Got a new trailer for my bass getter!
That looks to be a very solid trailer, it should last a very long time.

When did you fall in love with fishing?
I grew up going to the lake, but our boat's motor blew and we couldn't get it fixed (money). We mainly skied and hung out, but I always liked to casual fish. So now that I finally have my own boat I can go out their more now and I love it. Before I had to wait until a friend was going, but now I can go whenever I want to.

When is the best time of year to buy a bass boat?
New boats I'm not sure how much the price will go up or down. A used boat will be cheaper during the fall and winter. People either aren't using it or don't want to pay to have it stored. While memorial day to 4th of July I think the boat prices are the highest because it's the prime time to be on the lake. My guess is Labor Day to maybe Feb is when you will find boats a lot cheaper. Like everything else, buy it when it is the off season so it is a lot cheaper then during the peak of the season. Rather it be camping gear, hunting/fishing, etc...

Is it possible to put a kicker on a Bass boat?
I think a lot of walleye fisherman have a small engine next to their main motor for trolling, so their is a lot of people that have a small 9-15HP next to their 150+hp. I think they do it because the bigger engines aren't good to be running slow, they are made to go fast. So I guess you should be able to mount the smaller engine next to your main engine.

xtra trolling motor
If your just worried about if your main motor does out, your bow mount should do the job, you don't need to add the 12V onto the back. My reverse went out on my main motor so I use the bow 12V on my boat when I'm getting it on and off the trailer or pulling next to someone. I just get as far on the trailer as I can, and then start the main motor to push the rest of the way. If all else the trailer wrench can pull the boat up. I think adding the extra 12V maybe going over board. Plus that's another thing to wire and something else to get in your way when you trying to land a big one.

Storing Leaders
Do you make your leaders for drop shotting out on the water or do you make your leaders at home? If you make yours at home, where/how do you store yours? I am trying to get some ideas on how to store them so they don't get all tangled.

points, flats, etc
I have heard, it seems very time consuming, but I have heard of some older guys say that when they didn't have a depth finder they would tie a heavy weight to a line and make the ling every foot or every 5 feet, and drop the sinker. Then they can feel when it is on the bottom and look on the line and see what depth it is.

Boat insurance..any ideas.. company suggestions etc.????
One thing to remember is most, if not all, do determine your price by your driving record. Even thou driving on the water is a lot different on the road, that is what they base it on. I have Nationwide, and because I have a lot of speeding tickets it might be more then most, but I pay 21.25 a month. Nationwide was one that let you pay monthly, while a lot of them make you pay the whole amount up front. They do that because a lot of people will stop paying during winter months and then reactivate during the summer. My coverage covers liability and uninsured motorist. You can add more coverage to cover your electronics and fishing gear, but I'm not sure how much more that is. When you get insurance they usually need the hull vin number and the motor serial number, the length, horsepower, make, model, and year.

trailer question
We don't have to register trailers here, unless they are being towed be a commercial/company vehicle. But when I bought my boat in IN they guy their said if I needed to register the trailer that I just needed to take it to a local police department. He said they come out and look at and then stamp it. You might want to call them and ask them. You also might to call your local boat dealers and ask then what they do when someone trades in a boat and trailer isn't registered? Maybe they can lead you to the right place.

What got you hooked?
I got hooked because I loved being on the water and it gave me another reason to be on the water. Then once you chance a fish and see him jump out of the water, it is a great feeling.

My Boat Purchase
Nice looking rig

What food do you pack in the boat for a day on the water?
I usually take a can of peanuts and munch on them.

Skinny Bass
I read somewhere, I don't know if it was Bassmaster, Outdoor Life, or where but they were talking about plastic. They said now biodegradable plastics are going to be coming more poplar because the original plastic will always be in the water which isn't good for the fish and the new biodegradable plastics will be better for the environment. Some last a year and some last only 3 weeks.

