  1. If you have to go through all this, what's the point?? I use braid for most applications, but for Crankin and sight fishing, I want to learn to manage flouro. I guess that's the nature of the beast. If I have something that's difficult, I try to work on it until I get it. ajr
  2. Well.... What are the proper knots for flourocarbon?? I have had horrible luck with various flourcarbon lines. I have had the line snap on more than one occasion and not always at the knot. I will continue to try this season, working on it with BPS XPS Flourocarbon and KVD Line and Lure. ajr
  3. Thanks guys!!! Keep the ideas and comments coming. I am printing them up for my buddy and or the repair man!! Alan (bassnajr)
  4. Brief list: 1. Live well aeroater cuts on and off as well as the live well automatic fill switch. (This bothers me the most!) 2. Display on the dash...tachometer, horn... 3. Power to the Lowrance antenna. (external) 4. Lights front and back. I'll think of more......
  5. Hey all... Last year my buddy and I purchased the above boat. It runs like a dream and is great to fish from. It has a Johnson 175 HP motor (2004) on it which is not the original motor (original was a 225 HP Mercury). It needs cosmetic work (seats and carpets need to be re-done) but my main concern is the electrical system. The previous owners cut into the wiring to rig up the Johnson engine and left the Mercury harness there wrapped up in tape. We have had some electical problems (minor, if there is such a thing when you're out on the water!!) with the boat, and my buddy seems to think that there may be shorts in the wiring from the engine swap out. We are planning on putting in some new Lowrance units front and back, but I don't want continued problems with the electric system. I asked at BPS if they could re-wire the boat and they said sure...but I am sure it would be long dollar!! has anyone here every re-wired their boat themselves?? Is it somehing best left to a professional, or is it a do it yourself job?? My buddy has some electical experience, but not on boats. Any constructive help or advice would be appreciated!! Alan (bassnajr)
  6. 7' e21 M spinning rod older version Daiwa Capriciorn spinning reel with 10 lb. PowerPro braid no leader. Eagle Claw or Gamakatsu circle Octopus hooks 3/0...4/0 (so they don't swallow them!!!) I use *** 5" stick baits without a doubt..... I have used GY, Kinami, Tiki stick, and Shaw Grigsby by SK, as well as "others". I went through them all last year and the best for value and catching power is ***......no joke. ajr

  8. Vanilla Ice......too much!!!!!! ;D ;D ;D
  9. Sorry I missed you Matt.... Hope all goes well with you Dad. I'll be seeing you soon. Alan
  10. I do agree with Tuckman that at one time FLW was considered by many as the "AAA" (Minor leauge) ball club of the B.A.S.S. Elite Series. I feel that this will change soon. I am not a statistics guy, but from watching both groups, it does appear that the weights are much higher for B.A.S.S. than F.L.W. Correct me if I'm wrong. ajr
  11. What about this years Elite series schedule??? Down from 11 to 8 tournaments with 2 "Post Season" AOY events. Anglers, according to Gerald Swindle (BASS Magazine 2/2009) "will be paying the same entry fees for less events and less chances to win." Some anglers sponsorships are down %40 from last year. I bet will see more of the Elite anglers on the F.L.W. Tour, but how will F.L.W. be affected??? Comment??? ajr
  12. No not ramps just...just keeping them maintained. The ones we have were probably put in around 1960!!! We need new ramps!!!!! ajr
  13. Matt...I missed you...I looked for you and your Dad...no go!!!! ajr
  14. LC Pointa.... I tried deadsticking a worm, no bites. I've also tried a jig, jerkbait, lipless crank, spinnerbait, shakey head (painfully slow) and a few other things. Nothing. Come to think of it, the only thing I haven't tried is my swimbait again. I caught a 5 lb. LMB on it in very cold water (no ice around it, granted) right before the snow came this fall, so I'll get back to you again!!! ajr
  15. Hey all... I called BPS. Tim Horton will be there between 3:00 and 5:00 pm for "meet and greet and seminar." Hope to see a few guys there!! ajr
  16. Great Matt... I hope you Dad is OK. I called BPS. Tim Horton will be there between 3:00 and 5:00 pm for "meet and greet and seminar." Hope to see a few guys there!! ajr
  17. I am not cheapskate...but $20.00 for a new un-tested bait??? It looks alot like a Lucky Craft, so minus the laser, I would probably go with LCs for right now or for the shallow cranks, a Manns minus. I'll keep an eye on IKE and see how he does with them.
  18. I'll be there Cigarlover..... I posted in another thread about Timmy Horton being there doing a crankbait seminar. I called ahead to make sure he was feeling weill enough to be there. ajr
  19. UPDATE: Tim Horton and Brent Chapman were both at BPS Foxboro today and both were great to the folks there. Brent spoke mostly about the Classic and the fishing on the Red River. Tim gave a 30 min. seminar on cranking basics and told the story of his win on Champlain and the "Pizza Story." I was surprised to see both guys walk around the store with folks who asked for there advice and opinions on rods, reels and lures etc. I was more surprised that not a lot of people showed up. Several people stopped me and asked "Who are these guys?" Bass fishing in new England I guess!! : A few photos for those interested:
  20. THE ASSOCIATED PRESS Published: February 25, 2009 PROVIDENCERhode Island will receive more than $6 million to help preserve the state's fish and wildlife populations. The federal fundsmore than $4 million from a sport fish restoration program and about $2 million from a wildlife restoration programwill go to the state's Department of Environmental Management. 21. Gottcha Tin... They are funky!!! ajr
  22. CWB.. I gave it a few good "wacks" no go!! Back to BPS with it I guess. The other one I bought is fine. Strike King makes some nice products with good pros to back them up and I like the price but, I wish they would put a little more quality into the baits....just my opinion..
  23. OK... So the ice is melting and I have a small area I can fish from the bank. Tried one of my new 3/4/ oz. SK Red Eye Shad and the thing is coming back to me on it's side??!! I tried it on a spinning rig and a casting rig and with and without the "O" ring on. Same response. I don't really see how this bait could be "tuned" but ?? Any ideas????? ajr
