  1. I'm a fan of the Avid, but the price keeps climbing (like everything else) to the point where it has become difficult to decide between one Avid or two $100 rods like the Veritas. Especially when it comes to moving baits, like spinnerbaits and cranks.
  2. I don't see why not. The price in the catalog is the same as their sale price, so they're not really losing money. Last time I was in the store (about two weeks ago), they were still marked $129.99
  3. I'd be willing to bet that was a typo. They've been $129, I believe, for the past couple years now and $99.99 used to be their "sale price".
  4. Well, apparently they've already started... http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Pro-Qualifier-XPS-Trigger-Rods/product/98314/-1432342 The price has also increased to $140, which puts them in direct competition with the JM Sig. Ser. II.
  5. Upgrades are OK as far as better blanks and components, but if they go split-grip on these series, BPS has completely lost me as a customer. If they're smart, they will retain several full-grip rod series. I think we'll see a redesign of the Extreme and Pro Qualifier rods in the very near future. They've gone out of their way to reduce the price of their Johnny Morris rods, so the new JM Signature Series II is now only $10 more than the PQ. I prefer a full cork grip, but the fact that for only $10 more I can get a lighter rod with a better blank is hard to ignore.
  6. Far easier to buy one of these... http://www.***.com/Sebile_Flatt_Shad/descpage-SFS.html
  7. Hell no, my wife would kill me. ;D
  8. I'll choose a reel with centrifugal brakes over magnetic any day of the week, but the one and only Citica I owned (200E) was a dud right out of the box and the Revo S never impressed me enough to own one. It may not be the most popular reel, but I think I'd take a Pflueger Asaro over any of the reels mentioned so far.
  9. I finally had a chance to check out this link. I've actually done the swaging and wire drawing processes mentioned in the "How tungsten wire is produced", along with the straightening process which is used to make welding electrodes from the drawn wire.
  10. I used to roll form tungsten from sintered billets into sheet and plates, and it had to be heated to 1550*C or it would crack once the pressure was applied. It also had to be reheated after each pass thru the rollers or it would shatter from the stress. Really difficult stuff to work with.
  11. Really? How do you fall on your face getting out of this? It's just a normal chair.
  12. Flour tortillas will fit in a padded envelope and still allow him to roll/fold his lunch meat to his heart's content. You can also spread a big thick glob of peanut butter on them and wrap them around a banana.
  13. Many years ago when I was living in Huntsville, AL, there were several intersections with the lights mounted sideways. Red was on the left, and green on the right.
  14. I'll never own one at those prices. Kelley x3 They appear to have very similar specs to some of BPS higher-end offerings, but at a higher price. I'll pass, thanks.
  15. Good choice, I love mine. The darn thing feels like it was designed around my body.
  16. Not even close. We have several members here with similar amounts or more. If you actually use the stuff and/or compete in tournaments, it's far from excessive.
  17. You might want to try some of the hi-vis braids like yellow Power Pro or some of that bright orange Sufix braid. You'll get the advantage of a more visible line with the added sensitivity of braid. I use the yellow Power Pro with a fluoro leader on several spinning rigs and the fish don't seem to mind the color at all.
  18. True. Once the roads got covered with snow/ice, people started leaving their cars in the road and walking home. : It looks like a scene from The Walking Dead, with all the empty cars everywhere. ;D
  19. It's similar, but the tag end on the SDJ goes back thru the loop formed at the lure before going thru the loop at the other end, where the reverse clinch does not.
  20. I wish I could say that. I just spent an hour and a half shoveling my driveway so hopefully it won't turn into a skating rink as this stuff melts and refreezes.
  21. That'll be my next spinning reel purchase. I picked up one of the new Supreme XT's and haven't had a chance to try it out yet, but that Patriarch XT is really catching my eye.
  22. I appreciate it, but I usually just go with a particular worm that has worked for me on every body of water I've fished in the past few years. I buy at least one bag every time I hit BPS, which is fairly often.
  23. You know, I have never caught a single bass on a Senko-style bait. I have a ton of them, and have carted them all over the South to various lakes and ponds, but they just take up space in my box.
  24. Some of us are from the North. One of the reasons we left NH was to get away from that nasty white crap. >
  25. I've been using a 6'10" MH/MF Quantum Tour Edition "KVD Signature Series" spinnerbait rod (PTC6106FKV) for my lipless cranks, chatterbaits, and spinnerbaits and really like the action. It's labeled a MH/F, but it really falls somewhere between a fast and a med-fast. This particular rod is a few years old and has been discontinued, but they show up on Ebay every now and then for about $100, which is 1/2 of what they were originally.
