Why Are Spinnerbaits So Popular During Pre-Spawn??
Spinnerbaits are not an "idiots bait". As LBH stated there is more to SB fishing than throw and reel. Blade size and type, skirt color, bait size, etc. Just like with jigs, there's more to the story. They are a good bait in the wind, points, grass beds (get 'em caught, and pull 'em off!!).....I fished yesterday and went through 3 SBs until I found the right size and color. The fish wanted LARGE SBs with gold willow blades. Also, history shows many big fish are caught on spinnerbaits.

St. Croix "MOJO" casting rods what's the word??
What kind of Dick's sells G Loomis rods???? NOT THE ONE NEAR ME!! Guys, I paid $89.00 for the Mojo I bought today. Far cry from a $250.00 Loomis or a $150.00 Carrot. I am going out tomorrow and will get a good read on this rod. Seems like you love 'em or hate 'em!! ajr

St. Croix "MOJO" casting rods what's the word??
Hey all.... Went out to BPS today looking for a Daiwa L+T jig rod but no go. Instead I found a St. Croix MOJO MH 7' rod...the only one left. According to BPS staff, these rods are flying off the racks!!! Anyone used one yet? What's the buzz on these?? Seems like a nice stick for the price..... ajr

How would you fish this scenario?
I would mix the crank and spinnerbait up and try a jerk bait as well. You didn't say how deep the area is you are fishing so.....try also tossing a small jig with a small trailer (Bitsy Jig??). I do the same thing from shore....it's peaceful huh??? ajr

Question regarding Lowrance skimmer transducer intereference???
Hey all... I start out by saying I think I know the answer but...... The skimmer transducer on my trolling motor snapped at the bracket. I have another on order. In the mean time, what is the best way to set the skimmer up with minimum interference??? I believe that a metal O ring around the ducer will interfer, but I don't know about say electrical tape or a rubber bungee. Jump in with opinions, answers, or ideas!!! ajr

Charlie Moore TV
He is an entertainer...NOTHING MORE!!! The "Harlem Globetrotter" of the new England fishing world if you will. He is like an auto accident. You don't want to watch, but find yourself stopping on the channel to gawk. Watch him or don't.......no biggie!! ajr

Will the spawn in Rhode Island (any maybe all NE) be screwed up again this year!!
Hey all..... With the continued sucky weather, I feel the spawn will again be screwed up this year as it was last year. Is anyone seeing differently in the NE area?? In my local pond, the fish are in different staging areas and then when a cold front comes through, the go deep again. No beds to be seen as of yet. Let's have some pre-spawn reports fishing dudes!!!! ajr

I have seen to many otherwise great people have their lives ruined for drinking and driving...don't do it!!! Actually, I believe most T's don't allow alcohol on the boat..I might be wrong but???? IMVHO Peace! ajr

Lucky Craft
X2 on hootcrazed on E-Bay.... I bought one LV (ghost minnow) .......jury is still out. I also got a couple of "proto-type" lures for a few dollars. JUNK!! ALWAYS check the feedback before you bid. The folks I buy my LCs from have 100%. ajr

I love F.L.W. and Charlie Evans but come on!!!!!!!
Is it me or does Charlie Evans look like......

Lucky Craft
X2 Natural.... The Dick's near me didn't stock them. I had coupns up the ying-yang, Score Card bucks, but no L.C.s I agree, you can find top shelf baits, but you have to look. I just got 6 different L.C.s on E-Bay for $10.00 average per bait from a US seller. There are some sellers from Japan, and the price is good, but you wait forever for them to get here. Shop CLEARANCE!!! This time of year here in the NE area, Dick's, Sports Authority etc. are getting rid of last years left overs. I got friendly with the sales folks and they let me know when the stuffs going on clearance. Lots of folks don't have time for this kind of shopping, but it saves hundreds over a season, and gives bums (lol) like us a chance to use upscale baits!!! ;D ajr

Lucky Craft
I just started using them They are impressive...well made, SUPER sharp hooks, just real quality products. They are expensive though. What I suggest is do what I did. Buy one that lends itself to a technque you have confidence in. (Shallow crank, lipless crank, jerkbait, etc.) Check the quality for yourself and see what you think. Also ask for BPS gift cards at X-Mas/ B-days and use those for the "expensive" stuff. Good luck!

Pics of my new boat!

Becoming a Professional Bass angler...is fishing talent enough??
Hey all.... I have read on these forums many folks asking about becoming a pro bass fisherman, submiting their resumes, etc. aiming high at their dream. I must say at the beginning that I have no illusion about becoming a bass pro. I am too old anyway!!!! I know local guys who have more fishing talent in their right pinky than most of us have in our entire bodies....but they can't make it to the "Big Show", whatever level that may be in their world. I equate it to golf, as I do many things...I have personally known guys who made it to the PGA tour, but couldn't hold on. Others who never made it, but are way better golfers than some people we watch on TV every week. I guess what I am asking/saying is this: In the big scheme of things, is having money, connections, personality, (charisma) available time on the water, and a money backer along with being an adequate/good fisherman more important than pure talent???? Opinions, comments????? :-? ajr

Saw an interesting thing today...
I saw an area, not a defined bed by bed standards, but like you said, he could have been getting an area ready, going through the motions.

OK .... I think I am pretty much done with flourocarbon lines!!!!
I worked them the same way Bernie. So, you would think that the fish might be "spooked" by the big length of braid attached to the Senko...they weren't. Again not an official test, but it told me something!!!
-
What if............
This is a great question.... I believe that natural talent, like in any sport is first. I have heard of local guys who have "a touch" in setting the hook, feeling a bite, etc. No Lowrance unit can give you this. Bass fishing in general is a huge mathematical equation: weather, cover, water temp, water clarity, local forage, an on and on. The person who is best at figuring out the equation will be the best fisherman, professional or not. Intuition and being observant along with experience, adaptability, and being proficient in all areas of fishing techniques is also a key. How many guys do you know who are great at say, jig fishing, or cold water fishing, that strike out at finesse situations. Being good at many techniques can be better than be great at two. All this being said, time on the water is the most important factor in becoming the best you can be. All this in my very humble opinion!! Alan (bassnajr)

OK .... I think I am pretty much done with flourocarbon lines!!!!
Bernie, I set up two rigs for senkos and plastics...one all braid, one with a flouro leader. Used them for about a week. I saw no significant difference in fish catch totals. Not scientific but??? I can see flouro/ leader for bed fishing or some finesse applications.

OK .... I think I am pretty much done with flourocarbon lines!!!!
I am now trying Seagur...we'll see........

Braided lines for Light weight spinning.
One thing I don't understand????? Folks say flouro is more resistant than braid.... If that is the case, why do you need special scissors to cut braid but not flouro??? (And KIDS scissors at that!!!! lol) ;D ajr
-
Braided lines for Light weight spinning.
I can see that, but I am a line watcher...always checking the knots or for wear. Flouro frays as well..... I am more for the ease of use VS. amount of fish caught, that's why I posted another thread just on FLOURO!!!! ajr

Braided lines for Light weight spinning.
Regarding flouro leaders on light braid...... Last summer I did a week long "test" ....Power Pro with and without a leader for plastics fishing, mostly Senkos, worms, etc. I experienced NO DIFFERENCE in fish catches...there were virtually identical. Was this scientific, no, but it was good enough for me. Fishing bedded fish, I can see mono or flouro, or a long flouro leader. Other than that, any time I can I will use braid. The brand is your preference, but I like Power Pro. Gonna pick up some of that ultra light stuff!!!!! ajr
