  1. Yeah I have one and I love it. I bought mine at the original price right before they went on sale. The reel is worth the money at its original price IMO so it is definately worth the money at 129.99! A lot of people on this forum dislike Quantums but I love mine, and at 129.99 I don't think you can argue.
  2. Pflueger President baitcaster. I don't know if I would say this under-rated so much as just rarely mentioned.
  3. I haven't fished them enough yet to make a decision. I threw one for a little bit at my last tournie and I got one viscious strike. The bass was huge but he came unglued before I got it to the boat.
  4. I've been doing that for a couple years now. Whenever I try to tell someone to do it they always say that the jig will rust or corrode. It never hurts the jig. In fact I just pulled a jig out of a jar that has been sitting in my room for almost two years and it still is as good as new, no rust whatsoever. Oh and the jig now has a permanent pork smell.
  5. I agree with dsaavedra. Fill your spool with braid and you won't be dissapointed. If your fishing somewhere with clear water you can always give the braid a 3-5ft fluro or mono leader.
  6. I always rig them point up. When you rig them point down they get caught on more stuff. Also bass's lower jaw is a little tougher to penetrate the the top of its mouth is IMO.
  7. texas rigged green pumpkin trick worm
  8. Smallmouth fight way harder. I've caught 15" smallies that fought harder than any 6 or 7lb largemouth that I've ever caught.
  9. It depends on the location. One of the lakes I fish I average 30 bass a day in the summer. Another lake I fish I'm thrilled if I catch three. I don't fish the river much but when I do I average 10-20. I know some guys that guide on the river that average 40+ and have several 100+ days every year!
  10. I did a strength test on 13 different 12lb mono lines last year. Trilene XL was among the weakest (only stronger than cajun, spiderwire, and tourney tough). It had a average breaking strength of 9lbs. P-line was the strongest with an average breaking strength of 15.5lbs (no exactly a surprise since it had the largest diameter in the test group). Suffix siege came in second followed by Trilene XT.
  11. I have had some hookup issues with this frog as well. However I know a ton of people who love this frog and say that it has the best hookup ratio on the market. I guy in my club takes a rubber band and puts it near the back of the frog to compress the body and he says it really increases his hookup percentage. I plan on giving that a try. Another problem I have with this frog is that it takes on water every couple casts.
  12. IMO Powerpro is way better than stren. I had stren and I hated it. Can't comment on the suffix though.
  13. All though a lot of the cheaper rods don't have EVA grips anymore, they don't have real cork either. I wanted to convert my flipping rod's handle to a split grip so before I did it on my good rod I decided to practice on a couple el cheapo rods that I had won in a raffle. All of the el cheapo rods had some kind of rubber inside and the cork on the outside was actually just cork tape.
  14. I have slowly came to the conclusion that we need far fewer colors for lures than we think we do. This got me to thinking, what colors are an absolute must and what colors are more niche or special situation colors? Obviously you need several colors to account for variations and water clarity and also forage base. So, what colors do you think are absolutely necessary for each lure type? Here are mine: Plastics: green pumpkin, junebug, watermelon, black, white Spinnerbaits/buzzbaits: white, chartreuse/white, chartreuse, firetiger, black jigs: black and blue, green pumpkin, brown, white crankbaits/jerkbaits: chartreuse/black back, shad, baby bass, bluegill/bream, crawfish topwater: bone (white), black, frog, baby bass
  15. X2 except Green pumpkin/green flake. X3 green pumpkin -searoach
  16. I had a few hit the frog again after they missed it the first time. I followed up with a trick worm and I picked up a few.
  17. I have a few extreme rods that I use and they work okay especially for the price.
  18. It depends on the technique, cover and water clarity but anywhere from 8lb-50lb. Most of my baitcasters usually have 12-17lb line. I have 50lb braid on my flipping/pitching rod and 8-10lb fluorocarbon on most of my spinning rods.
  19. For the zoom trick worm some good colors are green pumpkin (obviously), junebug, watermelonseed, and sometimes bubblegum.
  20. I was at a local lake yesterday throwing buzzfrogs over some grass and I was getting a ton of blowups but I couldn't hook anything. I had around 20 blowups and I didn't hook a single fish. I was even missing fish that hit it in open water! I know that ribbits, buzzfrogs, cane toads etc. tend to have a lower hookup percentage than other baits but I usually can hook atleast 50-70% of the fish that blowup on them. Are there any rigging or other tips that could increase my hookup percentage. I'm using 50lb powerpro braid and a MH rod if that helps.
  21. I think there are definiately times when other baits will work much better than plastics, however, all of those other baits have certain times/situations where they don't work well. Plastics on the other hand always produce and they work under every condition imaginable. Although they are not always the best choice, they are never the wrong choice and that is something you can't say about other baits.
  22. I just did this at a tournament this week end, it does work. The only thing is that you have to be careful that you don't put too much soft plastic in there because then the body won't compress right.
  23. For those who recently bought a Tour Edition reel for $240 to see them going for $130 has got to be like a punch in the head A-Jay Uhhh yeah, so I just about threw up. I got my Tour Edition less than a month ago for $240. :'( :'( :'( :'( >
