  12. I use 10 lb braid with a mono leader connected with a small swivel. I usually use maxima ultragreen in 10, 12 or 15 lb depending on bottom type. Stiff mono works well for the fouling problem. Braid helps with sensitivity & transmits a fouled bait. Some fouling comes with the type of bait & jigging motion & happens for everyone.
  13. These work great for hot climates. SPF 50. I like to call them PB pants. https://www.columbia.com/mens-pfg-terminal-tackle-pant-1859451.html?dwvar_1859451_variationColor=019#start=20

  15. You did really well with Captain Shane. For you guys wanting to book Shane for a trip you need to plan in advance as he is often booked up for months in advance. He does have a couple of really good guide alternatives if your schedule wont work with his.

  20. My year in review only constituted one week of smallie fishing at Rainy Lake in May of last year. A group of four smallie chasers spent May 11-17th at Rainy. This was our second trip same week as the previous year. Ice out was a week earlier than 2018 but water temps were about the same if not colder. We had fewer fish numbers than our first trip & less size. I tried a few different baits like a dark sleeper & some hair jigs but quickly tied on a jerkbait to hook up my first fish. Ima flit size 120 in white & chartreuse shad, LC pointer 100 in shell white & duo realis jerkbaits in 110 sp in white & 120sp in white were the predominant baits. White baits definitely carry an advantage on Rainy Lake so I don't even bother switching colors as long as the bait is white or a white look of another shade/color. WE did good on the smallies but not great. We did have lots of bonus walleyes & pike. My buddy John caught his PB pike, a 20lb class fish measuring 42-43 inches. We are going back again this year but one week later than our first two trips hoping to find more active smallies but still prespawn.
  21. The shorter rod will balance out better. The 893C has been mentioned numerous times as being more tip heavy than any other NRX models. My advice is to pick the rod you want first then try the reel on it before you buy the reel if you have a large enough reel retailer near you. The new met is supposed to be out in a few months. It probably will only be available only in Japan initially. You can read about here. The video & discussion starts on the 2nd page of this thread.
  22. I liked the Sunline Defier Armilo & used it for a few years but have switched over to Sufix Advance. The Advance is precision wound like the Defier & has similar characteristics but seems slightly limper & coils less. I also like it for better sensitivity with less stretch. Its knot strength & abrasion resistance is good. It's also available in 330 yard spools instead of just 165 yd spools.
  23. With Kistler running so many sales you don't have to pay $350. I personally never bought a Kistler rod because it was a Kistler rod. I bought it because Kistler built a finished rod on a Gary Loomis NorthFork composite blank.
