Its a great investment and when you get caught up in a cold heavy rain you'll be happy they are in the boat.
  7. What about Banana-Stix? Sure they would work too.
  8. Ok never heard that term before, what does it mean when a lake "turns over"? Is it a fall thing?
  9. but if that fish is a world record then that guy must be 9 feet tall with HUGE hands. The fish doesn't look any bigger then 6.5 lbs to me. -Well said, just look at the size of his 3 fingers on the belly of the fish. Doubt it is even 6.
  10. Your having too much fun up there, its good your going back to work so you dont scar these fish for life.
  11. So far this fall I have been doing really well in the mouths of coves that still have nice green coontail and any rivers that run in or out of the lakes have been the best I have ever seen. Rat-l-traps, texas rigged watermelon senkos, and jigs on brush or trees in the rivers have been very good to me. But then again I'm up north
  12. Ya it is being over done. I have started fishing a few Connecticut lakes like Amos or Highland which have slot limit of 12-18 inches and you can only take home one fish over 18 inches a day. I must say WOW! I have been there 4 times ow and have yet to catch a fish under 2 pounds. And the quality and numbers are there too, usually between 2-4 pounds with a few over 4 and about a dozen fish in about 3-4 hours. It seems like they know how to manage their fish. Wish the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management would try to do the same. :
  13. Two and half, 3 at the most with 6 tungstein sinkers in its belly.
  14. I live in Rhode Island and I know there is D100 but what about the ABA in Connecticut, specifically eastern CT?
  15. I'll tell you what it really doesnt matter, my buddy just had to pay big to replace a tranny in his 06 Duramax. It has only 30,000 miles on it but the dealership said it was his fault because he tows his Ranger with the truck in over-drive. But anyway four-wheel drive always helps, ( because Rhode Island ramps really aint ramps, they are skinny bumpy muddy trails with a small cement blocks ) and try to get a 6-cylander, makes life easier. If she has a problem with you getting the bigger engine, just go on ebay and buy one of the hybrid emblems off a toyota or something and slap it on, she wont know ;D
  16. The senko is an amazing bait and it is sooo simple. Legend has it Gary Yamamoto accidentley dropped his pen in the water and watched it fall and the rest is history. There are videos of anglers on the B.A.S.S. tour ( forgot where i saw them) acctually using it in the mid 1990's so it has been around for a while. If you are around pads or grass that grows thick to the top of the water it is great to use up top. But go heavy, 7' Medium Heavy casting set-up with 65 pound braid, and a heavy duty wide gap is the way to go.
  17. Shakey head cannot be beat. Just throw a finesse worm on one and cast along side a dock and hold on.
  18. Its either one of two things. Find the lilly pads ( not the little silver dollar ones the big ones that are thick) and throw a swimming jig through them or on top of them. Or just find some green coontail in 8-10' of aqua and throw a 4" watermelon gold senko. Real simple and a real lot of fish.
  19. I got hooked when I went to my first bass tournament and witnessed a "blast off", seeing a bunch of boats flying down the lake to get to their "honey holes" on a perfect morning. I love fishing but I think I like the competitive side more. Don't get me wrong catching a big fish is awsome, but catching a big fish in the final minutes of a tournament to win it is much better.
  20. Must have been interesting. But I give you credit, all the fish in your video are bigger than anything I have ever seen Russ catch. ;D
  21. Nice video Matt, like the snapper.

I have heard a lot of guys talk about going light (1/4 or even 1/8) in spring and fall and then going heavier in summer. Why light in spring and fall? I usually just stick to 1/4 oz year round when I fish docks, rocks, and brush. Then go to 3/8oz in heavy cover, and 1/2oz. in deep water.
  23. 7 foot medium castaway spinning rod, abu garcia cardinal 503 with 10 pount triple fish camo
  24. We had a few diesel outbards at school and they shake really really bad. lol
  25. Abu Garcia Torno 3006 hsi $100 new off ebay, St. Croix 6'6" medium heavy premier casting rod $100 anywhere. Its a pretty light rig and as for sensitivity. It is all about how in tune YOU are with what your bait is doing.
