  1. I used a 9' 8wt fly rod for bass when I started, but I found that the newer (and shorter) bass-specific rods work a little better for me, my casting technique, and my local waters. I sold my longer 8wt and replaced it with a 7'10" 6wt Redington "Predator". It's fully capable of tossing the larger, more wind resistant flies, but it's lighter and more manageable in the areas where I typically fish. It's also a bit easier on my shoulder. Don't let the rod's rating fool you, it's much more stout than your typical 6wt. I keep two spools loaded with line, one has a 6wt Rio Grand, and the other an 8wt Cortland bass taper, and that rod handles both just fine. I prefer a slightly more moderate action in some cases, and over-lining with the 8wt gives me that option. I also prefer the 8wt line on windy days.
  2. That seller is a member here, and I believe that outfit may be listed in the "Flea Market" at this very moment...
  3. Yellow Power Pro with a leader for just about every technique.
  4. Generally, the one thing that makes me want to buy a new lure is having money in my pocket. I've found that I buy less tackle when I'm broke. ;D Notice I didn't say that I stopped buying tackle when I'm broke, I just buy less.
  5. x2 It's always funny to follow the posts from new members. They start off asking for advice about which reel they should buy for their first bass outfit, but within six months they're the ones telling newbies that they should buy a Shimano because they're the best. : Like every other forum, there's a small "inner circle" of users who actually know what they're talking about and the rest of the group just regurgitate what the "inner core" says as gospel. Anyone deviating from this pattern is labeled a troll. ;D Anyway, back to the OP's question. The new Pflueger Supreme XT has little rubber ridges in the spool and mine seems to be doing well with braid (no backing) so far. I would expect the Soron to do just as well.
  6. Yup. Saw them live at The Channel in Boston, roughly 20 years ago. Definitely a memorable experience.
  7. I'll pass. I had only a passing interest in a standard Certate for 2/3 that price, so this one is definitely not on my wish list.
  8. I have a very similar one tied on my SB rig right now. Mine's a short-arm version, though. Very productive on the local ponds where bluegill are the primary forage.
  9. John Wayne would kick your butt for listening to that hippy crap.
  10. College student, almost 37 ;D
  11. The scrap-hunters around here have been a real nuisance. They've been stealing the heavy grates that are supposed to cover the big drains on the highways and covering the holes with road signs or scrap wood. You have to be extremely careful pulling into the "breakdown" lanes on 85/285 in Atlanta. You may find yourself falling into a huge hole. ;D
  12. Their 2006 book "Bass Strategies" is only $.75 on Half.com right now. http://people.half.ebay.com/North-American-Fishing-Club_W0QQmZbooksQQcidZ1186557604
  13. I have no interest in sounding like a boat full of waterskiers, but I rarely go anywhere or do anything without music. This goes just about everywhere with me...
  14. I think my oldest reel might be about 3 years old...maybe. I don't keep fishing gear all that long. When I get bored with it, it's gone. ;D
  15. My local grocery store does the same thing with Cabela's catalogs.
  16. Unfortunately, the stuff on ebay just doesn't seem to move. The majority of tools like mine listed on ebay seem to close with no bids. That's why I was hoping to find a site kinda like this one with a bunch of A&P and sheetmetal mechanics. I've asked this question on a few different forums today and I've gotten some PMs about pics and prices, so maybe I can get rid of it piece by piece...so I can feed the baitmonkey. ;D When I started in the field back in '99, I had to roll through the door with a little over $2k in tools to meet the minimum requirements. I added to that substantially over the 5 years I worked there. It would be really nice to get even a small percentage of that back.
  17. There are lots of things like nutplate jigs, hi-lok ratchets, and hi-lok collar removers that are pretty much limited to aircraft repair.

  19. I vote "none of the above". Take a look at the Pro Qualifier Tournament: http://www.basspro.com/Bass-Pro-Shops-Pro-Qualifier-Tournament-Baitcast-Reel/product/10224165/-1673056 Same features as the Pro Qualifier, but it's 1 oz-1.5 oz lighter than any of the reels on your list, and sells for less than $80.
  20. I don't know... It's a heavy, unproven, $150 spinning reel from a company that (overall) gets mediocre reviews, at best. If you buy it and don't like it, you'd better hope the retailer will take it back. From what I've seen, resale on used Ardent products is not very good... It's your money, though.
  21. Kind of an odd request, I know, but does anybody here know of an aircraft repair forum with a classified section? I've been out of the industry for almost 6 years now (and don't see myself ever going back), so I'd like to get rid of some of my sheet metal tools.
  22. I've been pretty pleased with both Sufix Elite mono and PowerPro braid. I know there are some newer braids out that get pretty good reviews, but PP hasn't failed me yet. Plus, I can find it locally and it's available in an easy to see yellow. I have a few spools of Trilene 100% and BPS XPS fluoro that have been working fine for me as well, but I only use them for leader material now.
  23. I tried three times and got kicked off each time.
