  1. I have owned 2 BPS bionic blade rods. One spinning, one casting. I have been very pleased with them and they are always on sale.
  2. I bought a brand new pinnacle solene reel on ebay just because it was 15 bucks. Its not the fanciest thing in the world, but its normally 50 at Walmart.
  3. What have you all found that is the most buoyant to provide the slowest possible fall for a 1/2 ounce or larger jig?
  4. Down here with our downright freezing Alabama winters (70 the day after christmas)...Jig or spinnerbait
  5. Now is a good time to do it. At least it is for us in the Southeast. Our local lake is about 5-6 feet below full pool right now, due to drought. A lot of lakes around the country are being drawn down for winter pool right now, so its a good time to take some time to do some scouting. We found several brushpiles and laydowns that can usually only be found with electronics. Most were just barely sticking out of the water, in anywhere from 3-7 feet deep, so when the water comes back up, we expect these to be some awesome hot spots about 6-12 feet deep...at least we hope. Also, we were able to get a better idea of the bottom contour of some of the future spawning areas nearby. For those of us that don't have super electronics, or if you're just new to an area, or if you are a more visual learner, now is an awesome time to find some of that stuff and get a better understanding of the bass' habitat.
  6. http://sports.espn.go.com/outdoors/tv/news/story?id=3787796 It won't be long now!!!!!!!!!!! I think most of us can agree the best shows are the informative type rather than the "sell me a piece of crap type."
  7. The weather here in alabama has been amazingly awesome this week. It hasn't dipped below about 55 all week and the highs have been in the 70s. I'm thinking with this week of warmer weather in the middle of all the cold, the fishies will be going nuts!!!!! I'm having a really tough time deciding whether i'm going to go close to home at West Point or make the 1.5 hour drive to Jordan tomorrow!!!! Jordan has way more structure and docks and grass and everything....I'm new to West point lake, but then again, now might be a good time to go get some confidence over there...What do you think?
  8. Holy crap! Thats even better! Don't know how good that rod is, but for someone who is a baitcast beginner, this would be a good first timer
  9. About a week ago, I bought my brother a Daiwa strikeforce reel from Academy. When I picked it up, I thought it was kinda nice, and for being on sale for only 29 BUCKS, I had nothing to lose. Well, when he got it, he put it on a 6'6 BPS MH bionic blade and I'm telling you for 29, this thing is awesome. Its got like a 6:1 or 6:something ratio and it has been awesome for both flipping and casting. So, if you're on a budget, Academy has got these things marked down, you won't regret getting one.
  10. A day on the lake is a great show...its cool to see the pros sometimes folks struggle to find fish too....just more realistic, you kinda get to be inside their heads and see how they read everything.. Worlds greatest fishing show is downright entertaining....Z is hilarious and so are half the pros that are on that show...Hackney, Swindle.. Bill Dance is nothing but a salesman (i actually bought that crankbait thing with the eel tail, which sucks), but his bloopers on youtube are outstanding. The tournament shows on ESPN on the weekends are pretty good if you haven't already seen them 100 times, especially when they are focusing on the educational stuff.
  11. I've never used them, partly because I don't believe in paying more than 5 or 6 bucks for a single bait yet....but I've heard that those sebile magic swimmers are awesome
  12. Mighty ambitious little jokers....

Welcome!!! I think you'll like it here! Good folks with good information
  14. Heading out to West Point again this weekend. Made our first trip last weekend and loved it 100 times more than what we have been fishing (Harding, one lake down the river). We caught two decent fish in 4 hours in terrible weather. One on a shaky head worm, the other on a spinnerbaits, both pitching around laydowns. One about 2 pounds and the other about 2 1/2. The weather this weekend is supposed to be COLD, well, for us anyway. You guys up north might not consider 40's to be cold. But...anyone got any suggestions for the bass behavior on West Point during cold weather?

I saw that KVD sexy shad kit and it looked pretty cool to me. Its got quite a variety of stuff!
  16. Strike King series 5 and series 6 are my favorite, but I'm not too particular. I do however prefer the suspending type stuff.
  17. I've been hanging around here for about a year now, mostly studying what other people have to say. I'm 26 years old living in East Alabama, a translplant from Shreveport. Imagine my unfortunate location. I moved from an area that had Caddo, Cross, Bistineau, Cyrpess, Red River, and Black Bayou within about 30 minutes to Opelika where the selection is significantly less and the styles are vastly different (harding and west point). Though I've enjoyed it my whole life(once or twice a year from a bank), I've only been able to really start fishing and learning for about a year and a half, and plan on fishing my first tournament trail this upcoming season. I've seen that most of the folks on here are good folks and will always shoot you straight, and now, I finally feel like maybe I have a little something to offer rather than just asking questions. I'm still lost half the time when trying to figure out what these crazy fish are doing, but I'm getting closer.
  18. Need to take a vote. My brother just moved near me, so now he is going to be able to fish much more than he used to, he has one good combo, and one so-so combo. He has no baits or organizers or anything like that. I don't mind him using mine, but I know how cool it was to get my own stuff. So.... Would you rather get a pretty good third combo for christmas, or would you rather get a load of your own baits, hooks, tacklebox, bags, etc.....
  19. Anyone know of any or own any good ponds near the Auburn/Opelika area? Harding is the closest lake to us, and as you probably know, it can be pretty tough, with a five fish limit of about 8 pounds usually being a pretty great day. Just curious...thanks folks
  20. coming south from b'ham on I-65, take exit 208 (lake mitchell exit). turn left and go back over the interstate. this is county road 28. just follow it for almost 9 miles. runs right into the park. good luck. let us know how it turns out!
  21. hey guys....just make sure that you actually talk to folks when you buy stuff on craigslist or any similar sites for that matter....its a great site i'm sure....but i put my boat a reputable website...come to find out, someone had taken my pictures and my description and was trying to sell my boat for 4K...needless to say, a huge scam! just be careful.....
  22. awesome. lucky that ole needle nose didnt turn get him...
  23. just wanted to tell you...that is one of the best written accounts of anything i have ever read. you are my hero!
