  1. I haven't tried it yet but I think there is access on Lime Kiln road off of Rt 15 north of Gilberts Corner. I know I passed what looks like parking areas but haven't had a chance to stop. Anyone tired here?
  2. Hey guys, Working this week in Marietta, PA and wondering how the Susquehanna is for smallies in this area. I have some light gear with me and am limited to the bank as I didn't tow the boat. I guess I have a few hours in the afternoon/early evening to hit some water and was wondering if there are opportunities in the area. I'm staying in York so I'm open to some travel for some fish. Is this part of the river wadeable? Any help is appreciated. Tight lines.
  3. Herculiner is good but the texture tends catch things and keep them around for a while. I like the Dupli-Color bed liner product for a more smooth finish plus it is a bit cheaper. You can usually find both at autoparts stores or Wally-World. Herculiner is about $90 for the kit and the Dupli-Color is about $60. Whatever you do, DO NOT take shortcuts on the application process. This stuff will peel from improper prep of material so follow the directions to a T. I have it in the interior of an off road truck and they both stand up very well. Wears like a pigs nose.
  4. I think I have the book you speak of. I found it useful but in hind sight I didn't really learn anything new from it that I couldn't readily find on the web for free. Check out the rigs on here and look at different sites of what other have done. If you are a handy bunch you will do just fine without the book. For $20 you can add a few gizmos or get a few good baits. Plus you can't get feed back from a book like you can on this forum. Just please search for answers before posting new questions. Some of this has been covered over and over and is easily found by searching this section. If you want more direction feel free to PM me. Would be glad to help. Oh, and welcome to the board.
  5. I'm unfortunately out of town this weekend so I can't make it. Let me know how you guys do and I'll make the next one. As for water temps...neoprene waders. I got the 3mm that let me fish with snow on the ground ;D. Worth the investment.
  6. I just fish leadcore line, that way i never get confused as to which state I show my fishing loyalty. It sucks for topwater by the way, unless you have a 20:1 speed reel.
  7. If you can tie your shoes you can do the wiring on a trailer. It's a one banana job. PM me if you need some help.
  8. Pool "noodles". Those things that kids play with in the pool. About 5 foot long and 3 inches in diameter. Find the ones with the hollow centers, cut a slit and put on the gunwales of the canoe. (you can use the solid ones but it's a lot more work) This way you can rest one side on the top of the car and slide it over to the other side without scrapes or scratches. Just make sure you put it on the side opposite of the radio antenna. Should be pretty easy with only a 15 footer.
  9. Fishing big lakes? small ponds? Rivers? streams? Give us some info and we can probably point you in the right direction. I've done a lot on a little bit of money as have some of the other posters. Oh, and welcome to the board.
  10. OK, what do you think about the options of disguising a waverunner/jet ski motor to look like a cooler/livewell in a jon boat? I will still have the 9.9 on the back. Might require some duct tape and some epoxy....maybe a few bungee cords, hole saw...Gotta go check out Craig's List.
  11. Good luck down there in Chincoteague. One word of advise, BUG SPRAY (ok, 2). I was just down there last Tuesday-Thursday and they are murder when the wind dies down. I'm not exaggerating either. Swarms of mosquitoes and biting flies. I would consider a head net too, especially on the bay side. June sounds good. I will be working on the James and Appomattox most of the month so a change of water might be nice on the weekends. Just have to see what kind of list the wife makes up for me.
  12. For those of you that know Lake Ridge Park you will get wet walking out on the dock on the boat ramp. The end is floating but to get on it you will have to wade through about 2 feet of water. There are two water logged trees that block the ramp also. Each is about 2.5 feet in diameter and 12-15 feet long. The path that goes to the rental boat area is also flooded but looks to be receding a bit. I bet all this water has switched up some of the wood that I regularly fish :'(. another sitekid, how was it navigating the debris? Was there a lot of wood floating in the main channel? You are a real trooper to get out there today.
