up against the wear and tear of bass fisherman. He assured me it was built "Ford" tuff!!! . So I buttoned down the drag, stepped on the jig, and pressed down on the twitch bar. Something popped and I handed the reel back and left. Kinda gimmicky to me. There are other ways to "Twitch" a jig than to buy a Twitching reel. Just my .02c

Went into our Sportsman's Warehouse last night. It appears that they are finally getting everything back in order. The shelves are becoming fuller, and they also had some killer deals on rods. They had a few IMX/GLX's marked $50 off plus an additional 10% the lowest marked price. They also had a bunch of Avids that were marked 40% off. Lots of fly rods as well including Reddington (SP) fly rods that are normally 200-250 marked down the 80-100. SO you guys might wanna go check out yours and see if they have any good deals.

Hooksets are free The more experience you get, the better you can tell if it's a fish or not. I learned this last year when throwing a 8" hudd for the first time. When your dragging a 5oz bait on the bottom of a rocky lake, every little stone feels like a bite. Being new to this bait, I could hardly tell if it was a fish or not... So I started setting the hook on just about anything. I ended up with 35.1#'s for 5 fish. a 9.1, 7, two 6's and a bunch of 3-5 #'s. You'll learn pretty quick with lots of practice. Good luck

Wait, so you want a new reel that is 6.3:1? Then that is an easy decision: the Citica is a 6.2:1 and the Curados are only offered in 5.0:1 and 7.0:1 There are still tons of new Curado D's out there that are 6.?.1

I have owned both (Curado 100DSV and Citica 200D). The Curado was well worth the extra $$$. THe Curado 100 is a great light lure baitcaster. The Citica seemed more "Heavy Duty".

I have one, too. It has been my favorite rod for many years. I recently bought a BCR854 which has a slightly faster tip, but no one would know unless they fished both rods! 8-) After I saw a couple people recommend that rod, I was curious as to what the difference is. That's good to know. Thanks for the information

I own the G Loomis MBR 844 IMX and its a great 1/2 jig rod. 80% of the jigs I throw are 1/2oz.

I was looking online at the water level today and it looks as if it should be spilling over. It is so great to see that lake and the lake right next to it full. Even Folsom is fuller than it has been in years. Being able to fish in the trees . That last storm we had plus the warm weather melting the snow is sure having an impact on the lakes. The full lakes sure give me motivation to go fishing. Hopefully the summer won't be as bad as last year. Keep up the good work FC!!
