  1. Ha, get used to it, lol. Unlike friends or acquaintances, family, especially kids, once they know your buttons, can push them and turn the nicest guy into a curmudgeon.??
  2. Wow. Very interesting. Pardon the metaphor, but it might be cheaper (but not as clean) to “go jump in a lake.” Might be about the same temperature, lol. Kidding aside, I think it has benefits worth pursuing. I think I’m going to jump into Lake Washington to find out. ??
  3. See if any of your outlets have GFIs (GFCIs). Many homes have them and they’ll trip before the breakers at the box. This probably the culprit. If you don’t know what they are or look like, check this quick video out. They will cut off power to any outlet on its circuit so there might be a little trial and error in find which gfci is associated with the outlet in your house that currently doesn’t have power.
  4. I always thought that too about garlic, anise and just about every other scent/flavor out there. Then I thought if I am traveling in some foreign country and start smelling the aroma of food wafting through the air, even though I am not familiar with that cuisine, I still might find it pleasant enough and curious enough about it to check it out (hence the attraction). Or you see food you’ve never ever seen let alone taste, and gosh darnet, it looks good and it catches not only your attention but something about seeing it attracted you toward it with the intent to at least try it. Admittedly, there are probably better analogies out there but pondering this many winters ago, I derived this analogy and conclusion. The fish likely do not have to know it to go after it. If what is presented as a potential meal, they’re in, lol.
  5. I have a buddy who I play golf with about once a month. Oh boy, and we did go to a hooters once. I’m in my 50s. Uh oh… ?
  6. I would say it’s the strength of the line and not the line’s thickness as a best guess. My reasoning is that a typical braid of 20# test has a mono equivalent diameter of about 6#, and that’s pretty thin. Mono at 20# strength is going to be much thicker by nature of the line’s properties. Let’s say a rod has a line rating of 12-25#. The rod should in theory handle both the 20# braid and 20# mono quite well and diameter imho does not appear to be a factor.
  7. So you don’t have to replace it so often when changing lures. If you have a 2’ leader and change the lure or have to retie, one, your leader is now shorter and you might have to make a new leader. If you you a 20’ leader, you can replace lures multiple times. This is my reasoning for using a much longer leader. It’s just a matter of practicality. I don’t use leader often, but when I do, I also make them long. I will admit there is one small downside. If the rod has tiny guides, the joining knot can get caught on a guide and affect the cast. Nothing is perfect, lol.
  8. Wow, I find that surprising given how many posts I’ve read about how good sniper is. That suggests to me that when we buy line we risk buying a bad batch. ?
  9. Two places. At the knot. I happened 2-3 times. First time, I chalked it up to being too quick and careless making the knot. Second time I carefully and patiently tied the knot (improved clinch) and it broke at the knot. Tried the palomar, same result. now I’m really beginning to question the line. So I took a small piece of line maybe 18” long with a hand on each end just pulled it. No knot. On the pull the line broke as easily as a single strand of sewing thread. I am just sharing my experience with it, I am not bad mouthing vanish or “poof!!!” It is clear that I had a bad batch and with that said, I am not willing to risk the loss of a fish of a lifetime where the line breaks with my PB on the end of the line and then the fish goes, “poof!!!” That’s why I call it poof. It along the longs fool me once shame of the line, fool me twice, shame on me. I forgot to mention it was 8# line.
  10. Very respectable, and this is coming from a Seahawk, lol. SF owned us this year. ?
  11. You are one lucky guy!!! Regrettably, my experience with “poof!!!” (What I call vanish) has not been as good as yours. I too would err on the stiffer side for fc as a leader. I’ve used invizx up 6-8# and it’s pretty limp relative other fcs, and because of this I would say for the tests I’ve used I use it as a straight up main line and no leader. Also, I’ve discovered from experience when I throw small cranks and other treble hook lures, that limp was can and will get caught up on the trebles. This can be irsksome and worse compromise the line. Hopefully those who have used invizx in higher strengths can let us know the it gets stiffer or remains limp.
