  1. Call St Croix with your problem. They might send you a replacement guide which you can get installed locally. If you want to pay to ship it to them under warranty they have a special rate established with a shipper which you pay for online & print out the shipping label. I think they use fedex & the price is $9.95. Check under the warranty section for details.
  2. Has any one tried tying a featherd treble to their line a foot in front of their jerkbait?
  3. Sloan thanks for the reminder. The patio looks very inviting for polar bears.
  4. Another way to set the drag without using a scale is cast out with a crank bait & try a strong hook set. Set your drag on the loose side & keep tightening until the drag does not slip on the hook set. That will put in the zone.
  5. If you get the right rod for perch you are going to be at a disadvantage for stripers & bass. Better to chose the rod for bass & stripers & let it make do for your perch fishing. A MF avid would make a good all around rod & be a serious upgrade from the premier.
  6. Good advice. If you travel with the boat strongly consider Sears or Walmart for weekend access if you have a warranty concerns.
  7. Hopefully the rough times are behind you & you can get back to fishing. Good luck.
  8. Florida strain transplants.
  9. Talking about the man's intensity. I don't know what he does when fishing in the dark.
  10. Clint Eastwood in the all the spaghetti westerns, all the Dirty Harry flicks and even the TV series Rawhide as Rowdy Yates. Heck probably just about all his movies. Charles Bronson in most of his movies was pretty good too.
  11. The worst part of it is he fishes the same way.
  12. Congrats. A new fishing partner in the making.
  13. Here is a picture of a close friends best smallie day of his life. This is the only 21" smallie I have ever seen that went over 7lbs. The 2nd picture is my wife's PB which she deserved to land after tripping over my tackle bag & falling on her butt. She managed to hang on to the rod & land the fish despite the fall.
  14. I will be sure to welcome you to that club in four years but wait I'll be in another club.
  15. Welcome Jon. You have come to the right place. Great pics.
  16. The bible story about Jonah being swallowed by a big fish could have been a goliath grouper.
  17. I can't answer your question because the rods are in PA & I'm in FL at the moment. The rod I'm referencing is the TBS71MF. I'm a staunch supporter of St Croix rods & own well over a dozen of them but found the LTB not one of my favorites.
  18. I bought a LTB in a spinning rod for plastics & reached the same conclusion you just did. The avid feels like the better rod for less money. It's better balanced. If I were you I would either step up to a legend elite/legendextreme or stick with the avid.
  19. Back then that would be dinner. I would guess that to be 200-300 lbs. We used to catch them quite frequently off Marco Island & 10,000 islands area in the gulf when I was younger. We did catch one in the 100-150lb range.
  20. I have two of them. One I use for frogs & the other for jigs & plastic swim bait paddle tails.
