Pics Of The New Rig
Theres not a big motor manufacturer on this planet that writes anything in their manual other than their baby it method, thats why the mototune is controversal. Its your choice, you are the owner, I just wanted to inform you of the flip side of the coin that manufacturers dont tell you about. It worked for me and I personally will continue to do it, if you dont want to, thats ok with me. However at least look at the site and read through the results before you decide for good.

Pics Of The New Rig
I wanna talk to you about break in periods on motors. Take this for what its worth, you decide the route you wanna go. There are two schools of thought 1: Baby it for the break in period per the manufactures instructions. 2: Mototune break in: I did this with my last brand new motor. I did this on my 2007 honda cbr600rr. The theory behind this is that a new motor has crosshatching in the bore from manufacturing. There is only so much time that it has to seat the rings. You basically drive it like you want to from day one. Open it wide up and run really high rpms. Like I said, I did this on my last high performance motor. At 1000 miles I changed over to full synthetic because break in was over. The bike went in for a 15000 mile valve adjustment. Keep in mind this motor ran upwards of 14000 rpms daily. While the valves were severely out and required a lot of adjustment the honda techs commented that "This is the cleanest motor we have ever seen in our shop". Now, I didnt neglect it, even though I ran amsoil I changed it every 3000 miles, well below the recommended 10,000 miles from blackstone labs. Anyhow, I wanted to throw that out to you. Here is the website http://www.mototuneusa.com/break_in_secrets.htm Only you can decide if you want to go that route, I know I personally will always go that route after the results I had. Beautiful boat, I must say I like it better in your pics than the video. I also like how those seats all fold down to walk on.

Show off your Stuff
Burgandy box on the floor is my electronics wiring box. These are all my rods minus two and not including fly fishing gear. My jig/lure/fly tying bench and all of my boxes green lid box is full and the 3700s are sitting on another full one. All bass gear are some form of daiwa reels, mixed bag of rods except for one pro qualifier I got as a christmas gift. Theres a few things in the boat too but not much.

Help With A Good Rod
One rod doesnt cover all techniques but if I had to have just one it would be a MH. Length, i would go 7'6"+ so I could get it out there.

Boat Buying Question?
Rebuilding a carb isnt the end all depending on the year, that boat looks to be a late or early 90s. A carb rebuild kit is litterally $25, sometimes its done just as simple maintance. Ask him when the last time the impeller was replaced. Its recommended to only go 2 years without that but I would think you could easy go 5. My boat when I bought it wasnt peeing out the teltale. I replaced the impeller with common hand tools and a torque wrench. It took me a grand total of 2hours only because I had never done it. If you have done it you could probably do it in 30min-1hr. The carpet looks good. Check all the fish finders, check all the pumps. See if you can take it out and fish it for a half a day with him first and tell him not to turn on the bilge see how much water is there when you are done. My boat looks almost identical and frankly other than the 25hp motor im very pleased with it.

Are There Some Baits You Just Won't Use?
You guys have almost effectively eliminated 90% of my tackle No wiggle warts.... um... ok No buzzbaits... um... sure No frogs.... in the voice of little john (whaaaaaaaaaaaaaat) Metal lipped cranks are stupid because they have metal lips. Show me any other crank that you can alter the dive angle and way it tracks without a lighter Im just blown away at some of these. If I gave up the drop shot my catch rate would fall by at least 50%. If I gave up jigs Id probably never catch a fish over 5lbs. I throw them all, metal lips, buzzbaits, frogs, dropshots. The only technique I dont have covered is LARGE swimbaits and the A-Rig. I doubt Ill ever fish the A-rig but I will likely have a large swimbait rod someday.

What Is Diff Between P Line Flouroclear And Flourocarbon?
Honestly, I dont really think any fluro or fluro blend has a place anywhere but in leaders. Its simply too d**n stiff. You can take a spool, soak it in warm water. Crank it on a reel while coating it in L&L. The next day, spray the whole spool and let it sit and if you dont get to it within 5-6 hours first time you open the bail its a mess. L&L says it works on fluro, I dont know what planet they live on but it certainly doesnt work for me on this planet. Maybe I am holding my mouth wrong when I put it on, ive tried every trick in the book.

