  1. If you're going to play rough with your gear, you should invest in a complete set of these...
  2. I'm far more likely to drop that money on 5 of these... http://www.***.com/River2Sea_Larry_Dahlberg_Diver_Frog/descpage-R2SLDF.html
  3. BPS has restructured their lineup of rods and reels, eliminating or redisigning what wasn't selling well. It's entirely possible that Rick Clunn's rods and reels didn't make the cut.
  4. x2 The ideal dropshot rod will not be an ideal shaky head rod, and vice-versa. Almost like wanting a crankbait/soft plastics rod.
  5. Its just another AbuPfleuger Lewcia Pro reel to me. The new owner of Lews was a buyer and product developer for BPS for almost 30 years. There are bound to be similarities in appearance, function, and design. Heck, they're probably being manufactured by the same folks that have been building BPS rods/reels for years. http://www.lews.com/lews-today.htm
  6. Hmmm.... One of these for $300... or two of these for the same price... I know which way I'd go.
  7. Especially if you pair it with one of those yellow Skeet Reese rods. ;D
  8. Here's Alton Jones tying the same knot...
  9. You could save yourself some time (and possibly a few bucks) by picking up a Berkley horizontal rod rack from Walmart and mounting the pieces to a scrap of plywood.
  10. I hit my local BPS twice this week to handle the Veritas spinning rods, but they just don't do it for me. I wanted to like them, I really did, but the fit/finish wasn't all that great and the grip material felt cheap. As much as I hate to say it (and you have no idea how much it pains me to admit this), the Carbonlite actually felt better in my hands. :-[
  11. The Veritas is white, not silver.
  12. If BPS has a location in your state, you're going to have to pay sales tax. Don't like it? Move to a state with no sales tax or order from another retailer.
  13. Mwaaahhhaaahhhaaaa. ;D ;D ;D ;D ;D d**n right. ;D I was working as a delivery driver last summer and my partner was a black man about my age (36) with six kids. I got to witness a "discussion" between him and one of his oldest boys regarding sagging pants that was very similar to the "discussion" in the video. ;D
  14. I doubt it? I didnt get one either.. Back when those reels were $269, they came with an extra spool. It was most likely eliminated when they dropped the price to $129. You can go back to BPS and ask for it, but I seriously doubt they'll give you one. I'd be surprised if they even had any left.
  15. I don't doubt that, and I'm sure they're excellent...but it's definitely a step down in materials used in their construction. But we're not talking about a replacement for the Elite, are we? This is the next generation of the Signature Series, which retailed for $170. So, we only have a $30 difference in price. Don't get me wrong, a JM Sig blank at that price is a heck of a deal (and it'll be even better when they go on sale for ~$119), but BPS is defintely cutting material costs to get the price that low.
  16. To a professional fisherman, they're just tools. How gentle are you when you put your screwdrivers or wrenches back in the toolbox?
  17. Personally, I'd pass on the Ardents. The ones on display at my local BPS (the C400, XS600, XS1000, and F-500) all feel like they're going to fall apart in your hands. Of all of the baitcast reels on display in that location, these four have shown the worst durability.
  18. The JM Elite Series has apparently been discontinued entirely, but it had a split cork grip and Recoil guides. Their JM Signature Series rods used to come with a full cork grip and Fuji titanium-framed SiC guides. They're now the Signature Series II, and are built with a foam/rubber split grip and stainless/Alconite guides. Where's the "upgrade"?
  19. They tweaked and relabeled their existing reels, and redesigned their Johnny Morris rods with cheaper components and called them "upgraded". :
  20. It probably had something to do with the ever-increasing popularity of light-weight rods and reels. The Nitro series rods and reels were both considerably heavier than many other rods and reels in their price range(s).
  21. I'd say Orra, Carbon Lite, or PQ. The others have graphite frames, which is a deal breaker for me.
  22. I use yellow for freshwater, with a fluoro leader. The fish don't seem to mind the color and it's easier for me to see.
  23. If that's the case, it seems to me that the bike actually belongs to the insurance company, not the previous owner.
  24. x2 Do you guys think Q-tips dipped in Comet will get that twang out of my ears or will I have to resort to something a bit stronger?
