What's going on at Pony Pasture?
Any of you Virginia guys fish Pony Pasture this time of year? '07 was my first time fishing that section and I got a late start on it - August. But I ended up doing reasonably well on jigs. Just wondering if anyone fishes there this time of year? If so, what's some good baits? I live in Newport News - some 65-70 miles from Richmond so trips to Pony Pasture are few and far between. I notice the water level is up a bit from summer - 6 inches to a foot (according to a website). Has anyone seen the recent conditions at Pony Pasture? Is rock-hopping to the middle of the river still possible? If not, are there any other places to try where fishing from the bank or rocks is possible? (I was going to ask this in Triton's thread but didn't want to hijack it.) Thanks.

Abu Garcia C3 4600/4601 Question
Up until a few months ago, I owned 6 C4s (5 5600 and 1 6500). I've since sold 3 of the 5600s. Now I'm regretting it. These reels are "old school." They are heavy. But they perform very well. They are smooth, and seem to get smoother with age. Mine were/are the 2-brake versions also. They are exceptionally well built. I've switched over to LP reels (Revos and Curados) and a couple of round EXT Pros (also Abu Garcia). I don't fish much with my C4s anymore. But I took them apart this weekend and cleaned and lubed them and began thinking about taking them out again. They are really good reels. I wouldn't sell it. That's a recipe for regret. You're not going to get much for it anyway. Keep it and use it, or keep it and buy another reel. One day you're going to feel a bit nostalgic and want to use it again.

Abu Garcia Promax
That's not necessarily a bad thing. The S's brake is apparently more effective than the magnetic brake on other Revos.

Officially, they are "polymeric," which could mean a lot. Probably a poly/graphite combitnation.

Million Dollar Question
I'd vote MORE ON REEL, LESS ON ROD, only because this is the way it has worked out for me. But, I guess you can pretty much spend as much as you want on either.

bagley baits.
I know BPS is going to stop carrying their stuff. Bagley isn't in the current catalog and most of their stuff is on clearance in the store.

Merucry Outboard
How big is your jon boat? Is 8 HP enough? I have a 1548 jon and I had a 9.9 Merc 4 stroke and it wasn't enough. I mean, it would move the boat, but it wouldn't plane. It was a nice barge. I've since upgraded to a 15 HP 4 stroke and couldn't be happier. One thing that I would highly recommend, if you can get it on the motor you are buying, is electric start. Your motor will get old to you fast if you have to start it with a pull rope. My 9.9 was a bear to start and keep running.

Rapala Glass Fat Raps on clearance at BPS
OK, that's why I didn't see them. I was looking under crankbaits.

Rapala Glass Fat Raps on clearance at BPS
I like them. They have a nice action. Until today, I only had some to the chartreuse colored ones and they produce well in cloudy/muddy water. The original balsa Fat Rap is great. I have a few in perch color and they catch a lot of fish in clearer water. These are the only "Glass" Rapalas I've used. A month ago or so I bought a bunch of Glass Shad Raps and I'm itching to try them. Shad Raps are killer, but they don't produce in some of the water I like to fish that's cloudy/muddy. So I'm hoping a flashier, louder Glass Shad Rap will do the trick. On thing I like about them is that the reflective element is inside the body - like on the X-Raps. I like this because some of my X-Raps have gotten pretty chewed up but they still shimmer away. For $4, it's worth trying. BTW, that may be an "in store" deal only. I don't even see Fat Raps or Glass Fat Raps on BPS's website anymore.

Rapala Glass Fat Raps on clearance at BPS
Rapala Glass Fat Raps on clearance at BPS for $4 (2" lures). Normally they are $6. I think that's a pretty good deal for a great bait. I picked up a handful of white, perch and chartreuse.

Think I finally have a crankbait that T-Rig doesn't own!
Isn't Sebile a French company? T-Rig's probably been there.

Abu Garcia Max series reels
The thing that bugs me about them is the thumb lever. It's chromed plastic and it doesn't look very durable.

VA guys
Where at Yorktown? Are you fishing under the foot of the bridge?

Crankbait wobble
Can someone list some common crankbaits (Make and Model) that have a wide wobble and some that have a tight wobble? I'm not sure I know which ones are tight and which ones are wide. I usually just use a crank that will get to the desired depths in a pattern/color that is appropriate for water conditions. I've only recently became semi-successful on a semi-regular basis with crankbaits. So this is all very interesting to me.

Nice job. You might have found your calling. dsaavedra Baits, Ltd. Has a nice ring to it. Maybe Delos will carry your work.

shimano symetre...bummer
I read on another website that the first batch of new Stellas that have been delivered are being recalled due to faulty gearing which is causing grinding. Wonder if this isn't a more widespread problem.

Who owns a REVO S or SX
Depends on which brake system you want. If you don't mind messing around with a mechanical brake, you apparently won't be handicapped by the S's 9 bearings. If you decide you want a magneitc brake, check out the Revo SC sold by Cabelas. Cabela's REVO SC

Who owns a REVO S or SX
Is the brake on the S more effective that the one on the SC/SX? I'd image it would have to be , but like to hear it from someone who uses both.
-
Who owns a REVO S or SX
I have a couple of Revo SCs (9 bearings) and a couple of Revos SXs (11 bearings). The Revo SC is basically a Revo S with a magnetic brake. There is no discernible difference in performance between the SC and SX.
