  1. Where i normally fish, having the rod make it to the spot is half the battle. Catching is just a bonus.
  2. Again, thanks for the comments. Will look for the Roughnecks?
  3. Lightning Rods are within the budget, durability is the key factor. There are many trees, rocks, and other hazards in the available areas. Thanks so much for the replies.
  4. Is there any more durable rod for bank fishing than a Ugly Stik? Looking at around 6’ length.
  5. Interesting...... Would it make a difference to go with the XT model with the metal rotor in the 35 size?
  6. Favorite currently, Fenwick HMX 7'MF, Pflueger President 25, Fire line Crystal☺
  7. Seems like 7'11" is awfully long for flippin, imho.
  8. I have several of the Abu round reels mounted on various Loomis and Fenwick rods. Never have had an issue with them that I have not caused myself great reels. Like them much better than the low profile ones. But to each his/her own
  9. +1 For the Clarus. I have both the Triumph and the Clarus, and the Clarus is much more sensitive. Although neither one comes close to the Avid, they do not cost as much either. Just my humble opinion.
  10. I think you have to take them all with a grain of salt. If you use a reel with a quality rod, keep up the maintenance like you should(Clean and lubricate it) all of the ones you mention will do a good job. Like any thing else it only will last as long as you let it. Just my humble opinion.
  11. I have several Fenwick HMX rods, like them alot. a little more wallet friendly than the HMG's are.
  12. I agree with the above replies. I would get a 6'6 or 7' medium/medium heavy rod with a 2500-3500 size real. I would not be stuck on a brand, just quality components and a good warranty(because bad things happen).
  13. rj I usually fish for smallies in a river a few miles from the house. I normally use 6lb test with a #5 silver or gold rapala. I haven't had an outing where I haven't caught anything. Smallies are really finicky about feeding. If it doesnt act real, they probably wont bite. Hope this helps. John
  14. If your looking for indestructible get a couple UGLY Sticks from wally world. I have a Cherrywood 2pc I trout fish with that I really like.$20 at wally.
  15. It just depends on what type of fishing you are doing I guess. I know in my experiences if its less than 10lb test it works much better on spinning gear. Over 10lbs you're better off with baitcasters. Both have diminshing returns on money spent. If you use quality equipment and practice with it they are really both going to be great at what they are designed for.
  16. Most any custom car audio shop should be able to point you in the right direction. Shoul dbe able to look up custom graphics in the phone book. Any of those should be able to make you a decal in the correct font. Pricing???
  17. Shimano Clarus 5'6" UL Rod 59.99 Lifetime warranty and Shimano Symetre 1500. Not a posse member yet but close Used this combo for a while. Has not let me down yet. You could save a few bucks and get the Sahara 1500 or Daiwa Exceler 1500 to keep the aluminum frame.
  18. Yeap, same thing happened with quality camera equipment, everyone went to the local camera shop to look and touch, but ordered from new york. Now its look on the internet and buy where they have a good return policy. I'm lucky BPS and Gander Mtn are close, and cabelas is supposed to be opening up soon just south of here. Most of the local stores only carry bottom middle stuff. Still havent seen a stella except at BPS and just drolled.
  19. i switched from stren to suffix elite after reading the tackletour.com review and could not be happier. It is also available at wally world for about $7.00 for 330 yds john
  20. I agree with island bass "A 6'6" MH Shimano Compre for $89 and the $50 spinning reel of your choice." I would look for a Sahara first and maybe a symetre on sale.
  21. Shimano Compre is a really good rod for around $100, but an avid on clearance is a great rod for that price.
  22. I have used it for a few months in the 4 and 6 lb sizes. It has worked great so far. I have used it on 1500 and 2500 size reels, shimano sahara(1500), daiwa capricorn (2500).
  23. I could not believe it, I got both a Loomis SJR781S IMX and Symetre 1500 for 99.99. New with tags and box and spare spool. ;D
  24. I was looking at the President also, it was definitely a little smoother, but I ended up getting a sahara due to the metal frame versus the Presidents graphite frame. Both are wonderful reels though. If you take care of them both will last a long time.
