  1. Conquest 50 Have you every had one in your hand? The whole issue of round reel versus low profile goes out the window with this one. I'm not a big guy have average size hands & the 50 just feels right at home. It's worth trying one if you have never had one in hand.
  2. That's an oldie but goodie.
  3. If you are fishing the dropshot vertically you can run a leader the length of the rod as long as you are not reeling the swivel into your rod tip. If you are casting the rig you need to shorten the leader length to two or three feet.
  4. Two little boys are going to the hospital the next day for operations. Theirs will be first on the schedule. The older boy leans over and asks, "What are you having done?" The second boy says, "I'm getting my tonsils out, and I'm afraid." The first boy says, "You've got nothing to worry about. I had that done when I was four. They put you to sleep, and when you wake up, they give you lots of Jell-O and ice cream. It's a breeze." The second boy then asks, "What are you going in for?" The first boy says, "Circumcision." "Whoa!" the smaller boy replies. "Good luck, buddy. I had that done when I was born. Couldn't walk for a year."
  5. Take a hard look at a Cordell Redfin, only $7 bucks.
  6. Cold water equates to slower fish metabolism. As the water warms so do the fish & yes they will more actively chase baits.
  7. No but there are an awful lot of people sitting on a throne.
  8. Straight from the horses mouth. State RecordIf you catch a really big fish, you may have a new State Record. The State Record Program recognizes those anglers who break current New York State records for any of the 45 eligible fish species. Anglers receive a custom engraved plaque, an Angler Achievement Award lapel pin, and a Certificate of Achievement. How Do You Participate? To participate in New York State's Angler Achievement Awards Program, simply follow these guidelines: Fish must be taken by angling in New York State waters in accordance with New York State fishing regulations. Fish must meet the minimum qualifying weight or length for that species and the entered category. Fish entered in the Annual Award and State Record categories must be weighed on a certified scale by the owner of the scale or an employee, and must be witnessed by at least one other person. Fish submitted as a potential State Record entry must be identified by a DEC biologist or a designee. Qualifying fish must be entered on an official entry form or facsimile. All entries must be accompanied by a clear, sideview photograph of the fish or the angler with the fish. Entry forms must be received by DEC's Bureau of Fisheries within 30 days of the catch. For more specific information on the rules, see Rules for Entry in the right column. Download the Entry Form (PDF) (60 Kb) here or you can obtain one from any DEC Regional Fisheries Office, or by writing to: NYSDEC, Bureau of Fisheries, 625 Broadway, Albany, New York 12233-4753. Remember, if you catch a trophy fish in New York State water, DEC wants to hear about it!!!
  9. First thing to do is check with your state regarding the actual regulations. There is probably a form to fill out regarding their questions & witness signatures. They may require a state biologist to verify the species & take a scale sample. They will most likely require weighing on a certified scale like in a grocery store or meat market where the scale is verified by state regulation yearly. The state of Pennsylvania requires a paper printout from the scale. Practically speaking the regulations may prevent you from keeping the fish alive.
  10. Crocs for me. If it is chilly then socks & crocs. Below 50 I wear gortex Timberland shoes.
  11. It's your PB thread. Congratulations PB's are always special.
  12. Sometimes you just gotta love the south.
  13. That's the way to get a new boat slimed. Congrats.
  14. That's better than a traditional valentine.
  15. Once you get to 8.5' foot rods or longer they are two piece.
  16. Jeff and I just ordered two metanium DCs from Japan Lure shop who had the best price and stock.
  17. I think the long rods are best suited for bigger waters from a boat. I have many times used 8.5 foot steelie rods with 7 foot rods while fishing for smallies. Long rods on the outside with shorter rods on the inside for a bigger spread while covering water.
  18. I don't care about more fish with or without a buddy along because I am not a numbers fisherman. I caught my PB with a buddy. My next best four fish I caught alone. The presence of a buddy does not make me more productive. But I would rather enjoy the moment with a close friend.
  19. X2 Stick with proven winners and you won't get burnt.
  20. I'm not so sure that we need the coal badly as a fuel source. It is a dirty fuel period. We have enough natural gas to replace coal as a fuel source for a long, long time.
