Biggest Tournament Payout
Tin, take a little vacation down here for a week. Bass Champs, Bass-N-Bucks average from 175-225 boats and a lot of the others will average over 100. Entry fees are less than 300.00 and they pay out either a boat or around 20-25 grand for first. tons of fun but you better have your game on.

X2, and start watching a week in advance.

How would you fish this?
At 575 acres I would put the trolling motor on high 24 and cover water with cranks stopping to fish any significant change in bottom, weed lines, or other structure with a plastic or two until I got bit. The first bite should let you know what to do.

Reading the timber
Busy, thanks, more good points you raise. The younger generation, many times, is accused of taking short cuts, and I for one think they are not given the credit due. Back to the subject. Can someone tell me the location the following trees typically grow? To keep it simple let's group them instead of breaking them down into all the different subspecies. Feel free to add any you like. Pine Oak Sweetgum Cedar Mesquite Elm

Bassmaster Membership Mail Gimmick
I got tired of it several years ago and called the circulation department about it. The lady was very nice, told me to keep it as a gift, and I have not received any other promotion item like it since.

Reading the timber
I'll have to disagree here. Reading and usage of today's electronics is a lot harder than reading the trees. At least it is for me. Good point.

Reading the timber
You shouldn't, it's only designed to make you think about the situation. Not meant to provoke anyone. When you loose the will to reason or learn you hinder your ability to improve yourself. Electronics fail, and it will help you if you have an understanding of the terrain above and below the water. The modern day advantages we all have access to are outstanding. I wish I had taken more time to familiarize myself with this subject early on in my younger days. I would have been a lot more successful if I had.

Reading the timber
Yes Matt, I guess all the younger guys never had to figure it out without any of the equipment that's out there today. I really figured some would give it a go, but so far no one seems willing to get involved in the discussion.

upgrade and tune old abu or replace?
I was going to send it to him anyway... the reel isn't bad, it's been in intermittent service for 15+ years, with a higher set of gears in it. I just figured with the upgrades, it might perform like some of the newer reels. (I could re-gear it and fish it fine, but that solution lacks the sex appeal of upgrades) I know the logical thing would be to retire it but since I won't use it often, I hate to buy a new reel and let it gather dust most of the year. I would be interested in the high speed gearset your replacing if it is still usable. They were very loud, but I'll put up with the noise.

Storage....
All my plastics hang on a peg board in my garage in the original bag. It just takes a glance to see if I need to restock. When I get ready to head out I grab the ones I want and throw them in their compartment in my boat.

All Star Rods?
Strange question. Why?

baitcaster fell in water, should I do anything.
Just fish it. It will let you know if it needs any care. A drop of lube on each end of the spool shaft if anything at all.

Reading the timber
Just wondering if anyone ever took the time to study types of trees, the type of soil that they generally grow in, and which ones grow in different terrains. When you pull up to an area and all you can see are acres of the rotted bare post sticking above the water it helps to know whether these five to twenty feet tall tree stumps originally grew in a bottom land setting or were prominate in a higher elevation. If you can it immediately shows you where the humps, ridges, and creeks are located. You don't need a depth finder for this and it immediately cancels out 90% of the water that will hold no fish. Some will show you a clay bottom, but others will never grow there and need a sandy type soil to grow. Which grow where? Let's hear your thoughts and see what you really know about following creeks and drains, as well as picking out the humps and ridges in a flooded forrest.

How can I get sposeres to notice me and begin 2 fish for a living.
I doubt this post was serious. I certainly hope it was a joke. If not, you need to either go back to school or hire a tutor. Until then, just forget it.

That's just as good as cash, I like those tourneys that will give you a nice rig instead ;D Yep, but most on this site have no idea how it use to be. I won a 15' Raycraft boat on a trailer as a third place boat years ago, there was no motor on the rear. Just the boat & trailer, nothing else.- I'm so mad I can't see straight (updated with pics)
The first thing a boat owner should do is get to know a good reputable mechanic. When you have a problem is not the time to get to know one.- Re: Speedometer question
If yours works correctly count your blessings. I know of none that do. A good GPS will tell the tale, and by the way is the number one factor in killing the top end speed of a boat.- mastered senko... whats next?
I havn't mastered the Senko and I have been fishing it since it came out. It's all about location and what to do with it. It changes daily(Hourly), and what you do with it makes all the difference. You may have been successful catching fish on it, but you certainly have not mastered it. What's the plan when you do not get bit on it? No one ever masters any lure. It's an everyday learning process that will continue until the day you lay the rod down. Good luck- My tournament results
