They sleep but can wake up and smack a bait in an instant if it's presented correctly. I have found that when the bite slows, I have always been more productive if I slow down as well and tune in more to their security zones than to their feeding areas. This doesn't mean that the fish move far away but merely find a secure area to settle into for some quiet time or SLEEP. These fish can be very predictable and the proper bait easing down right in their quiet zone will Git Bit They are opportunistic feeders....kinda like me ;D Some call this "grinding out the bite" because it can be a slow and arduous process. X2 and if there are grass beds in your water, focus on the tops and or edges of the deeper grass. During high sun daylight, they'll tend to bury in or under it but at night they are more likely to be on or near the top of the grass as well as on the outer edges. Running a spinnerbait typical to the one CJ mentioned and a big worm that has plenty of action and vibration on a weighted hook or light T rig that will primarily stay on the top of the grass, will be very productive. At night, I use the lightest weight possible depending on the wind for grass. In heavily fished waters the fish seem to feel a bit more secure and will stray from their hiding a little more, so you can make a few mistakes on precision flips or casts to stick ups and other fish holding structure and still get the bites. Top waters are excellent as well but I fish weedless types like Buzz style Toads and Shad to avoid grass fouling in the case that I throw it up the salad This is the month that I start fishing almost exclusively at night Big O www.ragetail.com

The Eeliminator is a C rig MacDaddy Tip the Tail with Chartreuse Jj's....Darker colors like Watermelon/red or Green Pumpkin and Black/Blue are best for this. When you run the lighter colors as a top water and the slow wobble isn't getting the strikes, move it med-quick retrieve similar to the Rage Toad, if the fish strikes and misses it, just slow to a crawl or kill it completely and let'em come back and load up on it. If the Annie loses the tip of it's tail, keep fishin it...it still catches'em like that. If it is ripping at the base of the hook, be careful not to whip the end of the rod on your cast as that's why the majority of the tears in that area are caused. My Oh My, "We gotta stop meeting like This" ;D One of my boys Matt, and I got loose Tues. at Noon and we made a run for it, "Straight to the Lake" When we got on the water, the wind was doin' bout 20 and the place was ROCKIN. We decided to ck out a couple of new spots that I marked last trip as they were on protected somewhat from the wind gusts. We started out tossing 10" Thumpers and Lobsters because those were the favorite table fare last time and I was sure "They didn't get their Fill" We hit several nice sized fish and each of us were grinning from ear to ear. Matt lost a big one at the boat and that evening we got all the info we needed for the next day. Got an early start Wednesday, the winds were right and we whooped'em pretty good until the lake went slick at 2:00pm and that along with the 100 degree heat drove us off the water till about 5:00. This is when our relationship with Ms. Bass got much more intense...The wind had improved to about 10 mph, giving just enough chop to get things stirring. There were fish breaking all around but we knew the ones we were after were on the bottom at the grass edges. We placed the Lobsters and Thumpers in strike Zone and those Gals obliged with some Fancy Water Dancin' n 'Stuff We were extremely thankful for another good time on the water and just wished we could've stayed longer....BTW, Matt brought plenty of refreshment to keep us hydrated and we had a few left to Toast our good fortune

Might use a heavy wire hook and be sure not to bow the back upward when you skin hook it. The belly should be bowed downward similar to a boat bottom for best results. Also a 1/16 oz weighted hook will help as well as add distance to your cast. Big O www.ragetail.com