  12. Welcome and greetings from the pacific nw!
  13. Catcher was one of my favorite positions. I remember one of my glory plays. Left handed batter. Bases loaded. Two outs. We’re up by one. Batter pulls a surprise bunt and takes off. The bunt does not immediately hit the ground but is flying in the air somewhere higher than a line drive but but not as much of an arc as a fly ball. My eyes tracked the ball and I leapt forward like a frog with my mitt fully extended. I caught the ball but my forward momentum landed me in a position where my entire body was covering my glove hand. I basically performed kind of belly flop and it kind of knocked the wind out of me so yeah, it hurt. The ump was moving side to side trying to make the call, and the crowd was silent. They wanted to know. With a bit of pain, I roll over and show the umpire my glove. The ball was in its pocket. Let me tell you, that was the best and most exciting, “He’s outta there!” calls I have ever heard and he did put a lot of body gestures in that call. I still clearly remember it to this day and the crowd went nuts. I think he was more excited making that call than I was catching the bunt. This and many other memories is why baseball will always have a special place in my heart, even if the Seattle Mariners SUCK!!! Sorry, have a little love/hate relationship with them. ? Sorry for the long story. Please keep us posted on your son’s progress. This is so cool.
  14. That is awesome. Baseball has a special place in my heart as it was the first team sport I ever played. I played every position except first base, lol. If his arm might prevent him from being a pitcher, at least on the bright side, there are 8 other positions. ?
  15. Very nice and impressive stables! My stable is humble, in order of acquisition: Curado 201BSF 2500 Symetre Cardiff 301A Curado 201D HEG Curado 101D With the exception of the 101D, my reels need to handle bass and salmon so hence, the 200 size. I will use the 101D against salmon in a pinch, that’s not the issue, but if I get the line snagged in rocks or submerged wood from a good distance from me twice and I have to break off, the reel due to low line, is no longer worth using. Of course I bring extra line but re-spooling in the field and worse in cold weather is not fun.
  16. Me either! But tongue wasn’t bad but it’s a mental block. Heart, liver, stomach, intestines are a no go for me. If that is all that’s left to eat at the end of the world, I guess I’m going to die from starvation, lol.
  17. Wow. 74,000 is a huge number. Since it’s still winter, here are two “interesting” things about 74,000. It’s square root is approximately 272.0294. It’s cube root is approximately 41.98. ???
  18. For canned fish, as a kid I only knew and ate tuna and loved it. Then a high school buddy showed sardines. Yum yum yum. I tried herring a few years ago and it too was good.
  19. Sure looks like tongue, lol. But I’d have to say that sure looks like wagyu in the shape of a long tongue like Gene Simmons. I tried lengua, which means tongue, by mistake and honestly it tasted just like beef (as it was a cow tongue) but very soft much, akin to the texture of a filet mignon. This was way back in my early years in marriage when my wife from Mexico had me try things and my Spanish knowledge was nil. Ciego (rhymes with Diego) means blind but if you meant cesos, dang! My wife had me try it and never again, even if it tasted like tender beef. It’s a mental block, lol. Cesos (sometimes I see it spelled sesos) is brains! From that day on, I looked up anything she tried to have me eat that I didn’t know. The funny thing is she didn’t eat either that time and doesn’t eat either. Never again a Guinea pig, lol!
  20. Ha!! That’s what my tri tip is doing right now, lol. I’m going to smoke it (never done that to a tri tip before since they cook pretty quickly) for a bit. Prime Rib and Brisket and my top favorites. But in the poll I chose rib eye. When you’re starving, it gets hard waiting on prime rib or brisket ?
  21. Wow that is nice! So did you hear any whispering voices saying things like, “Buy me… You know you want too — I’m yours,” lol.
  22. Indeed, and we Seahawks know what how a best defensive team stacks up against a best offensive team in a Super Bowl, lol. ?
  23. Same here with the “mom used to put it on me as a kid.” the smell can be really strong and as a kid I hated the smell but not so much that it was a bad odor, but because if it’s on me and I’m smelling it, it meant that I was sick and couldn’t play outside. Sometimes it cleared my congestion and sometime it didn’t.
  24. The NYT crosswords are insane. I like crosswords but don’t go out of my way to do them. I’m not that good at them but many of the puzzles I’ve done seem to have this as a 3-letter filler: DOWN 3. Roaring 20s Answer: Era ? I prefer sudoku since we deal with numbers yet no mathematical computations — or better yet, chess ♟?
  25. Obviously, The Magnificent Seven, and I also love The Seven Samurai. ?? If not these then The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly. Distant third, the first young guns, lol. They be in the spirit world, lol.
