  1. If you haven't got any interference, then knock yourself out. EVERY SINGLE boat I've ever had, the electronics were running off the cranking battery, the TM on dedicated batteries.
  2. Been using fluoro for a dozen years. The products from Seaguar don't exhibit poor knot strength when properly tied. For instance, I generally get more than 6# breaking strength from 6# Invisx. I've demonstrated this using a scale at many a seminar. I don't find issues with casting either, though ability probably comes into play. You can't be sloppy with knots or casting.
  3. Nothing more than maybe a 1-2 oz. baits, and 20 lb. line.
  4. Actually, this is proper and recommended. You do not want to run your electronics off the trolling motor battery. You can add another battery dedicated to your electronics.
  5. I can tell you that many a 16" bass has taken one of my 68s.
  6. That depends on the cover. If it's square bills or coffin bills around wood and dock pilings, then 15# Invisx. If it's just tipping and ripping off weed tops, then 10 or 12# is fine.

  8. I flip my bait when one side wears out.
  9. I keep a few Genny Lights in the vegetable rotter in my fridge.
  10. I like the ones on the bottom, like Ragetail baits. They help me line up the center for feeding the hook back through. I do also think the belly slots on super flukes and swimbaits help on hook sets.
  11. This. "Gravid" is the term. "Fecund" would be a good description, too. The pic in the OP actually looks thin to me.
  12. Exactly. I don't often see actual bass on the graph, but I do see carpets of bait, a couple of fee thick on the bottom. Once I start fishing those areas, then I see the bass appear, and come off the bottom to take my bait. Then, hopefully, there's that thick jagged line to the surface, where that fish meets my net
  13. It's fine here, but don't re-post across multiple forums. Thanks.
  14. They're probably still in their scattered, summer patterns. Look for bait fish. On Ontario, that can mean 15' or 40'. Don't forget the Hopkin's Shorty spoon either. That with the drop shot are about the only tools I need.
  15. I can think of one time this has happened with a bass. A couple times with northern pike, but they seem much more primal than bass.
  16. Thanks, Tom. Just a postscript to this thread, for informational purposes. I know of a verified 9+ from Greenwood Lake. I personally witnessed an 8-5 in a tournament on Keuka Lake. I know of a verified 8+ from a small, unmentionable pond/Lake in Central NY. I personally have caught two fish over 7, a 7-2 from Irondequoit Bay, and a 7-1 from that same unmentionable pond/lake. The biggest I've seen from Champlain are in the 6-7. That place is loaded with 4-5 lb. bass. Conesus is another big bass factory. I believe the NY record should be retired. It is not from public water, and people that live on the lake are suspicious. I think there is a close to 9 lb. fish swimming around. Back to the question. I would not leave the spot entirely, until I was convinced I was on a "small fish pattern." I might back off the spot, and look for what Bill Murphy calls "subliminal spots." Little things, just off the main structure that can make all the difference in the size of your catch.

  24. Be a specialist in determining location. Let the cover, depth, structure determine what works best. Specialize in that.
