FWIW, I ditched all of my Shimano spinning reels in favor of Pfluegers and have absolutely no regrets.

This might be a silly question, but why buy a rod if you don't like the grip material?

That's what happens when that nasty white crap falls from the sky and the water gets hard. Fisherman spend their time online reading through page after page of reviews, rethinking their entire arsenal of rods/reels, and every single lure in their tackle boxes. ;D

You have to buy the really, really cheap ones. I keep a small pill bottle full of them in my terminal tackle box.

All you need now is a cooler, and a shade umbrella ;D Nah, a John Deere cap and a proper mullet will keep your head/neck from getting burnt.

The funniest thing about all of the advertising in fishing shows is the one with the least (or most subtle) product endorsement is The Bass Pros. They sell pretty much everything you see on the show (including the boats), but it's never crammed down your throat like the others.

The sale has been going on for a while now, and they're disappearing quick. My local store sold out several days ago.

If you google "RCS machine cut handle" the very first link to come up (eastackle.com) shows lists them @ $150. I didn't realize that price was actually SGD (Singapore dollars). However, in USD their price is still $118. $318 is almost exactly what it would cost me for two of the new Pflueger Supreme XT at BPs, including tax. Having handle both side-by-side, the Certate is not any smoother and I believe the Supreme XT to be lighter as well. Being JDM doesn't automatically make it "better". As I said earlier, dollar for dollar, the Certate didn't feel like it was worth the money to me. But, if you own one and are happy with its price, performance, and weight, that's cool too.

I'll occasionally bring a spare spool with me if I'm traveling to another state to fish, but never on my local waters. With that said, I've never had to use one of my spare spools. FWIW, I tend to prefer reels with a fairly high line capacity and keep the spools full. It would take a pretty serious line problem to require a spool change.

I'm not 100% sure, but I believe Berkley's Power Shaky Worms may float as well. I typically have to round up pieces that wind up floating in the water after unhooking/releasing the fish.

That is illegal in the USA. Check out the Magnuson-Ross Act. As long as she can prove she had the oil changes done with an oil that meets Toyota specs, they can not deny the warranty. Unless she signed up for one of those "Free tires for life" things that some dealers offer. Many require that all service be done at the dealership in order to qualify.

So, how are you liking that MMLE? I've been using a Snoopy for a few years now and have been thinking about stepping up to the MMLE next season, or maybe even a JDM Pokemon setup...if I can save up another $5. I'm still waiting on TackleTour to do a high-end bobber shootout.

I think it's a tie between him and Bill Dance. At least Roland Martin is out fishing public water and catching average size fish, unlike Mr. Dance.

I swung by my local DSG to see if there were any of the Revo/Allstar combos left, figuring I could keep the reel and give the rod away, but no such luck. No big surprise, though. Everything was really picked over, with the vast majority of the 50% off stuff already gone. There were still some good deals to be found, but I was really only interested in the super-cheap stuff. ;D I did manage to pick up a little bit of unnecessary crap, though. Spent a whopping $35 on this stuff... Not too sure about the Renosky spinnerbaits, but they were $2 and they come with an extra skirt. To me, they're worth the price just for the blades and skirts.

Our snow/ice is gone and we'll probably be cutting our grass in another month or so.

Use braid and it's not a problem. I keep a 6'6" M/F St. Croix Triumph spinning rod in the back of my car/truck at all times. Good score.

The only advice I can give that hasn't already been stated is this: Be prepared to feel violated when you get your first check. What you think you made, and what you actually made are often two very different things. ;D

Ya know, that's another bait that I've just never had any luck with. The LM around here just don't seem to be interested in them at all. Perhaps it's more of a SM bait?

The only semi-diffucult parts to install are the roll pin for the trigger guard and the pin for the bolt catch. Everything else just drops right in without mods. If you have the proper tools, even thos two pins are a piece of cake. I have a tool that makes installing the trigger guard roll pin a piece of cake, and will keep you from beating on the rifle with a hammer and snapping off one of the "ears". It's a motorcycle chain-breaker with a custom made pin to recess the roll pin. Doesn't leave a mark on the lower, flare the roll pin, or require a hammer.

x2 Out of all the rods I've ever owned (spinning, casting, and fly), I've only broken two. Both broke within weeks of purchasing them due to defects in the rods. A lifetime warranty is something to consider if you're comparing rod A to rod B, and they both have similar specs and prices. Otherwise, I wouldn't worry about it.

It used to be about $100 cheaper to build a gun yourself due to federal excise tax on firearms. With the cost of parts kits dropping over the past few years, you can save even more. Man, I couldn't even tell you how many different brands I use. Just off the top of my head... Gambler Big Bite Charmer Berkley Strike King GYCB/Kinami Luck E Strike Northland Zoom Netbait BPS Lake Fork I'm sure there are several more, but I'm drawing a blank at the moment. I use what appeals to me, regardless of the brand...with a couple exceptions. I no longer buy Yum products because I haven't been satisfied with any of their stuff, and I feel the same way about most Zoom products with the exception of the Trick Worm, Brush Hog, and Fluke.

They did change the warranty from lifetime to 1 year, but they also dropped the price from $100 to $80. If you look around you can still find some of the older Energy rods on clearance. I know the Atlanta BPS has been clearing them out for about $45.
