Hammer23 the old docks are like a lot of other things. They are gone, but not forgotten.

Todays modern equipment
I would love to have one of the newer boats; however, I also love winning money out of my 1988 Skeeter Starfire 175 with it's 1982 Mercury 150 Black Max. It's not as nice as a new one and I have never had a draw partner complain about it. In fact they are amazed at how well it performs.

what temp do you start seeing beds?
Beds will show when the water temp hits 55-57** around here if the water , sun, moon, etc. is right. Lots of larger bass will come and be gone long before the temp hits 60* Surface temps can be several degrees warmer far back in the unreachable water than you are reading with your boat's equipment. The rocks, logs, and grass will absorb the sun causing the water temps around them to be 2-8* warmer than the water in the middle of the N.W. pockets and all along the upper reaches of a lake. The spawn will start in the upper reaches of a lake and move south as the sun warms the region.

So I was praticing in the backyard...
Never had that happen. That's funny though. FYI, if you are fishing out of a boat get yourself a foot stool to stand on while you practice. This will make you above the grass just about the height you would be above the water while standing in the boat. Makes for a more accurate pitch and flipping senario. If not you will find that your technique and timing will be off. Jack

Another state champion from Bass Resource
Congratulations guys. that was a great post. nice to hear how the younger crowd is doing. Just goes to show you those old farts don't know it all. An arse kicking is an arse kicking. Whether it's by one or ten, it just matters that you came out on top. Good job.

Whats A Fair Price To Have This Installed ??
Get in an area that you are familiar with and run across it to see what it looks like. Spend all the time you need to get the hang of it. Glad you decided to tackle the job yourself. Most of these things are not as hard as they seem. Now you can help one of your buddies when they need it. Congratulations

Bass Pro Shop surprise
Must be Allstars new "Broken in" line of rods. I'm personally not surprised at anything from them since the buyout. Another good company being shoved down the drain.

How to Co-Angle - Non-Angler?
With your attitude I can't imagine someone not wanting to take you out with them. You should have no problem getting all the rides you want.

Upgrading my Electronics
Are you talking about the SI upgrade or just a system upgrade?

Lake Ray Hubbard
I must have that disease. I told someone the other day it was 35 instead of 30. You would think I'd know better by now.. Thanks for correcting me. Would have hated for him to spend the day looking for the highway that was not there. LOL. Eastexasbassin, check out that brushtop. My borther-in-law and I put it out on New Years day 2007. It has six christmas trees and an old top out of a Bradford Pear tree that he had to remove due to some storm damage. I have caught a lot of nice bass out of it, but nothing larger than six pounds for some reason, and only one anywhere near that size. Maybe you can do better. Jack

tungsten bullet weights
I hate the price for True Tungsten weights, BUT, BUT, BUT, I like the feel I like the feel I like the confidence they give me over lead AND I pay the price as much as I hate to. My Academy store close to me quit carrying them because people were opening the packages and putting the weights in thier pockets and leaving without paying for them. That sucks!

Lake Ray Hubbard
My wife's sister and her husband live on the lake. I fish it about a dozen times a year including a few tournaments. Get you a map and contact me and I will point out the areas the you will get bit on. We stay above the I30 bridge when we fish and all you need to know is docks and rock. The highways that cross the lake(IH30 & State 66) all are lined with rock. If you go under 30 at Bass Pro Shop start fishing down the north side of the interstate moving east. It is easier if you launch at Dalrock Rd. ramp on the north side. There is a large oak tree 47 yards east of where you come under the interstate growing up in the rock and it hangs out over the water. The water falls off quickly all along the rock. I have a large brushtop planted out in 22' straight out from that tree that you can catch a lot of fish from with a worm and jig. Fish crankbaits in shad and Chartruse/blue, plastics in watermewllon/red off the edges of the rock banks and you will get bit. Do not try to run up the river toward the Lake Lavon dam unless your buddy knows it well. Just past the powerlines there is a shallow flat in the boat run that has a huge stump (It has destroyed many boats). Be very careful if you try this. Jack

So Yall Want To Learn Toledo Bend?
Catt would be the one to help you. He and I spent a couple of days last week on the lake, but he can give you a heads up on the largemouth. Lots of new water and the fish were scattered, but we did catch fish from 1-8' fishing wacky trick worms in watermellon/red and we caught a few on a ridge that toped out at 9' dropping off to 30'. The fish were positioned at all levels and we were getting bit on a brown 1/2 oz jig with a Zoom twintail grub that was green with blue specks in it. Caught a lot of small fish early fishing sandy banks, points, & we did better when we found the dark water along these banks. The darker water is caused when you have emerging grass growing on the bottom. If the bank was clean we just passed it up, or should have. Just get out there and throw smaller spinnerbaits (White/Chartruse), and a smaller trap in chrome/blue or any shad color and you will get bit. Jack

Upgrading my Electronics
Well when I started this thread I was convinced that Lowrance was the way I wanted to go. Now I am not sure. Lots of different views on this. If I decided to go with the Humminbird units I would need two. I would want an 1197 on the console. Should I go with the 997 for the bow or what. I like the larger screen, but due to the cost I am not willing to put one up front. What would be the best unit for the front and do I even need the SI on the bow? I think I would prefer it, but let me know what you think. I would be buying used as I am not willing to spend that kind of money for my boat if bought new. Anyone have either for sale? I will definately need two units. thanks, Jack 281 224-8853

Upgrading my Electronics
Well Mike, you are probably right. At least it would give me something to play with while on the water while going fishless. Jack

Upgrading my Electronics
I have decided to upgrade my electronics. I am torn between the Humminbird 1197 and the Lowrance HDS-10 units for the console. Up front I am not sure. Should I install another smaller side imaging unit or something like the HDS7 . Currently I have a Lowrance LCX-15MT and an X-96 on the console. I also have the Lowrance LCX-15MT up front. Anyone running the newer units please give me your input and likes and dislikes. Thanks, Jack FYI, these units will be for sale as soon as I make the switch.

COULD YOU BEAT KVD?
Everyone has a day when it just cannot be put together. Yes you can beat him one on one on a given day. The problem is he gets stronger as the days add up. You might get him one day, but after a three day deal he will usually put everything together and come out ahead. As for the one day chance I would go for it in a heartbeat.
