  1. It's no big deal.
  2. I can help you with the locations. Let me know where you will be launching and we will cover the area. I will be up there as soon as I can get my mother back on her feet(Back surgery) so if you want to go with me or follow me we will plan a trip. To answer your question concerning the gift from the guys that won 75,00.00 on the spot I put them on. Not another word after they called me, thanked me for the help and said they were sending something for me. Hoping they call me back and ask for more help when they need it. I will help them, just hate it when someone pulls a stunt like that. Maybe it was lost in the mail. LOL ***For those that don't know the story. Two fishermen(I have never met) from Baton Rouge contacted me several days before the Sealy McDonalds Big Bass tournament in May on Sam Rayburn asking for some help as neither had ever been on the lake. I told them where to start and Sunday morning they caught the third place bass(10.51 lbs.) worth 75,000.00 in cash and prises. Monday after the tournament they called thanking me, asked for my address, and said they were sending something for my help. It really doesn't matter as I was not wanting or expecting anything in return. Just galls me that they would go through the trouble of offering and then not another word.*** Jack
  3. We have a winner! That little three letter word (MAP) will make all the difference. Study the heck out of it and it's like using a highway map or GPS while driving in unfamiliar territory. Without it you are just kidding yourself. The more time spent over it the more fish you will locate. It not only helps locating fish, it's a necessary tool to safely learn to navigate an unknown body of water. I rate it above any other item to use.
  4. A dealer can make you a set. I keep one in my billfold, one in the console of my truck, and one set on a floating key chain that has my truck keys on it.
  5. Our club has 36 members. Most own a boat and the arguments usually arise over which boat to use.
  6. Try the Caney Creek ramp. It is central to all the places I listed and the Black Forrest area is just a few miles north. Veech Basin is straight across the lake and Coleman & Five Fingers is south on the opposite bank. Don't forget the areas around the Caney ramp. Lots of good grass above and below the ramp area. Call me and I will put you on some GPS spots you can use to catch a lot of good fish. Jack
  7. I have not spent a dime on this. Gonna stay with what I got.
  8. One of my go to lures. Try it wacky style. Been fishing them since they first hit the shelves.
  9. Main lake points Creek channels Humps Grass Grass Grass
  10. I will solve a beaver problem too . Just pour it whever you see the critters trying to dam up. Just don't get caught. fines will be heavy.
  11. Spinnerbaits, Trick worms in watermellon red, 10" worms and brown/green jigs with just a touch of purple, Camo works well also. top water early on the inside grass line, and the rest on the outer grass line and out off the deeper points. Good grass in the following areas. Caney creek, Veech Basin, Colman Bay, Buck Bay, Needmore point, Five Fingers. It's like anything else though. there are specific spots in the grass and certain areas that you can miss if you are not familiar. Where did ya'll fish? If you put in at the Humphrey Pavillion I figure ya'll ran up Ayish Bayou toward Buck Bay. Let me know. Hopefully ya'll didn't run to Bear Creek. Those fish up there will break your heart. You just can't depend on them.
  12. Just be careful about sticking your fish prior to the tournament. I love it when guys tell me they caught a ton of fish the day or two before a tournament. You can go ahead and cross them off the contender list. If you know the lake well you probably don't need to prefish. What concerns me is your statement that you know what you will be throwing all day long. That is a gameplan for disaster.
  13. Just go fishing and don't worry about what everyone else is doing or riding in. You will be fine.
  14. Certainly not on my list of things to do. I have to get away from it at times. Don't even want to think about it.
  15. The dealers in this area state that there is nothing wrong with the bearing buddies, it's the owner. They pump too much grease in them, causing rear seal failure. We have two in the shop now for repair with the same problem. More is not better in this case. I will agree with you on that. Seems some people think you need to add grease before every trip. I'm luck if I pump grease into mine once every 3-4 months and then its only a pump or two at the most. A little preventitive maintenance and common sense goes along way!! That is exactly why you have not had any bearing failure. A little sense goes a long way.
  16. X3, I had every intention of replacing my LCX15MT units with the 5 and 7, but have now decided to either keep what I have or go with the bird.
  17. For the money get you a Humminbird 565.
  18. Time of year and the prevailing weather will depend on the type of lure I choose. If I think the fish(Summer time) will be offshore on the deeper points and river ledges I will pick a lure that most effectively allows me to cover the deeper depths and structure associated with that area. It's not always a plastic either. If the wind is up it is impossible at times to fish a plastic lure effectively. At times it will be a Mann's 30+ or DD22, not because it is the best, it just may be the only thing I can root around the cover at the deeper depths and have any kind of feel.

  20. Not sure if a switch is offered for that specific unit, but some of the older units had the option to install a switch that would allow the use of two transducers. Check with LEI, Inc., they can tell you if one is available. FYI, I have one of those units on my boat. You will like it. Very detailed information.
  21. I try to stay comfortable, but I always carry an extra, clean shirt. Never know when you will get blood or something else all over one.
  22. Man that about as bad as it gets. May have to have surgery to fix that. Tell us what happened, did you take it out or did he end up in the ER.
