  1. the mattlures are 5" and 1.25 oz they arent really small
  2. I have caught many many fish with the chatterbait. The frog is the same thing but mimmiking a frog. When a steady retrieve doesnt work try pulling the bait with your rod and then reeling in the slack. This causes a stop and go action of the bait. Sometimes the chatterbait is the best lure and sometimes it dont work at all. but when it does you usually blast em.
  3. I wish the avid came in a split grip handle model because i really like those. I fished my buddies legend tournament and i really liked it a lot thats what has me wanting a higher end model and i felt like the split grip gave more sensativity and probally a little lighter. I may just have to save up a little more and get the legend tournament but i just cant see myself paying $220 for a rod.
  4. No offense against BPS rods i have some extremes but you can really tell the difference between them and other high end rods. They just arent nearly as sensative or light. I use an extreme for my second rod setup i take out. But this rod needs to be a good one as it will be on my revo stx and is my main setup.
  5. so far i think im down to three rods the carrot stick,Gloomis Gl2,and St.croix avid.
  6. So i was fishing with a buddy and i was fishing the mattlures baby bass and i had caught a couple decent fish. I use my revo stx when fishing them and my buddy doesnt have a baitcaster or the rod to handle the lure. He has a spinningrod that he uses for catfishing and was wondering if he could use that to fish swimbaits. Is there any negatives to using a spinning reel vs baitcaster?
  7. I am looking to buy a new rod probally a 6'6" m/h rod. I dont want to spend more then 150 and am open for suggestions on what you think is the best rod for the buck at this price range. I am thinking of the carrot stick. Any other suggestions?
  8. Yea read the sticky and practice, practice and practice. Try practicing in the backyard so your only worried about casting not catching fish. Also try starting casting with a sidearm cast not overhand. What model Baitcaster do you have?
  9. id go with the shimano over quantum
  10. I voted for the senko just for the fact when nothing else is working its one of my confidence lures. I like the swimming senko but havent has enough experience to vote for it over the senko
  11. yea definetly are i never thought they were gonna look that real before i got them. I have never caught a 4 lber there so i cant wait to get em on the lake where ive caught many 4 lbers and bigger
  12. lipless crank or spinnerbait
  13. so i went out for the first time with my new mattlures baby bass and the bluegill(didnt get a chance to fish the bluegill) and i caught a 4lber and 2 3lber in about an hour span. I didnt fish very long today and i was bank fishing. Man these lures look great and have great action. Man i cant wait to get on the boat with these.
  14. i dont stick to one brand but buy more of a some brands. Most of my reels are abus and daiwas as i like them the most. Tackle wise its whatever works in the water.
  15. I would also recommend the Advantage very nice reel smooth as hell but it is a second to my revo stx. I love both of these reels and would highly recommend either one. The Advantage is $50 cheaper i think. It is probally the best reel in the 150 and under i have ever used.
  16. I have the Team Daiwa Advantage HtSA supertuned and the revo stx and i definetly prefer the revo over the daiwa. You can get the stx off ebay new for 160 and thats the same price i paid for my advantage both are great reels but i prefer the revo and the drag is sick.
  17. Thanks all for the help. I never thought of a telescopic flipping stick. I ordered the 7'6" flipping stick from bps. I have another extreme and really like it so im glad they had this style rod to in the extremes
  18. yea i know i would get a bigger one but it wont fit in my car and we all know rods arent cheap so i dont want to damage it by cramming it in
  19. I need a swimbait rod this is capable of throwing mattlures ultimate bluegill. The thing is i need to be able to fit it in my car so a 6'6" model would be prefered and i am having trouble finding one. I also would like to stay under 150. Are there any rods out there that can match my preferences. I will be putting a revo stx and hope to pull in the monster with mattlures baby bass and bluegill.
  20. It is a very nice fishery holding many large fish. It is hit hard on the weekends so if you do go, id go early. It is probally one of the more pressured lakes in the area.
  21. I am looking in getting a fish finder. I dont own a boat but i rent one at local lakes all the time. I strap my electric motor on it and go out. Any suggestions on a fish finder that would easily be portable i could take out with me. I was thinking that hummingbrd smartcast but have heard mixed reviews. Are there any other suggestions on one or should i just get the smartcast RF20 or 15 i think it is.
  22. if you never fished a frog i highly recommend it. They are great big bass catchers and you can fish them where nothing else is possible. When the bucket mouth hits it Hold On because they demolish it. Its one of the funnest ways to catch fish. The hollow bodied ones are my favorite and I use the spro but really like the river2sea colors. Tip set your drag up high because them bass will go right into the grass and if it aint set high you might not get em out.
  23. good luck with learning baitcasting just be patient. Your d**n right the Stx is a great reel. I prefer it over my team daiwa advantage and that also is a great reel
  24. thanks rw i have tried pline and i didnt have any problems i think im gonna go with yo zuri to see what all the hype is about haha
