  1. Yep like John mentioned it's all about weight. Most spinning equipment favors lighter baits & line while bait casters usually favor heavier tackle. But if your spinning rig is rated for heavier baits & line it will work just fine. I have seen guys use spinning tackle successfully for lake trout & pike.
  2. Tom I quit using Deifer Armillo because it had a tendency to coil because of overall stiffness. The Advance is much limper. The over size diameter makes no difference if you just buy it accordingly. I agree big game is the most inexpensive of the three.
  3. I assume your talking about mono. I have successfully converted over to Sufix Advance. I have been very pleased with the performance in all categories. It's supple, less stretchy and very strong. It does run bigger in diameter than the stated poundage so I just buy by diameter size or downsize to the next offered size. I'll buy their 17lb when I want to replace 20lb in another brand.
  4. I always laugh at the guys that say they would never trust a snap but yet bait manufactures have been selling lures with them on forever. If in doubt just replace with an owner or another quality snap.
  5. Very good advice. I went through an extremely expensive medical ordeal in 2015-2016 and my Medicare supplemental insurance plan F paid for absolutely every medical bill. I never paid a dime. I never asked for any preapprovals or limited my scope seeking the best medical treatment anywhere in the country for a life or death diagnosis.
  6. Your going to like it here. Welcome.
  7. Nope I would rather save my fleeting energy for catching fish. More power to you.
  8. Looks good. Let us know how the smallies like your creation.
  9. Coach Jimbo Fisher out coached Saban for the win. I was impressed with the defensive pressure the Aggies put on the tide. I think Georgia has a better chance than Alabama.
  10. Some days perseverance just doesn’t pay.
  11. I have an alternate suggestion for you. I bought an IMX Pro 904C SWBR 7-6" swimbait rod. Its rated 1/2 to 3 oz baits. It's a medium power mod fast. I took it to Mexico & tried it with 3/4 oz lipless cranks & boy was it heavenly. Cast them a mile & never lost me a fish using mono. It also handles all my crank baits deep divers up to & including Strike King XD10's which is probably the hardest pulling crank ever fished by anyone. This rod not only handles swimbaits up to its lure rating but is very versatile for all cranks 1/2 oz & up.
  12. While fishing for smallies with jerk baits I have caught channel cats, pike, largemouth, walleye, perch, sheephead (drum), steelhead, brown trout, lake trout and a musky. The more diverse the fishery the sweeter the bonus fish except for the drum. I absolutely hate them.
  13. PB's are always sweet, congrats.
  14. I was fishing lake Erie for smallies & wasn't getting any action. So I decided to speed reel the bait in to change actions/color. While reeling in as fast as I could I got absolutely slammed. It was a nice steelhead that I had provoked. Anybody that has ever fished for & caught steelies know you can't reel in a bait as fast as they can swim.
  15. This was my 2nd boat for fishing Erie. 20 footer with a deep V & 19 degree dead rise. She always got us back to the ramp no matter what happened. Plenty of room to fish three guys when needed.
  16. Big smallies surprise musky fisherman very frequently. Gotta love it. Congrats.
  17. My buddies & I caught hundreds of smallies over the years fishing lake Erie with a dead stick rod in a rod holder while using jerk baits. We would hold & work one rod with our second rod in a rod holder. Disclosure; the boat was moving with the wave action so there was periodic movement. Lots of big smallies too. One individual who will remain anonymous had two fish hit at the same time one on his dead stick rod & one on the rod he was working. He picked up both rods & determined which fish felt the biggest/heaviest. He chose the original rod he had been working as the biggest. He had me reel in the dead stick rod. I hurriedly brought the fish in & netted it so I could be ready to net his potential PB. Unfortunately the fish I reeled in was the biggest of the two & was his new PB at 6 lbs-6oz as I remember, lol.
  18. My buddy Noah caught his PB dead sticking a walking surface bait while he was picking out a backlash. The bait was floating on the surface motionless when she grabbed it.
  19. I can figure it out. Strict gun laws only apply to the honest citizens. The people causing the crime rate could care less.
  20. Welcome to BR. Why don't you share a picture of that new PB with us. I'm sure everyone would love to see it.
  21. Fish eat when they are hungry but they also eat when they are already full. Example the fish that eats a bait with another bait already sticking out its mouth. Eating is an instinct not a learned behavior.
  22. Think about it. The loop on a snap is just like the loop on a loop knot. It allows the bait to swing side to side through the radius of the loop. It actually increases the action over a direct tied knot because you don't have a fixed fulcrum.
  23. I always use a 1/2 Cavitron because that's the biggest they make.