  13. Haven't been down to the Rez yet to check it out. Lake Jackson was spilling some serious water this morning though. Super high, coffee with one cream and two sugars in color and a nice "froth" on top. Actually looked like someone put too much soap in the washing machine. From Rt 234 there was no island down stream and it looked like the flood plain was close to being breached. You are going to have a hard time finding fish in that soup. I would go big and loud. Oh, and keep and eye out for the trees that will be floating down stream. They can do a number on a lower unit. I'm out for the weekend and will hopefully the water will settle before vacation. Will update later when I head down to Lake Ridge Park to check out the water.
  14. There was no "bank" visible. I crossed it in the am and then again in the afternoon on 95. It was higher in the afternoon then in the am from what I recall. All you could see were water and leaves. No rocks, no tree trunks, no dry land. It looked like the river just reclaimed the flood plain and went on forever. Looked like it would be fun in a canoe! give it a good 10 days and with little to no rain you will be in business.
  15. Seeing the Rapp yesterday I would give it a week +. That water was moving yesterday. Or you could always go with a 24 oz weight and cast up stream and let the baits drift. But I would go with the waiting scenario ;D.
  16. I believe it's called swap out. Either you swap out sticker, carbs, powerheads (since 9.9-18 all kind of look alike) or if they have the $$ porting. I think porting is the last option as it costs the most. I just don't see how no one has questioned it yet. At $40 a pop times 30 or so boats that is a pretty good purse. Now if caught "cheating" with that kind of money on the line wouldn't that constitute larceny in VA. not to stir the pot or anyting (I don't fish them, just get swamped sometimes by those who do)
  17. If you run up past Bull Run Marina KEEP TO THE LEFT going under the bridge. I didn't >, enough said. I still need to check out the occoquan river arm. Just put on the 9.9 so now I have the ability without it taking all day.
  18. Had the same problem but in opposite, my side markers worked but nothing else did, it was the ground to the trailer frame that was bad. However there is a little trailer tool that is a must have for this. You need to get a $4.00 trailer test light for the truck end of the connection. It looks like the trailer end but has 3 LEDs on it that will indicate what is and is not working on the truck. Lot less trouble then pulling it all apart. http://www.amazon.com/dp/B0009PS9UO?smid=A18S2VA36NY5VY&tag=nextag-sports-mp-20&linkCode=asn You can get one at Wally Word or auto parts stores and the like. While you are out get some dielectric grease. You can use the same stuff you use on spark plug wires and it will protect against corrosion. I keep a tube in the glove box.
  19. X2 on the shrimp. I have a few spots that I can go and catch cats all day on shrimp. Frozen or fresh, they all work well.
  20. I think you all just need some gynolotramin and get over yourselves already. Starting to sound like the Oprah book club on here.
  21. I have a 1436 and I can tap dance on it. I have a leaning seat that I keep there when I fish 9-12 hour days but it's stable. I'm 5'11" and 230. Just be careful when hitting that trolling motor in the front. If it's on high it will give you a wiggle ;D. You just need to get out and try it. It will take a little getting used to but not a big deal.
  22. hit it with a weak base like baking soda. It shouldn't have an effect on the plastic though. Your battery is made of plastic too. But the baking soda will make it easier/safer to clean up.
  23. Saw a show featuring a company out of Australia called EngineAir R&D that developed a rotary air engine. Apparently the motor only needs 1psi to overcome friction so most of the compressed air will go to power and isn't lost to heat and such. It was developed for fork lifts and carts in gigantic produce warehouses to keep indoor air quality in check. Only time before it hits the market. I think they stated that a normal "charge" will last for several hours. But I don't know what kind of air consumption or at what pressure you would need to run it.
  24. Just wait a few years and the carp will become a "game fish". It's been big in Europe for a long time and is almost exclusive in the UK. Yes, they have other fish species but carp tend to be the target species of choice for most fisherman. I've been noticing more and more articles in main stream US outdoor publications regarding angling for carp. I think it's going to be the new resource for tackle and bait companies to market. If you have never fished for them it can be pretty tough at times. Keep an eye out for a carp tournament near you!
  25. Picture 2 has the bench cut out, thus loosing flotation should you take on water. I did mine like FishingBuds and made the front deck the same height as the bench. If I were to do over I think I would just sacrifice that extra 1/2-3/4 inch and run the deck over (i.e. resting on) the front bench and go to the front mini seat. less seams in the carpet and less of a place for debris to collect.
