Stock Markets Plunge Worldwide
Banks have been irresponsible, people have been irresponsible, now we are paying for it. We will recover, but things are going to suck for a while. Hopefully we will learn our lesson. Status symbols have become to important to us.

Shimano Spirex or Daiwa Exceler?
Never used an exceler, but I can attest that the spirex is an awesome reel for that price range.

Teammate needed, East AL/West GA area
I've found a monthly tournament trail that I think is pretty good and I was looking for someone who might be interested in fishing it. Its a team trail that fishes 7 tournaments @ West Point, 2 @ Wedowee, 1 @ Harding, 1 @ Eufaula (right in the middle of the spawn), and 1 @ Logan Martin. Entry fees are very reasonable, the guy emailed me and said they expect to have 20 teams at this point. Shoot me a PM or respond here if you're interested. First tournament is this weekend (1/24) at West Point!!!!

Crooked Lake, Florida
I'm with you. To answer one of the questions....it does take hours and hours and hours and hours and hours (you get the point) to get this stuff down. Very few people are just naturals. I would be willing to bet that most of these guys have been fishing since they could walk, and therefore probably have at least 20+ years of experience on me and you. With that being said, being a non boater can be a huge advantage. Soak in all the knowledge you can from these guys. Seeing someone effectively fish a point is much more effective than trying to read about it! The other thing...all these creeks and roadbeds and submerged timber and all that stuff that everyone talks about...most lakes have them, they just aren't visible unless you have a good map and some good electronics. Again...hopefully you will be in the back of the boat with a boater who is willing to share his knowledge and experience with you. If so, don't hesitate to pick their brain on how they develop patterns and why they choose certain lures. As far as lure selection, it depends on how many combos you have. In order-I would go rattletrap/crankbait, texas rigged something or other (it will be easy to switch between worms and creatures), and then, you choose based on what your fishing around, either a jig or spinnerbait-just my opinion, but I'm only a couple years into this thing...check out the articles on this site as well

Bama spot
Good deal. I use to live in Millbrook and put in at Cooter's pond. There are definitely some good fish in the river there. I never ran toward wetumpka farther than that first bridge in Montgomery though....I was wondering where everybody was when I'd show up to a full parking lot, but only actually see a couple folks. Thanks for the reponse-can't wait to get back over there soon. Its only about an hour from where we are now.

Big Bass Lakes
I guess I'm thinking like "normal" huge, about 8-10..... I know my list of must fish lakes would include guntersville and falcon, just trying to get some opinions and add a few more...

Now this is stupid
can you say potential serial killers? it takes an absolute scary person to kill something just to watch it die. Especially in that manner.

Big Bass Lakes
In light of the huge day that the stren series seems to be having at Falcon, what do you think the top 5 big bass holes in the country are? The best lakes I have had the chance to fish are Lake Fork and all the lakes around Shreveport (not the river though). Just curious what yall's opinion is...

Reels under $70?
I have bought $70 reels that were immediate pieces of crap and a $29 daiwa strikeforce that can compete (at least initially) with my best stuff. It was much more important for me initially to get those 2 rigs going and then build up to better stuff later. If you've only got 1 going, you will save yourself a lot of aggravation by being able to switch between your jig and your spinnerbait or whatever else quickly. Go with the 2, Especially if those BPS extremes are as decent as everyone claims.

TM debate
I've got a 12V 46lb. thrust Motorguide on my 17' xpress and it does wonderfully. My buddy has a much larger minnkota and its awesome as well. Can't go wrong with one of the two.

Is now the time??
All this stuff worries me....I understand the economy sucks, and I know all sports rely on sponsorship dollars, but none to the extent that BASS and FLW do except for probably nascar. The other issue that nascar ran into was turning their backs on their core fan bases and embracing big money corporate types who only cared what went on for a couple of years. I know its tough to change and evolve, but I think even more important than toughing out the downturn portion of our economic business cycle is to not forget who got you there in the first place.

Iaconelli on FLW...what's up???
I just can't get over the big screen tv he's got mounted right next to the console...I would love to see what one of those things can do, and just how clear and detailed it is.

anyone striper fish?
I've been having that issue a lot lately. I've been throwing white booyah spinnerbaits. I haven't ever purposely caught a striper, but their are plenty of folks that I have run across that are strictly striper fishing. I've watched a group of about 8 boats all within 30 yards of eachother all jump up at the same time (when the stripers start bustint the top of the water chasing shad) and then all sit down at the same time when it cooled off and wait for the next period. The one thing I have noticed is that it seems to be when the sun pokes out from behind the clouds that they really get turned on.

Another great day! 01-11-09
Is it legal to fish with worms that are over 4 feet long? Looks like an awesome day to me!
