Alabama boating regs?
AL boating laws are pretty basic. There are no extreme requirements such as flares, flags etc., at least that I am aware of. Of course I have never been checked, may get surprised one day. Anyway, just the basics. By the way, you can buy your license on line through the Dept. of Natrual Resources. Reasonable cost on license.

spro bronzeye or bigfoot frog?
I have never used the bigfoot, I used to date one but that is story for another post. I have had good success with the Spro. It does float and casts well. The hook set up is far better than many of the other brands. The back is flat and not contoured like other brands so when they crush it you will have a very high hook up rate. I really like the black one in stained water. It is awesome in the spring. They really eat it.

lake guntersville 3/17-3/22
The grass will still be thin, but starting to grow. Actually it is greening up some now. You should find some post spawn fish in the upper end but the spawn should be just getting going by then. Check the moon phase for your trip, that may give you a good starting point. The colors for jigs are green pumpkin with some red. Senkos will be a good consideration by then (Green Pumpkin/red). The spinnerbait should do well also. White and white/chartruese. Red traps and small red crankbaits are good options as well. The grass will not be matted that early so 3/8 to 1/2oz jigs should work fine. If you need some lodging info for the area or any thing else shoot me a pm and I will try to help you out. I will be there next week for 4 days. The water temps are increasing slightly, low to mid 50s now depending on depth. This may be affected by the weather. Fronts really makes things tough for a day or two. You may see temps in upper 50s by then. Plan to fish flats off of the creeks. If your trip covers the weekend, expect company, especially if someone sees you catch a fish. Weekdays are not as bad. Crow Creek on the north end may receive less pressure.

Skippin with a baitcaster
Good info. I would add using heavy line 17 or larger. The back-lashes will come, this line is easier to pick out and does not make such a big mess. Tape is a big help.

Guntersville Lake, AL
Guntersville has been a little skitzo lately with the fluctuations in the weather. Water temps have been increasing lately. We have found it from 51- 55 depending on where you go. The fish seem be on the verge of moving up. Kinda like sitting on go, just waiting for the flag, ie just a little more consistently warming weather. Red traps and jerkbaits have been the deal when the brief bite is on. Mudd Creek is north of So Sauty.Heading N on Hwy 35 (I think, it may be 72 heading towards Winchester TN.) You will cross Mudd Creek.

Guntersville Lake, AL
Concerning your question about Mud Creek ramps, there is a good ramp right off highway 72. Going north towards TN. you come to a small road that veers off to the ramp. If you miss it and make it to the bridge flip around the other end of the road comes out near the bridge. You should find a lot of post spawn fish by then as well as some still on the beds. There are two other creeks in that general area that are worth checking out; Crow and Raccoon. We have been fishing some lately preparing for a tournament coming up in a couple of weeks. As we progress in our trips I plan to post some info for the group planning to come down in March. By the way if you are planning to stay in Scottsboro area you should consider the Jameson Inn, very clean and reasonable rates. Good luck.

What's left in ATL area?
Hey Chris, there is a really great place downtown. The water level is always full and the fish are huge. One caution though, the folks at the Atlanta Acquarium get a little fussy if you don't practice catch and release.

Advice on Guntersville, please
this may be a repeat. I am not sure if the first went through. I was attempting to send some feedback on Guntersville. I have a friend tht was there last week and caught a lot of fish on the Series 3 Sexy Shad crankbait around the Goosepond area. That is the lake that made that color famous by KVD. Goose pond is just south of Comer bidge. The grass is thinning on the lake. Our club was there a couple of weeks ago. Some did well waking a spinnerbait and others caught fish on buzz baits. Expect clear water near the river. You should find a little color back off the river. No mud or heavy stain. Red traps are good options as well. The water temp should be around 58-60 degrees. I live about one and half hours away. We have been catching fish on topwater on other area lakes so I would give that a try as well. I hope this was helopful. This is my first post on this site so I am unfamiliar with the navigation. If you have questions feel free to give me a call. I have a friend who lives there and may have some current info. 256-452-8090. Good Luck, Richard
