Clearer lakes have bigger fish ?
In talking with fish management biologist the fertilized ponds with off stain or colored water yield more trophy bass than clear waters because of the nutrient value. This info was from the state of Georgia.

What’s your favorite brand rod? Megabass, shimano, st croix, G.loomis...
When I got started fishing I was always a Loomis fan. I also have liked St Croix. Lately I have favored Kistler rods on Northfork Composite blanks the new Gary Loomis blanks.

Jerkbait
My favorite jerk baits & colors depend on what body of water I'm fishing. For largemouth I like pointer 128's in shell white & aurora gold. For smallmouth I like ima flit 120 in chartreuse shad. If fishing the great lakes system or other waters with gobies I like lc pointers 100, 127 & 128 in shrimp. Also like smithwick rogues deep divers in tiger minnow color. Molty brown colors with some black replicate the gobies. Vision 110 +2 in french pearl is a winner for both species.

Suspending Smallmouth
Just using my regular jerk bait rod a St Croix legend elite MHM blank custom by Otter Rods (Mattman). I always used 10lb braid with a mono leader from 10-20 feet long.

What's the difference between swim jig & chatterbait?
The blade but that blade serves more than one purpose. It creates vibration & also light flash off the metallic blade that you don't get with a conventional swim jig.

Suspending Smallmouth
When smallies suspend on Erie I always targeted them with deep running jerks baits. Strolling with the wind & with long leads behind the boat. Sometimes you mark the smallies on your graph & other times you don't when targeting the bait schools. Walleye & smallies will move away from the boat off to the side & then return after the boat passes. The long leads help with this lateral movement.

Hook Sizes On Weighted Swim Bait Hooks And Underspins?
Good question Joe. The owner lite twistlock hooks do run on the small size compared to other owners. They were developed with Gary Yamamoto for use with senko style baits. The hook size specs were Gary's call not owners. All the other owner hook sizes follow owners specs.

10 pounders in Ohio?
Randy VanDam Kevin’s brother caught the Ohio state record smallmouth at 9.5 lbs. I saw a 9 lb plus caught a few years back near Conneaut Ohio Lake Erie waters. So it stands to reason there are a few 10 lb largemouth bass still swimming in Ohio waters.

Jigs for a reaction bite
You can always fish a swim jig with a thumping or high movement trailer. Also a bladed jig/chatterbait will work.

Switching back to braid? Worth the investment?
Talk to the Florida guys & they advocate heavier braid like 50 lb minimum. The reason is because it digs in much less than lighter lb tests. The larger diameter handles better & is less likely to snap when backlashed. Be aware that holding down the spool to free a snag also causes braid to dig in. Use something like a wooden dowel rod to wrap the braid around for pulling snags free. you can use whatever mono or fluoro line for your leaders that you want. Probably you want 15-20 lb test leader.

LMH For Dummies
I think it has been explained pretty well. The light medium heavy is a 3 power rod in between the 2 power medium & the 4 power MH. It is rated for 1/4 to 3/4 oz baits but according to Trey it will handle 1 oz baits with no problem. I bought a LEXF-3MH-70 Zbone to use with fluoro or copoly for jerk baits including 1 ounce baits. Trey told me it would be an excellent stick for that purpose. It has been a lot of fun to use. I also have the ZB4MH73 which is rated modified fast another confusing description. I think Kistler rates their rods as best they can to describe any deviation from the conventional ratings. If you are ever in doubt just call Trey and let him explain the differences. It starts to make sense after you do a little research. Kistler does have some unique actions because of the source for the blanks from NorthFork Composites.
