  1. Tails up baby!
  2. Article is nearly 30 years old, and still triggering some big assumptions. I would generally prefer to seek out the largest fish in a body of water. Probably why I did decent in tournaments.
  3. I'm not sure the intention of the kits was for thieves, but if I can buy them to install the fasteners, then someone certainly can buy them to remove them. Tamper proof <> theft proof.
  4. It's about $20 to get the kit that has all the tamper proof bits, so I'm not sure what the point is.
  5. I use fluoro or braid. Load has nothing to do with it. A moderate taper has too much flex for those baits and you'll lose fish. Might feel better throwing them, but doesn't work when working them through the cover they're designed for. Moderate rods are great for diving cranks and rocks, where deflection off the bottom is key. That isn't what this post is about. They're also terrible at driving a jig hook home in anything less than a heavy power. An XF gets into the power section way quicker to set that big hook. For square bills, a bit slower than that, but still fast allows you to react to the cover you should be fishing - stumps, docks, laydowns. You can kill the bait quicker with a fast rod when you make contact without sacrificing the wobble. Two baits, two techniques, two different rods.
  6. I use a fast rod for for square bills and an XF for chatterbaits. Depending on cover or bait size I pick M or MH.
  7. Be specific. What marina? I've fished any without buoy lines on Cayuga without issue. I'm assuming someone squawked on the north end.
  8. killer technique
  9. What resource? The DEC has never respected the bass and panfish fishery. All they care about are their precious salmonoids. God forbid you have a party of five with more than one fish on a rope. Literally have had guys with guns drawn over it. It's mental. Trout are put and take. It's why our licenses are so expensive.
  10. Way before that, around 2010. I think they were Heliums.
  11. I always eat my peanut butter.
  12. I like getting out. Best five over 15 is decent. I've had a day where I caught just two but they were both over 6 each and I was only there for a few hours, so that was a good day. I've had 100+ smallie days, though none over 4. That's a good time.
  13. Hmm, never really didn't like any that I bought. What I really disliked was every single Kistler eventually snapping on fish. It took a couple years but I managed to snap all five of them. They were very light and crisp rods and a joy to fish before they broke.
  14. The Bronco Sport is the little guy with either a 1.5 or 2.0. Not the same as a Bronco. The 2.0 is a proven engine.
  15. Any 50-65 lb. 4+ carrier braid I've ever tried was pretty much bullet proof in all but the heaviest cover, so long as there aren't zebra mussels.
  16. 75% of the population don't spawn. Perhaps your catches were those fish that basically carried on in an active feeding mode.
  17. Most of my gas grills were second hand and rebuilt by my oldest son. I've been rocking a basic Weber kettle charcoal grill for about 10 years now tho. I replaced the grate this spring and put a rubber foot for a crutch on the leg. Darn thing will last another decade I figure.
  18. Four score and five years ago...ploopers still don't work well for me. Doesn't explain the hundreds of fish I've caught on other big swim baits, but oh well. Win some, lose some.
  19. It only takes two crows to attempt a murder.
  20. Sounds like the knot is holding and the line is failing.
  21. Good for him. He has no bearing on yours or my fishing. If you glean a tip from him that works, then good for you. There's gonna be a time when you need a 10:1 reel. I generally stick Daiwa 6.2:1 for it. I won a tournament using spinnerbaits with an old Abu 3.7:1 reel, slow rolling in 20 FOW. There is no answer to this. Just find what works in that moment.
