  1. Looks like a legend extreme.
  2. Funny you brought this up. I just got an email from Manns with the same thing. Let's check it out.
  3. Here is your answer from Dan (Bantam1) The DC unit in the Calais offered the best performance for distance casting, and short roll casts. The newer I-DC type reels (Metanium, Scorpion, Exsense) uses a simple version for easy casting. They were not made for distance casting. Now I have not used the latest Metanium DC as there were some changes. However, we will not be able to bring these to the US due to a trademark issue. Maybe in 2017...but by then Shimano Japan may figure out a better version. Bantam1 Manufacturer Support Posts: 3890
  4. Probably worse.
  5. Somebody else on another thread made the comparison of scroungers to chatterbaits or blade jigs. They both are relatively weedless thru cover. I like to use more neutral action baits like a fluke or a sluggo behind them as the lip imparts the action to the plastic trailer. Flappin shads like the gambler bait with a vertical tail work good. You don't want the plastic trailer to over power the action of the plastic lip. Very slow retrieves keeping the bait close to the bottom work well. You can also swim it mid depth or keep it high over a weed tops.
  6. I think I know where you are coming from. Its the old KISS theory. Nothing wrong with that. Every man pursues the sport differently. Some guys are such gearheads that tackle is more important than the fish. Other guys believe the fish are numero one. To me its all about the preparation and the planning. I like new gear because I can but there are always older baits & tackle that stand the test of time. Its always a blend of what has worked in the past & my perception of what might work in the future. I enjoy it all. Its what makes fishing such a simple yet complex sport. You can attack it at all levels and still enjoy what it is.
  7. Definitely ethonal free if you can get it. The ethonal free at marinas & the one station I found is usually higher octane. Maybe Way2slow can shed some light.
  8. Catching a state record bass is extremely difficult. And getting the record certified by the state can be even more difficult.

  10. Ordered from them 2/13/15 about 6pm. Reel was shipped Saturday 2/14/15 at 7pm their time. Got the reel today in south FL at noon. Never sent an email regarding delivery either but they did their job.
  11. Here are a couple from this year. http://espn.go.com/video/clip?id=12110596 http://www.kennyroda.com/urban-meyer-national-championship-postgame-locker-room-interview-with-me-and-other-reporters/
  12. Nothing like getting a new state record & then the state misspells your name.
  13. I was only trying to convey that the biologist was talking about ponds which was his specialty. The general consensus was that catch & release works well for larger waters but not for smaller waters & ponds. Most smaller waters & ponds suffer from too many fish and not enough forage resulting in stunted fish populations.
  14. If you consider yourself a good fisherman get the bigger net. The first big pike or musky will prove it was the better choice.
  15. No I have a Starcraft STX 2050 tin boat. But I do see a few 18-24 center consoles on Erie being used by locals. I'm sure you could find a hull that has the proper dead rise & freeboard for your liking since there are so many made. If standing makes for a better fishing day for you that might be the ticket. I stand all day while fishing except to sit when driving on plane. Your other choice could be a multispecies boat with a big tiller and stand while driving. But that might be a younger man's game.
  16. You might bump your avatar PB up to 9-10 from 8-9lbs unless that reflects smallmouth only
  17. Have you considered a center console since you have back problems. That would allow you to stand while driving. It would be a saltwater boat used mostly in fresh water. Their are a lot of them out there.
  18. Funny thing I can remember talking to a biologist that my buddy had hired to assess & shock three ponds down in south Georgia. We were talking about catch & release fishing as it related to pond fishing & fishing in general. He made the comment if we catch a double digit out of those ponds it would not hurt to keep it for a trophy mount. He further stated that the chances of catching that same fish again if released were practically nil. So his comment was don't release a trophy with the idea that it will be caught again because it probably will not happen. Keep in mind these were two to five acre farm ponds.
  19. Thanks Steve. Lucky Craft Man has 12 NRX counting the new one on its way to him. I think he qualifies as an expert on the NRX line.
  20. I have the 802C & the 804C. I have used the 804C for jigs 1/2 to 1oz and it does the job. I have also used it for 1/2 & 3/4 oz spinner baits, 4-6" plastic swim baits and topwater. It performs well for many applications. I think you would be happy with a 4 weight in the 854c or 894C if you want a 7-1" or 7-5" rod. The 4 weight handles the 3 weight jobs nicely but gives you a little extra margin when you truly need the 4 weight. LuckyCraft's suggestion about the MBR rods being very versatile is spot on.
  21. Most of them are either sinkers or floaters.
  22. Yea but how do we know your scale isn't broken?
  23. The advantages of using a small swivel is reducing main line twist. The swivel also allows you to just retie your leader without cutting & retying your main line every time you need a new leader.
  24. You just could not stand it could you?