Your First Tournament
I probably wouldve pulled the boat over along a downed tree and just sat in the water and fished. That sounds miserable, the heat is bad enough on those days and then no wind makes for reallllllly tough conditions. Add a hangover, I might have checked out early lol.

Jig Fishing Questions
The reason a finesse jig flares at that top is it causes the skirt to fold back and slow the fall rate of the jig. Finesse jigs are built for tough conditions and feeding strikes vs reaction strikes.

My Take
As with anything its best to let results do the talking. When I obtained my first sponsorship in fly fishing I wasnt even looking for one. I was posting video instructions on forums of how to tie certain fly patterns. The phone rang one day and it was an invite to tie at a national show. At the national show I was invited to dinner and offered the sponsorship. I dont think most people realize just how much work goes into a real sponsorship. At best, you might break even. You need to go to shows, you need to take time to speak wtih store owners and individuals. That traveling is all money... tires, gas, oil changes, hotels, time that could be spent making money all so you can get something for "free'. The quote "Nothing in life is free" rings so true in this industry. Sure you might get a $1000 in free rods, but when you do the math you probably spent more than that promoting the product. Unless you are the best of the best and people are physically paying your entry fees, discounting boats/motors... you really are not getting anything for free.

Your First Tournament
I was in HS. Theres tournaments you can fish that dont require a boat. They can be hard to find though. The first one I fished that was warm water species had a payout for every type of fish you could find in warm water. Everything from turtles to carp and inbetween. That tournament I weighed in what wouldve been the biggest rock bass with a $200 check but was beat out on the last day by one ounce. I didnt catch any bass that were even close but I still fished the event. Look for river events and youll likely not need anyone else.

Google Earth -> Lowrance
Open up google earth and mark waypoints you wish to put into your fish finder/gps. When you are done marking Click File -> Save as Name the file something you will remember in a location you can find. Use the KML File extension Open a browser and navigate to http://www.gpsvisualizer.com/gpsbabel/ Set the input file as google earth Set the output file as lowrance Click the browse button and attach your kml file that you saved from google earth Click convert Look for the link to the file, this file will be named the same thing you named it in google earth. The difference is that it will have a .usr file extension. Download the file and save to your computer. Put the file onto a micro SD card Plug micro SD into the lowrance Import waypoints from card Enjoy your pre mapped spots!

On The Water Snacks?
I refuse to eat any kind of sandwhich on regular bread unless its pb&j. I have a pack stove that I carry also, about the size of a small coffee can. Bought it for hunting... msr pocket rocket. I can heat up anything you can make at home on it. If its a sandwhich other than pb&j it must be on some kind of good roll or I wont eat it. Bologna and cheeze/crackers... I dont mind sitting down now and then, gives you a couple mins to regroup. If its an 8hr tournament and I am just SMOKIN them left and right I wont eat. But if I am coming up short then I will eat and think about what I am doing and if I should adjust.

1/4 Oz And Smaller Jigs. When Where And How
Smaller jigs work best in a couple situations 1: Cold Water 2: High Pressure(Fishing not Weather) 3: When youre looking for a feeding strike rather than a reaction strike Think about extremes, a 1oz vs a 1/4oz... you chuck that one ounce jig in there, lets say your fishing a weed edge, 14 feet of water. That jig is going to rocket to the bottom. The bass typically hit it on the fall, they have just a second or two to react. That 1/4oz jig is going to fall much much slower, the fish thats been jacked a few times or meets the other criteria has time to get to it. Think of the smaller jigs like the deadsticking of the jig world. A jig thats 1/4 ounce isnt necessarily a smaller jig but it can be depending on the head style and material its made with.

Weighs Too Much?
That "online fishing tournament" that must not be named has a slot limit tournament now and then. Which is a neat concept because its not species specific either and they go by length.
