Big-O

I don't fish Senko style baits but have found that Red Shad is a versitile color for flipping and or dragging the bottom with worms, and I rarely throw it in clear bright conditions unless I'm fishing deeper water. Have also been very successful at night with it...go figure. It's a thick color that will silhouette better than other translucent colors. Are you fishing it weightless... It could be that where you're fishing, this color is better suited for slightly quicker fall through the water column or bottom bumping. I wouldn't give up or dicard them but moreover find their best usage for your area Big O www.ragetail.com

When I fall out of the boat, I wished I would have been sitting down and if I think my hook set might have been a little weak, I wished I would have been standing up ;D If you have a stable deck to fish from....standing is probably more effective for casting or fishing most presentations. Even Live bait casting and hook sets might be improved while standing. But when I was young, I fished Fla. for several years and mostly nights from 10 and 12 ft john boats but elected to stay seated for safety....far too many Alligators keeping an eye on me out there ;D And during this time I was able to adjust to fishing while seated and really never noticed any big problems that caused a noticable challenge to it. Soak and scrub the area with hot soapy water let sit for a minute and vacuum...repeat, repeat, repeat. Vacuum moisture for an extended length of time then let sun dry and apply auto deodorant....It's very important to keep the windows down outside in the heat for as long as possible after cleaning. Remove the skirt from a jig and thread a Rage Shad on it with tail up making sure it's aligned straight on the hook so that it runs true. Jigs with trailer keepers and longer hooks like the Hack attack work well for me. You can also trim the sides of the shad off slightly and thin it down some for smaller profile. A 3/8 to 1/2 oz is my standard because I like the larger profile most of the time and fish it a little deeper, so I will often leave the body as is. This bait makes a nice wobbling swim jig application and can be retrieved quick similar to a spinnerbait but it's shorter with total bait movement. I also use it at night in place of spinnerbaits. Doesn't tangle in the grass quite as bad and set the hook just like a jig fish. Big O www.ragetail.com

I use them exclusively when flipping and casting and they are EXCELLENT. The only other jigs I use are Football and rattling Pro models when the times call for'em. Sharp strong hook and Great hook up % too. Big O www.ragetail.com

Also rigging the Tail pointing down when I'm dragging or set up on a weighted hook...but flipping or Jumping it off the bottom, tail up works great. When the fish are looking for a smaller or short thin profile for flipping, I shorten to about 6 " and clip the score line on the tail Big O www.ragetail.com

Here's a link that covers the rigging for the 10" Thumper. http://www.ragetail.com/Thumper.html I am using 6/0 Stroker by Moaner Hooks or a 5/0 Owner round bend off set. Will use as light of weight as possible depending on the wind and depth conditions, from 1/4 to 1/2 oz normally. When fishing the top of grass, I rig it weightless or swimbait hook (keel weighted) with Thumper tail pointed down. Any time the head of the worm wears out, pinch it down to make it shorter. Also notice there is a score or cut line on the tail of the Thumper. When cut as shown, the tail action changes from a circular swim to a side to side flapping motion providing a faster more aggressive flicker rate. Hope that helps Big O www.ragetail.com

Just to clarify the line is called Lake Fork Parallelium Pro and Fork is in East Texas so there are no bandito problems there to contend with ....I rarely fish it during the day to avoid the traffic. Falcon Lake is on the border where the drug problems and gangs have recently been reported but things are settling down now. I fish it often as well but nights at this point are out of the question so I am concentrating on other lakes like Choke Canyon just South of San Antonio. I do wish I had one of those 50 cal's for whackin' a few of the Water Turkey's though Hit a big fish last night but she pulled me in a deep tree before I could get her into the river channel. I bet that fish will eat a Big Worm T or C rigged. Keep the weight light and try your best not to make alot of water disturbance with your casts. Small bodies of water are much easier to give your presence away than larger lakes. Another bait that will get bit is the Eeliminator C rigged, again light weight like 3/16 to 1/4 max. Tip the tail w/chartreuse if in daylight hrs. With artificials, it's all about Presentation and Patience....Start of course wherever she tried to smoke the Gill and fish the entire area extremely slow and make sure to cover every inch of the water several times....then cover it again I would also choose early morning or late evening-early night to make my move. I would say slow down when fishing your soft plastics, easing them along the bottom at a snails pace. Many fish feel the bait around them before they actually see it and if you have already moved it out of their comfort zone, they'll often disregard it. Fish that aren't actively feeding at any given time will still eat if you provide them with the right opportunity. That is usually a bait that eases right into their safe zone and and says "BITE ME" And when they feel something crawling along the bottom near them, they will often take the time to ck it out....so I try to give'em the time This style of fishing will also allow you to feel the variety of bottom structure that any given area has to offer. Once the bite comes, you know what the fish are relating to and can reproduce your effort more easily. Hope this helps Big O www.ragetail.com

Glad you like'em MMan and pls. notice that Micro is often rigging the Monkey on a weighted hook. This is one of the best rigs ever for subsurface shallow grass and will work on most all high action Softies, and possibly some you're talking about getting rid of...so keep'em around friend, you'll find a use for'em in time Just let the bait fall and settle, then ease it forward a foot or so at a time by slowly lifting your rod tip, maintaining constant contact with the grass...Slow, Slow. This is one of my favorite ways to rig the 7" and 10" Anacondas They won't bury in the grass this way but you'll most likely bury it in a big fish's mouth this way Big O www.ragetail.com
