  1. I have been trying quite a few different lines, the most recent being Gamma co-polymer. I am looking for a line that works equally well using any of my lures. So far I am impressed with the Gamma on my spinning reel. I am using 8# test in lo-vis green. I caught a bunch of lmb today from a local golf course pond using everything from poppers to cranks to soft plastics. I was satisfied with the Gamma's performance no matter the lure I was using. Last night I tried Sufix Elite and while it handled even better than the Gamma I had trouble getting used to the stretch of the mono. I think the co-polymers may be the right line for me. I have Yo-Zuri Hybrid Ultra Soft on my baitcaster and that is also some nice line.
  2. dmac14, I am from Rochester too. Have you fished in this area very long? I just got started back with fishing last summer so I don't have a lot of good locations figured out yet. Tight Lines

  4. Sorry here is #2
  5. I thought I attached some pictures with that post.
  6. My oldest son and I spent some time at one of my favorite local ponds today. Besides the pleasure of spending time with Jared we were rewarded with these two beauties.
  7. I live in Rochester NY near Lake Ontario. My work brings me through Erie Pa and my family lives near Cleveland Ohio. I am a non-boater but would love the opportunity to fish with and learn from some fellow anglers.
  8. Caught 5 decent LM after dark with a black/black Cavitron on Saturday night, lots of fun. ;D
  9. Hello All! Rochester here.
  10. Tackle Warehouse has a couple of models marked down to $85.88. I bought one as my first baitcaster and I have been pleased with how easy it is to use.
  11. Hawgchaser: Yes I would say it is more limp than Fireline. I have not tried any others yet but I have heard good things about the two you mention.
  12. Now for that unscientific review I mentioned. This is only my second experience with braid. My first was with Fireline Crystal. Two things I didn't like about Fireline was how visible it was in the water and how it began to fray after some use. I am now using Rapala Titanium stretch braid in 10# test on my spinning reel. It states that it has 5% stretch. I think what initially got my attention was the combination of green and black fibers. I had recently read Dr. Hannon's advice about using a marker to create hash marks on your line to break up the continuity making the line less visible to the fish. My thought was that this line was perfect in that regard. I have fished with this line probably 10 times so far and it has performed very well for me. I have been fishing very clear ponds to this point. I have used it for every lure in my box including poppers, cranks, jerkbaits, spinnerbaits and soft plastics and have not had any issues. The green fiber is starting to fade just a little but there has been no fraying at all. Last evening I was dragging LMB through some pretty heavy weeds with no breakage. I will continue to use it and buy more when the time comes. I found it at Gander Mtn. and though I can't remember the exact price I do remember thinking it was very reasonable compared to other braid lines. I give Rapala Titanium stretch braid a humble thumbs up!
  13. ...little help please: My work takes me to the northeast Ohio area once a week. Is there anywhere that I can fish from shore and have a chance of catching one of those Lake Erie Smallies I keep reading about? ;D Thanks!!!!
  14. I need some help please: This year my work takes me to northeast Ohio once a week. Is there anywhere in the Conneaut/Ashtabula area that I can fish from shore and have any chance of catching one of these Lake Erie Smallies I keep reading about? ;D Thanks!!!
  15. Do some homework and you will find that prices can vary quite a bit. A supplier may have the best price on the Griffons but not the best price on say the Vision 110. I did a lot of checking until I felt I had a good idea of what I could get a particular lure for and then started watching the E-bay auctions. Dozens of new items get listed everyday so don't over pay because if you lose out on the lure you want be patient and you will get another chance. I bought more Megabass lures than I care to mention this winter (curse you Bait Monkey) but "saved" anywhere from 10% to 40% on each item. Good luck! The gloomis site has a great selection but you can easily find better prices.
  16. I am glad to hear the positive responses. I invested in some this winter and I am anxiously awaiting the chance to try them out. I can say the detail and quality are excellent.
  17. Did you pick these up from a seller calling himself Basscat2000? I ask because I picked up a Deep-X 100 and a spool of Sunline FC Sniper line and I know he had some other Sunline and Megbass product on auction. Small world...maybe.
  18. At my local Gander Mountain I saw some inexpensive rod holders made by Berkley. There was one for vertical mounting and one for horizontal mounting. I believe each set would hold four combos. They looked nice enough and were in the $10-$15 price range. I plan on picking a couple up soon.
  19. KB he can have the best of both worlds. BPS sells a Shimano Citica coupled with a BPS Extreme rod. Maybe the best value combo that there is. The Citica is probably the best BC value for the money of almost any rbrand out there. 2008 BPS catalog shows $169.99 everyday price. I think the Citica/Extreme combo is a very good choice. I picked one up a month or so ago and I am very impressed with the quality of the rod and you can't go wrong with a Shimano reel. I also believe you can still get a $30 rebate from Shimano on the reel.
  20. Has there been any more thought to doing something like this?

  23. I have only had the opportunity to fish these for a very short time on a very cold day before the ponds started freezing over so I can't say much about the fish catching ability of this jig. In regard to the skirt however, when they come out of the package the skirt needs to be rotated about 180 degrees because of the forward design of the skirt. It is basically a half skirt because if it were full it would constantly be up under the the fulcrum or flat part of the weight. Think of it as rotating the skirt so that it covers the hook and weedguard (on top of the jig) versus covering the underside of the fulcrum which will not be visible to the fish anyway and would make it difficult for the jig to rest flat on the bottom. I am not saying this is good or bad but I am reading a lot of questions about the skirt issue so thought I would offer my two cents. I hope this makes some sense as it is a little difficult to explain without a demonstration.
