  1. I fish with the best stuff I can afford. I have $120 BPS extreme combos and I have $450 loomis/quantum tour combos. I don't care what set up people are using or how much it costs. The only thing that bugs me is when people are like "Your wasting your money" and "That $200 dollar rod doesn't work any better than my $50 rod." Nobody should have to defend or rationalizes their equipment purchases to anybody else, it doesn't matter if it cost $20 or $600. The important thing is what it is worth to you.
  2. What fine retail establishment would you take your business to instead?
  3. 5" senkos in green pumpkin 3/8 oz white spinnerbait 3/8 oz black/blue jig rapala skitterpop in frog color 1/2 oz rattletrap in blue/chrome
  4. I picked soft plastics because you can never go wrong with them. When it gets really hot, I like to fish 10-12" worms really slowly around grass and other cover.
  5. clear water: green pumpkin stained water: black w/ red, black n' blue muddy/dark water: black n' blue
  6. I like gamakatzu octopus hooks, circle hooks also work well
  7. The only good thing that about cheap gear is that when you get the good stuff, you appreciate it more. I personally believe that you get what you pay for.
  8. I zoom trick worm in green pumpkin
  9. I thought that BPS were great rods until I got a loomis. Sensitivity wise their is no comparison, even with the high end BPS stuff. That being said, for the price (especially if you get it on sale) BPS do have pretty decent rods. If you don't mind spending the dough though, I would definately go for the loomis or St. croix.
  10. Yea, when I wanted to buy mine I couldn't find much info on the forums, though it does seem like a lot of people are hating on Quantum stuff. I have the tour edition in 7.0:1 and I absolutely love it. The thing casts a mile and its extremely smooth. muskyxl is right, you can find em super cheap on ebay. They aregreat reels, anyone who doesn't like theirs can PM me and I'd be more than happy to take it off their hands .
  11. I don't fish live bait but I will try to slow it down with some soft plastics. I tend to really fish fast so that might be part of the problem.
  12. So there is this small, 300 acre lake near me (I'll leave out the name) that I absolutely cannot buy a bite on. I have fished this lake time after time and I rarely catch bass in it. It has a reputation for large fish that are tough to catch. I have fished and caught tons of bass on many different lakes but I have never had problems like I do at this place. The lake is shallow (it gets to 30ft at the dam but the vast majority of the lake is under 10ft) and filled with grass. The water is usually stained to muddy. There is not a lot of visible cover. I have tried all the typical presentations that usually work in grass (ripping lipless cranks, flipping/pitching, spinnerbaits along edges) and I am running out of options. Any suggestions?
  13. X2! I actually mentioned it earlier. Seems we are in the minority there! X3 Pop-R's are my favorite popper, the are awesome I also thought I'd mention the Lucky Craft Sammy, expensive but worth it IMO
  14. I was looking at the Shimano Scorpion 1000. I was considering purchasing a Curado but then I saw then I saw the scorpion and it has caused me to reconsider. Anyone own or ever use a Scorpion? Which would you go with?
  15. IMO the money minnow looks alot better than the bass magic but I haven't tried any yet. I haven't been too impressed with bass magic, I don't think they have that good of an action.
  16. I usually kill one or two a year. If they are bleeding from the gills and I think they are going to die I'll keep them. There is no sense in them dying for nothing. I used to accidentally kill a lot more bass then I do now. Don't get discouraged, with experience you will learn how to handle the bass better and it will happen less.
  17. I'm a zoom fan. They have great plastics, I really do wish they made a senko-type product though...
  18. I use a Trilene knot on line under 10lbs, anything above 10lbs I use palomar
  19. In clear water I fish lighter line (fluoro) and smaller baits. I like to use jerkbaits and senkos mostly. Stick with natural colors (watermelon, green pumpkin ect.)
  20. I have a Quantum Tour Edition PT and I love it. Everyone does seem to love their shimanos though...
  21. I agree. You cant assume that he is personally responsible for selecting who is on his show. I am sure that he gets plenty of challenges and that he is not personally going through them one by one. That being said, whoever it was that turned down Cast for Kids is definately a major %#$.
  22. I pretty much agree with everyone else. The live pointer is a piece of crap. The standard Pointer on the other hand is probably the best jerkbait on the market IMO. My favorite colors are ghost minnow, misty shad, and american shad.
  23. All my worm hooks are gama and my trebles are mustad, don't know why, thats just how I roll.

The book is awesome, it is the perfect intro to jig fishing.
