  1. Made it to the Memphis store tonight. The 7:00pm closing time makes it difficult, but I spent $30 and ended up with a few packs of Rage Tail craws, a pack of 7" annies, some net bait baby paca craws, berklely finesse worms, hooks, and a tube of megastrike!
  2. No it isn't. There's more stuff to fish with, but bass haven't evolved into a different animal. If you could catch them years ago you can still catch them now.
  3. Yep, we got them to build tools/machines with precision so that we can eliminate potential issues with using one's thumb as a drag. Using a quality reel's drag provides for a much more consistent release of line when necessary. No thought is required. Set the drag and forget it. There is also zero reason to tighten the drag down to achieve an effective hookset. It doesn't take near the pressure that people seem to think to drive a hook through a bass's mouth. Ike also annoys me when he "feeds the fish line". I can't think of a single reason why this would help at all. He's got a high quality reel that is more than capable of releasing the line as needed. "Feeding it line" is just a waste of time.
  4. Now THAT is some good humor!!! ;D
  5. No issues. 8-) I see, so if I had a reel where everytime I were to set the hook, the reel would engage a little even when I locked the drag down, I could safely say there's something wrong with the drag on that reel? You could also be setting the hook too hard.
  6. Interesting!!! I'm in Memphis this week. Is this the final week of the sale? If they are still open, I'll definately be making a visit to both stores.
  7. If you're replacing them anyways then why does it matter?
  8. The poor planning skills were that they didn't tell the person who was buying their gift to get them a gift card from TW instead of BPS.
  9. This method works very well!! Everyone should learn it and use it.
  10. Good news!! It's always better to get a discussion straight from the source rather than filtered through a summary article.
  11. The second quote is directly from the article linked in the original post. I wasn't trying to say that you wrote that. I was saying that the writer of the artice (the one the OP linked) said it.
  12. This is confusing. You sent in your reel to be cleaned and they sent you back a different reel? Why would they send you back a different reel if you didn't have any problems with your current reel? :-/
  13. [quote author=1726322B15282522353334470 link=1239807122/22#22 date=1239850702 If angling impacts nest success by catching the male (as the research in this case stated occurs) then one would expect a difference in relative success between HV and LV male bass. If LV bass fail to raise broods and HV succeed, there is selection at work, at the hands of anglers.
  14. Find where water is flowing into the lake/pond and fish it with whatever I have tied on. The feeding bass will move up there to eat whatever the water washes in. The bait doesn't seem to matter, draggin jigs, spinnerbaits, cranks, etc. It all works. I fish small ponds from shore so you big water fishermen may have differing tactics.
  15. I buy greens, browns, or blacks. Never really fish the blacks all that much though. But anything in a green or brown is good for me. Purple flakes, red flakes, black flakes, no flakes, whatever it's all good..
  16. I didn't think that there was one in Illinois. I've been to the ones near Memphis (I think they're both closed now) and they were nice. I'm way down in Plainfield, il I'm not big on colors, I just don't think it matters all that much, so I'd buy whatever I could.
  17. Where's the Sportsmans Warehouse in Chicago?!?!? Go back and buy every pack of craws that they have left. The chunks are good too, but I just pinch off a bit of the craw to make a chunk. However at 3.25 a pack I'd buy some chunks if I couldn't get enough craws.
  18. If you want a citica then buy one. Then you can either do one of two things just use the Citica as is. A 5.2 gear ration is most certainly not required for cranks. Or you can pick up a Curado 5.2 gear set and change the gears in the Citica. http://www.bassresource.com/bass_fishing_forums/YaBB.pl?num=1235245772
  19. I would also question the merit of the 3rd point. Sure the eggs/fry are eaten, but bass are prolific reproducers so the effects of destroying a few nests is neglible for the population overall. Another way to look at this is that the bluegill or other bass egg/fry predators are going to get their share of the hatch. Do they get the easy pickings because an angler pulled the male off the bed or do they have to work a bit harder to catch the errent fry? Overall the effect likely nets to near zero. The nesting effects point kind of sounds like the scientists opinion rather than part of the research. His research doesn't appear to have taken into account the actual effects on the overall population of bass when anglers fish during the spawn, instead he is taking a narrow point (effects on a single nest) and extrapolating that across the entire lake/population when his study did not cover that. Seems like a leap to me. The heriditary aspects of "catchability" is definately interesting though.
  20. I like their ratio...(One shot, one kill). Wonder if they will coutrmartial the guy that missed. No misses. The fourth hijacker had requested medical attention on board the navy ship. He went aboard and the seals had a shot at all three at the same time and took them all out. The one that was arrested was the one that requested medical attention and was not on the life boat.
  21. I wonder if it is possible over short distances. In the suburbs there are neighborhood retention ponds all over the place and many of these hold lots of fish. In a one mile square are you'll have numerous small ponds. Given the lack of people fishing (I never see anyone else) these it seems plausible that something else is spreading fish to these ponds. However, scientifically it seems like a reach that a bird will actually walk through a nest with eggs, get a number of those eggs stuck to its body, fly to another pond, and have those eggs drop there. All of this would have to happen without the eggs being damaged "in transit".
  22. I agree. I only fish small neighborhood ponds (don't have any idea on the deepest spots so I haven't responded too much to this thread). There are BIG fish in these ponds. Last fall I caught one that weighed nearly 7 pounds out of a small neighborhood retention pond. I'm convinced that this string of ponds holds some MASSIVE fish. The issues with pond fishing that I've found are lack of cover makes locating the "hotspots" a tough go. Little ponds are subject to many risks though. RW's pond is likely not completely dead, but may have experienced a large fish kill that will take a long time to recover from.
  23. When you click on the quote button in the thread (instead of the reply button) you'll get a quote author=XXXXXXX link=###### date=##### (where those X's is a string of letters and numbers which must represent a specific user). This displays the author and provides a link to the quoted post. I don't know if you can type a name there. The attempt is below. And no it doesn't work.
  24. But hooking them and pulling them out of the water is GREAT for them!!! :
