this is a reel you obviously have an affinity with. you should get it and not look back.

Need help picking out a new baitcaster for cranks/flipping
imo, you need two different rods. the cbr845 is as good an all round tip-down rod as any...cranks, spinners, jerks...it does it all well. for the heavier jigs, spinners and frogs you mentioned, the mbr 844 is as good as any...once you get over 1/2 oz., the 3 power mbr is just a tad too light here, imo. you can crank with the mbr844 if you crank large but, you ain't gonna like fishing jigs on the cbr845. if you just want a rod that you can crank with, spinnerbait with and jig with at under 1/2 oz., then i would recommend the mbr "3". a better all around rod (for under 1/2 oz, ) was never made...imo.

Old tackle that really worked
at one time, the only worm you could get around here was the old two hook creme's. one had a spinner up front...the other did not. choice of two colors, red or black. both deadly.

Wearing on the reel?
had an old castaic i pitched with forever and never did wear the durn thing out. anything you use will experience wear...the more often you use it, the more it will wear. that said, would be willing to bet if you did nothing but pitch with a properly lubed quality reel day-in, day-out, it would still be a long time before you needed to start looking at the clutch assembly and related parts. today's quality reels are a lot tougher than we sometimes give them credit for.

for all of you who HATE billy mays...

BPS tourney special casting rods.
depends on which model you're looking at and what you're going to do with it. the medium has a moderate action and will work for tip-down baits. the mh is also moderate, at least in my hands...will work for blades but, imo, not so good for tip-up...you may wanna look at the clarus models here...may be a few dollars more but, again imo, a much lighter, crisper action for tip-up. am sure there are other rods in that price range others can comment on. as far as the hump, this is a personal thing...i have a ts pistolgrip i keep for tossing in back of the truck at times and like it. as far as the longer models, would not have one...again, personal.

using clips
i use the crossloks...and attach it to the split ring. i cannot remember the time i've lost a treble fish because of this.

Weightlifting Pain!
how tall are you? sometimes, the tall ones (6'4" here) have a tendency to lean forward too much on the first lift. this can strain the lower verts, giving you all kinds of feelings you don't want.

New reel rubbing
personally, would send it back. i once returned a sustain for that same problem.

I finally pulled the trigger.................