Tow Vehicle Question
I haven't ever had trouble with my 2wd Dodge Dakota with a V6 or my dad's 2wd GMC 2500 pulling his cuddy cabin.
-
Tow vehicle.
As long as the weight of the boat is below the towing rating of your vehicle you should have no worries. So if it can haul 6500lbs and I doubt the boat is 6000lbs you should have any worries as long as you don't have to stop fast.

Towing
A 18ft boat, it would be good to use the ford tauras or any kind of car. That's why when you go to a boat ramp you don't see trailers hooked up to cars. They just aren't built for that. I would guess your tauras towing rating is below the boat and trailers weight. Realistically, you could tow it, stopping won't be easy, and your motor and transmission wont last long towing the boat. Your best bet is to get a old truck/suv to tow the boat.

impeller replacement.
on my 1972 55HP Chrysler outboard it was pretty easy, the only hard thing is when I unscrewed the unit, it dropped a little for you to pull a pin for the gear shaft. So the very small opening of attaching and unattaching it. After you unhook that, not sure on your model how it is setup, the whole lower unit will slide down with the drive shaft. The water impeller will be right on top of the lower unit. Just pull it off or slide it off, depends if it is shredded. Then just slide the new impeller on and silde the lower unit back up in place and attach the gear shaft. Really not that hard, like changing your oil. Once you do it once it is a breeze and not that hard.

Advice...What would you do
That just depends, are you going to be using when you are driving around the lake or just when you are fishing? If you want to look at the depth below while driving then mount on transom. If you are only going to look at while fishing, mouth on trolling motor. But keep in mind you trolling motor maybe 1 foot under the water, so if it reads 7ft, it actually is 8ft.

Bilge pump?
If your boat doesn't have a bilge pump or a working one, you should invest in one. They can be about $10-$20. It is a very good cheap insurance to have when you out on the lake or keep your boat in the water for a long time. My boat doesn't leak, but a lot of boat leak a little, but my boat does get water if I'm going slow and a big wave comes. I think I got my bilge pump and auto switch for $20 for both.

Fishing.. is it a sport or a hobby?
I would count it as a sport, because a hobby to me is more like something you collect. Like collecting fishing lures or fishing reels would be your hobby. I don't get fishing gear just to collect and look at, I get them to go out and try and catch fish. I catch and release, but I still would like to catch them. So it is me vs the fish, and pretty much anything with a ___ vs ___ I count as a sport. It's a sport, but just because you in enjoy a sport doesn't mean you can't be a casual sporter. Like playing two hand touch football, you don't play 100 yards, you just need enough to play. Like me and you, we are casual fishermen, not professionals, but we are still getting to the same goal to catch fish. The key in every agreement. You find fishing gear in the sporting goods area and Sporting goods stores, not hobby lobby or hobby usa.

Do you start your boat out of water
Always have water going into the engine when you start it, rather it is at the lake, ear muffs, or lower unit in a trash can or bucket. Running the engine without water can hurt the water impeller or engine. The impeller could come apart because it is just a piece of rubber. And the engine could over heat if you run it long enough without water to cool it down.

CABELAS vs BPS Catalogs
I shop Bass Pro because their is one in my town so I don't have to pay shipping. Both are close as in prices for the same or similar ideas, but by the time I pay for shipping from Cabelas it is cheaper for me to go to my local Bass Pro.

What to do with old Bassmaster magazines
I put a post-it and have it stick out of the magazine and write what that section is about. If it's about a certain type of presentation, time of the year (winter, summer, fall, spring), shallow/deep water, etc... So that way I can go back and look at those things before a certain time outing and just brush up on something I read about last year but might have forgot.

Sit on top kayak or sit in?
I prefer the sit in one, that way you can put fishing gear down between your legs and not have to worry about it falling out into the water. I have one just like the one sit in one pictured.

Towing a Bass Tracker w/ Ford Explorer
Level is best, less tongue weight. The under bumper receiver is great because you can turn sharper, but the best advance is if you tow different trailers. Then you can switch between a 2inch and 1 7/8inch and still have that sporty look instead of 2-3 balls on the bumper, and for some they only 1 hole. So it's easier to pull the 2inch out and slide in a different receiver then unscrewing the ball from the bumper.
